Change your password, and possibly the password of the linked email too

^ this is the way. If you reuse the password anywhere else, change that too. Chances are your password got leaked and sold (you can check online to see if its shown up in any data breaches). 2FA definitely saved your ass here.

do you know any other site to check if my shit is out there or should i use haveibeenpawned?

2FA also saved the hacker's house from getting nuked by SteamSupport special unit

Im doing that asap, im kinda stressed about it

16

u/Groandad Jun 01 '26

Dont be too stressed about it, looks like steam guards done its job and prevented the login, stuff like this can happen, but itll be alright

If you’ve downloaded anything unusual recently, I’d recommend running an antivirus scan just to be on the safe side. But generally speaking, you should be safe now.

There were a few large data breaches towards the end of 2025 / early 2026, you should really update all your important passwords, and switch to strong passphrases rather than passwords.

u/yourmomsanelderberry Jun 01 '26

Ive had this happened on a few platforms following some leaks a while back so dont stress its probably not even your fault. You are going to want to change your steam and email passwords and going forward if you dont already always try your best to keep passwords for diffrent cites diffrent. password managers help alot for this

3

u/Mozhakar Jun 02 '26

The most important thing is never use the password for your email anywhere else. You only use that for the email

8

u/Solo_Gunhea Jun 01 '26

This is why Steam guard exists so don't stress and just reset your password for email and steam and then it should stop.

Make sure you don't click links from random people on any platform or give out literally any personal info.

Being friendly isn't worth the risk

You should change your Steam and email password then make the 2FA to your phone.

1

u/seeeyog Jun 01 '26

First, change the password for steam and your linked email.

Try to think what caused this, most likely it was a cookie/session hijack from your PC. I suggest reset all the passwords which are logged in your browser which was compromised.

Run an antivirus scan, can use Malwarebytes. Keep an eye on tour accounts for unusual activity.

if their cookie was stolen, they would have bypassed steam guard, at least, that's what I've seen

1

u/Soggy_Struggle_963 Jun 02 '26

This is correct, they resume your active session which is already logged in.

1

u/Infamous_Treacle_409 Jun 02 '26

yeah that's what happened to my discord and steam but I got them back and just moved to linux as I was already thinking Abt it

1

u/seeeyog Jun 02 '26

You're correct, but the account's password is surely compromised, they should atleast change it for those who has the same pass.

1

u/Infamous_Treacle_409 Jun 02 '26

yeah they should, just got a bit confused when you said steam guard triggers if someone logs in with your cookie, at least that's how I read it

1

u/seeeyog Jun 02 '26

That was my mistake, I have seen my friends accounts get compromised this way. But also cookie/session hijacks happening alot recently (my friends installing things they shouldn't) so just mentioned it, my bad.

1

u/Infamous_Treacle_409 Jun 02 '26

no worries, happened to me too and I don't even trust normal links sometimes

1

u/KPGNL Jun 02 '26

Chance your password... now!

1

u/Jaggerfrost Jun 02 '26

The 2FA is doing its job. Change your password to something with at least 20 characters. From a password manager

1

u/umbrawolfx Jun 02 '26

My son recently had his account hijacked too. It's now 2fa protected because he didn't have it before. Wonder if it's related.

1

u/Frazerr_bruh Jun 02 '26

If all else fails, get steam support to snipe them

Write the steam customer support...they are gonna get the shit out of him🤣

1

u/Badcapsuleer Jun 03 '26

Get a password manager, start using different passwords for every account. Make all new passwords as long as the interface allows and use the password manager to generate randomized passwords. Wherever possible turn on 2fa - looks like you have that for steam.

1

u/Dam1an_O Jun 03 '26

dw mate steam will assassinate them just let them know

1

u/GlitchPhoenix98 Jun 03 '26

Stop reusing passwords. Password managers are free

1

u/Top-Lab9125 Jun 03 '26

I’ve heard Steam will send a thermonuclear guided missile to the hacker’s house and recover your account in record time if you open a support ticket.

1

u/tigerthetabbyy Jun 04 '26

change password yada yada. report it to steam they kill the person you know the drill

1

u/Kaufko Jun 04 '26

Follow what others said and get yourself something like Aegis which doesnt need a linked email for 2fa :D

1

u/Inevitable_Serve1513 Jun 04 '26

Change ur passwords and contact steam support i think they gonna send a sniper to him

1

u/LeipaMies312 Jun 04 '26

Why are you making a reddit post asking for help...... Is this your first day on the internet? Simply make a support request and theyll nuke the perpetrators house for you.

0

u/ohhsnoop Jun 05 '26

"Let me create a post real quick on reddit instead taking actions on protecting my account "

u/Assistant-Unable Jun 01 '26

What do you want us to do?! Use your common sense and contact support/change password….

1

u/Nerevarius_420 Jun 02 '26

What do you want us to do?

Maybe not be snide, I guess that was asking a bit much.
