Hilariously that didn't disprove our point though. Elon took the credit instead of the engineers behind it. The company should've been named Edison instead of Tesla.

I mean, it's not even really a great feet of engineering. The car isn't drivable. It's an empty shell. A reinforced steel grid with a cheap car skin on top. It's not and never will be a product, it's just an investment scam

u/Emotional_Shower_938 4h ago

To be fair, its also a distraction from the doc that i believe comes out this weekend.

5

u/trangenderman 4h ago

I heard everything that's been happening for the past two years is

2

u/SilentDuck77 4h ago

Name of doc?

2

u/Dry-Interaction-1246 3h ago

Musk

1

u/Stonegrown12 2h ago

"It's illegal in nine countries... Yep, it's made with bits of real panther musk, so you know it's good."

2

u/DrDuGood 4h ago

Ohhhh - do tell!

7

u/BlazingPalm 4h ago

Documentary Elon trying to suppress

17

u/Alternative-Crew-880 4h ago

And that technology has been around for a while now. Darpa was prototyping gyroscopically balanced drones with thrusters decades ago with their MKV platform.

2

u/Wolodymyr2 2h ago

Aren't there was a video with missile warhead flying the same way for tests?

3

u/Vilzku39 2h ago

Technology itself is fairly common in missiles, however it is a steering element that required less percision and balance.

Technology showcases for it have existed before tho. This mainly just added car shell on top. Impressive engineering, but nothing particulary new.

2

u/Alternative-Crew-880 2h ago

Yeah thruster technology isn't exactly ground breaking. They were using that shit even in the 60's landing on planetary bodies, and modern ones we have now were invented in the 40's. They were experimenting and conceptualizing with Ion thrusters over a hundred years ago.

It’s a giant RC with air tanks. It’s wasn’t human operated and technical specs aren’t public, so things like weight are unknown.

The engineering aspect that is interesting is the air canisters. The claim is they’re self replenishing so my curiosity is how that’s achieved with enough power to support car acrobatics.

4

u/Burt_Macklin___ 4h ago

Self replenishing air compressors have existed for decades. Most workshops have them

2

u/The_Beardly 4h ago

Right. I’m specifically referring to the added layer of being able to move an allegedly full weight vehicle the way it did, rather than a striped down carbon fiber body. That takes an incredible amount of energy and heat that would need a solution for.

Also updoot for your username alone. Lemme know a good recipe for snake juice lol

2

u/gba_sg1 3h ago

I'd like to know the G-load on someone's neck during a roll. 10/10 would be corpses in the car after a snap roll.

2

u/Consistent-Set-9490 3h ago

Macklin, you son of a bitch

2

u/corruptedsyntax 4h ago

The “self-replenishing” part is actually a super impressive feat of engineering.

Using satellite telemetry the vehicle identifies a ground station. Then using local compute, the vehicle navigates to the ground station. Finally a robotic arm attaches an air-tight fluid pump to the vehicle to exchange propellant.

I mean, that is how it will work when Tesla definitely brings this to market. Right now they just have Pedro filling the CO2 canisters by-hand, but the rest is for sure on the way.

/s if it wasn’t obvious. This thing is just a large lightweight RC car with some compressed air canisters and microcontrollers. Even if the air canisters replenished on-board, that’s not new, that’s just an air compressor you can buy at Home Depot. Most impressive feat of engineering is getting the weight calibration right for balance, and drones solved that decades ago.

3

u/Burt_Macklin___ 4h ago

Self replenishing air compressors have existed for decades. I don't want to shit on the probably hard working engineers, but, film studios have been building way more impressive stuff for decades

4

u/The_Beardly 4h ago

Exactly.

The claim being they self replenish to do controlled landing and maneuvering of an allegedly full weight car is the interesting part- if it’s truthful.

It is in fact just a big RC car. Most people could do this at a smaller scale with purchases made on Amazon or at Home Depot.

2

u/corruptedsyntax 4h ago

They have, I’m just doubtful they even used them here since they’d have no need and it would have forced compromise between weight, noise, and efficiency. If they actually used a compressor on-board then it was probably just to technically tick a box so they aren’t technically lying about “self-replenishing” but I’d easily bet $50 they’re still swapping whole canisters in practice just because the output volume isn’t great.

