💬 General Need help!

I am trying to help a friend sell her sports cards.

Mostly baseball but there is some football as well.

There are at least 20 binders at least 500 cards each.

Just not sure where to go from here. I’m a huge sports fan and know names but card types I have no clue.

We are using CollX to see what some are worth, but I also found a Hank Aaron card that says 6/10x certified autographed in (apparently) blue sharpie and had a game used item in the card I think a part of his bat. It is also very thick.

Anyways just need some advice on how to help our friend out.

Do you have a general sense of the era(s)? Is it predominantly 50/60s given the Aaron card, or is it mostly 80s and 90s. That one answer will in my mind drive a ton of the direction

That Hank Aaron card is the one you need to focus on first, a low numbered auto with a relic from a legend is a whole different ballgame compared to base cards in binders. I'd pull that out immediately and get it in a one touch or at least a penny sleeve and top loader, the thickness means it's been in a binder page which is not great for its long term condition.

For the rest of the collection you're probably looking at a lot of commons from the junk wax era if it's mostly binders but there could be some gems mixed in. Don't just scan everything with an app and take the price at face value, those can be wildly off for anything that's not a raw base card. My advice is to look up the Aaron card on 130point to see actual sold listings and then maybe take the whole lot to a local card shop, not to sell right away but just to get a second set of eyes on what's actually valuable.

We’ve only went through one binder so far and are not selling anything. Just getting an idea of that shit pile in front of us.

There are 50s involved but as far as I have seen it’s mostly 60s going forward

I’d pull the Hank card out as its own beast and then separate the rest into pre 1980 and post 1980. Mostly post 1980 is going to be worthless with exceptions of course. Junk wax era didn’t actually start that early but the majority of the 80/90s cards are likely to be worthless or worth very little.

Anything pre 1980 you’re in business. A big part will ultimately come down to how much work you’re willing to do with cataloguing, values, listing, etc. it can get pretty brutal tbh but could be highly worth it given the years you’re referring to

So that particular card is from 2012 so I assume that value is not as big, but I’m starting to get a sense that a big name with a newer year is less value

Hm yeah I’m not entirely sure on what to make of the Hank one. But if you post a handful of pics of the older looking cards in the binders the group here can likely give some initial takes.

Do not engage your DM messagers. The scum bags will be messaging you to steal your collection.

Is this the Hank Aaron card?

Here are 2 actual sold prices. Pictures of the binders would help others determine value. Nice find and good luck!

Edit: these 2 sold comps have higher serial numbers, so an out of 10 should be valued higher than these 2.

Don't see any sold prices for that card but would think prices would be comparable to what I shared?
