NEW KITTEN AND 6 YEAR OLD
How long did it take for your cat to like the new kitten?

I got lucky I think. Willow is 6 years female and a rescue. Iโve had her 4.5 years now. River was 3 months when I got him this summer. He is now 6 months. Willow hissed at him 3 days straight and I was thinking I made a mistake. But since then, sweet pair. Both are gentle friendly cats.

I adopted a tortie kitten and her orange brother to keep a seven year old tortie company when the people were out of the house(and because I wanted more cats, just to be honest). She adopted much faster than I expected to the tortie kitten, like the first time tortie 2.0 escaped quarantine. It's been four years, and she's still protesting the orange boy, but mostly in a hiss and run away kinda way. (All inside cats, so they can only get so far away from each other.)There haven't been any real fights or concerns that we'd have to choose one or the other

Never. With some exceptions:
If there is another cat, they are allied against their mutual enemy.
If there is a moth they are both on team Catch Moth.
If it is very cold they will sleep curled up next to each other but back to back.
If they are in the garden they are happy enough outdoors to coexist peacefully.
If the little one is really scared, the big one will drag her into a cat cave and sit on her. It has only happened once but it was heartwarming and marked the moment they went from utter animosity to fractious peace.
Thry may never be friends, but that doesn't mean they aren't good for each other and enriching each others lives. Also the shenanigans eventually cool off enough to be mild and entertaining.
