Day 36. I have been asked yesterday “what are you interests? You should Pursue them.” Jeez took me a second to really come up with any. Drinking really desensitized all my interests. What are yours?

My interests are reading a good book. I always loved reading since I was a teenager I should really read more now. I have always loved wrestling it’s a beautiful art form that I have always thought was very intriguing. The nba has always had me interested, I love watching a random game or two. Working out is also an amazing hobby that I love doing. Any suggestions for other interests that I can dabble in? Would love to try any and all!

I don't know that I learned about more interests since getting sober. I started looking into those while I was still drinking 🤣 I thought I could quit drinking if I just entertained my mind with a hobby. I was a runner for years. I can't be an alcoholic if I'm running half marathons, right?

My interests are pretty boring now. Reading, working out, documentaries.

I'm the type of person who makes plans to do nothing.

Congrats on your sobriety.

Boring is peaceful. Boring is respectable. Remember that.

36 days here too! I’m trying to figure out what I enjoy again too. I’m finally using my ps5 and getting back into my movies/shows.

Omg!! That is my next one to watch. I’m currently watching the new Carrie series on prime! It’s so good.

When I got sober again I honestly couldn't stand video games anymore, well if my daughter or nephews weren't there. Or sports for the most part. Reading, walking, museums, good movies especially older, went back to that. And trying to find new hobbies.

Great job on 36 days! That's awesome! I really enjoy being outside. I also read a lot of books. IWNDWYT 💜

I also love reading!! I’m rereading Watership Down right now, it’s one of my all time favorites. What are you reading, OP?

I had to dig into something to keep my mind occupied early in sobriety.

Got into 3D printing. It’s incredibly therapeutic, it’s helped make myself and family more organized in so many ways. I didn’t realized how many different areas of your life it can impact.

Just this week I printed:

• A new auto feeder for my chicken coop
• Fidget toys for my wife’s therapy practice
• Outlet box with lock so my kids stop unplugging WiFi switches

It’s a drug.

I'm right there with you on the 3D printing. I'm doing my first ever cosplay at 38. Always wanted to give it a try and now I have the patience to see it through.

I also find sanding to be very therapeutic and mindful.

I make things for my son, my wife, my in-laws. It's great!

I never got into anything to fill the void of drinking, but the things I found myself doing (anything that required leaving the house after I got home from work) I realized that I never would have done them if I wasn’t sober..

I’ve taken a few art classes - pottery, encaustics etc. that was fun

Also realizing that the hangovers from just hanging out and watching tv with a nice buzz wasn’t worth it.. not even a cool story to go along with it!

Congratulations on day 36! Sounds like you have the whole world open to you. For you, I recommend visiting hobbystack.net. They have a master list of nearly every hobby in existence.

For me, professional wrestling with AEW and GCW as my goto. AEW has a PPV tonight called WrestleDream which will be amazing and I plan to watch with friends.

Other hobbies I enjoy: Tabletop RPGs, Vinyl record collecting, Hifi music listening, playing music (guitar, piano, banjo, etc), video games solo or with friends, homelab it/cybersec, true crime podcasts, acrylic painting, electronics tinkering, meditation, reading. The list is probably even longer.

I’ve never heard of hobby stack before; seems right up my alley.Thanks. I also got into collecting vinyl.. I figured since I’m not going to be spending that much money on booze anymore I can afford to expand my collection..

I find it very therapeutic. I've been out this morning scattering seeds I've collected - cornflowers, Michaelmas daisies and everlasting geraniums. Hoping the birds will spare me at least some of them!

Reading, walking, lifting weights, cooking, organizing (I’m such a sucker for making things look pretty and work smoothly in my house), watching D&D, playing D&D, hosting movie gatherings with friends, exploring festivals and other unique spots. I’m also currently getting another degree slowly and possibly for no reason because I love learning

Watching movies. I feel like getting drunk all the time made me impatient. Dulled me down and so I always wanted a quick fix. I’d watch a show I’ve seen 100 times or doomscroll. The idea of sitting down and watching a 2.5 hour movie I’ve never seen before felt like seriously labor. But I feel like once the fog lifts, all of the sudden it’s so much easier to get invested. Drinking turned me into a fricking zombie man

I need a hobby but I don't have much money, don't feel like reading. So I've been depressed laying in bed. I used to accompy every single "fun" thing with drinking and now I can't. Nothing brings me joy the way alcohol did ( I still am joyful and happy) but it's okay I'm getting therapy Monday :)

Hopefully we can both find new interests

3D printing, playing board games, and creating audio stories for my son are 3 new hobbies that I got into since quitting drinking. I also found my love for video games and movies again.

Bought a book to read with my wife as well but we haven't started that yet. We'll get there.

u/Previous-Purchase-91 9h ago

Audio stories ? Wow that’s really cool! Any movies or videos games you recommend?

1

u/Nimblesquatch 573 days 9h ago

He loves Mario and there are no good stories out there so I decided to create, record, and mix them for him. The mixing process is a lot more fun then i would have ever thought.

u/Previous-Purchase-91 9h ago

Yes I’m sure your son would appreciate the audio stories you’re making for him.

Walking, puzzles, mahjong, sourdough baking, and researching 70s rock bands (rabbit hole style).

I also have 2 dogs that I did not have when I was drinking. They are an absolute delight and the center of my life.
