for context, I broke my knee on September 24th and went to the ER that night. I tried working until the 27th, but either had to call off, or go home early because of troubles with my leg. The 28th, my manager called and suggested I take off through a leave of absence so I wouldnāt lose my job. I called Sedgwick, and the person I spoke to was not informative of the process at all. At this point, I had only spoken to the ER doctor who was unable to give me information about if I could still work or how long healing would take, so when talking to the representative, I told her I thought I would need 6-8 weeks off. She settled on 8, and then that was pretty much it. I didnāt know it would put me on an unpaid leave literally the next day, though I guess I should have figured.
From the time of the injury, it took me until Oct 2nd to get in with an Ortho due to insurance complications, and after calling Sedgwick back following the initial call, they said I would need to give paperwork to the doctor to fill out, and I also needed to apply for paid leave in my state. I asked the doctor if he would do the forms, and he said yes, so after I went home, I tried emailing them to the office. Turns out the email they gave me didnāt work, so the next day I went to the library and printed them out, and took them to the office.
The secretary told me that for the paperwork to be completed, I had to fill out a consent form to give them, then after ā1-2ā business days, I would receive an email to pay a $25 fee to have them completed. I received the email to pay on the 10th, and did immediately, then they said it would take another ā1-2ā business days to send them over to the doctor. Another 5 days passed before it was processed. I called back, and they told me that they had been waiting for my follow up on the 15th, which they hadnāt mentioned before. I called Sedgwick and asked for an extension, and they said I would have to wait until the 20th to see if they could.
So today, the 20th, I called again because my window through Sedgwick expired yesterday, and they said they had still not gotten the forms from the doctor. I call back the place about it, and they tell me they just sent them to the doctor yesterday and were waiting for a response so they could finish everything. I asked Sedgwick again this morning about an extension on the deadline, and now I have to wait 1-2 days to see if they even approve that. Called the doctor and sent a message asking if they could PLEASE do the papers today. Literally the only thing Iāve been waiting on.
I am so beyond stressed about my ability to pay my rent in 11 days. I had no idea how frustrating this entire process would be. I thought I would just be able to take the required documents to the doctor, ask him to fill it out, and that would be it - not all this other stuff. And who knows if theyāll approve it, god, I hope they do. The Ortho said I should be off work for 2 months, and my knee would take 3-4 months to fully heal, and that I should do PT 2-3 days a week.
Sorry for the lengthy and boring post, I just needed to get this off my chest because I am wildly stressed and trying to be patient and hope for the best. Itās been almost a month since I broke it, and everything about this has just been so difficult. I couldāve had this taken care of in a timely manner had I just been able to see the doctor right away.
Maybe Iām being dramatic, but dude. What if I lose my apartment because of this? Ugh. Thanks for listening.