1

u/The_Beardly 4h ago

You had me going as I was scrolling. Ngl lol

1

u/anarkistattack 2h ago

They are not self replenishing.

3

u/UnknownAverage 4h ago

I think I saw this same stunt at a monster truck show in the 80s.

2

u/MaddieZeitgest 4h ago

I was reading an article about how the majority of hype or ideas that Elon has are never executed. People invest in his companies because he has the strongest RDF out there. What exactly is a RDF? Reality Distortion Field. By the time people figure it out, he's on to the next scam.

1

u/_WeAreFucked_ 2h ago

Laughable!! Please tell us how it is not a great feat of engineering internet stranger…we don’t accept “trust me bro”.

-6

u/clarkam 4h ago

I’m sorry, what have you mass built/sold lately? Might not be a rocket ship (shit, he’s got those too), but it’s a prototype at least. Calm down.

3

u/Burt_Macklin___ 4h ago

Elon hasn't built or designed anything. He told the people he pays that he wants jets in a car. That's the extent of his involvement

3

u/Mexicutioner01 4h ago

He wants jets in a car. But they just gave him cans of compressed air instead and called it a day.

-1

u/clarkam 4h ago

Yeah, that’s how successful businesses work. Find the guy smarter than you…

2

u/Burt_Macklin___ 4h ago

I mean, at least we're admitting that Elon is nothing more than an investor

1

u/clarkam 4h ago

I’m sure he doesn’t mind what you call him, unless you guys hang out on the weekends.

3

u/MeringueProof9718 4h ago

Stop defending Elon Musk. Just stop.

-4

u/clarkam 4h ago

Defending, not at all. Don’t own a single product of his. But give credit where it’s due. Sorry you haven’t achieved much…

1

u/MeringueProof9718 4h ago

Oh I didn’t realize you knew me personally and were aware of my achievements (or lack there of according to you). How ya been, man? Ok if we’re giving credit where it’s due then look to the people that actually built and put this toy together. Musk didn’t do shit 😂

1

u/clarkam 4h ago

Been doing alright. Just trying to make it. I know you’re doing fine, you’ve probably achieved more than I gave you credit for. Just try and keep it real for everyone. Janitors to Trillionaires.

3

u/Cola102583 4h ago

Prototype for something that cannot be put into production, no human operator, regulatory agencies would take 20 yrs to exact some standardization and also its not practical for any road only hot wheels courses, i get ur point and ya it was neat spectacle, but thats all. But hey its working ppl r talking

15

u/Electrical_Ad115 5h ago

The only argument one needs is to point out his Edison complex, but at least Edison played a hand in SOME of whay he claimed fame for

11

u/C7rl_Al7_1337 4h ago

Bro has such an Edison complex that he bit Tesla's damn name.

8

u/The_Beardly 4h ago

Remember too that he calls himself a founder, when he is in fact not the founder of Tesla

•

u/TmanGvl 1h ago

Yup. He bought it with money. I see a pattern here.

•

u/justaguy394 1h ago

I hate the guy, but this is factually untrue. There was a court case about it... the original founders sued to get him to stop saying that, but they settled and the settlement agreement included him being able to say "co-founder". So yes, he's legally a co-founder now. The terms of agreement aren't public beyond that, but safe to assume the OG founders got something out of it. And honestly, he was employee #3... the first 2 being the OG founders. The company had no buildings, no funding, no products, no designs, nothing... just an idea of what they wanted to do, and they would not have survived without him pouring basically all his own money into it. It's not like he came in when the Model S was launched and claimed he founded it.

u/MBTheGinger 4h ago

Whenever people fail to account for the fact that billionaires like Elon hire people to research, design and produce their products, I’m like “oh, so you’re stupid too?”

1

u/corruptedsyntax 4h ago

Even that is too generous, as this isn’t even a product

This is literally just a more expensive flea circus

2

u/Nop277 3h ago

The product is a new version of the Tesla roadster. The entire gimmick here is sell the new roadster by presenting a bunch of "cool" features alongside it that will almost certainly never practically be in the finished product.

2

u/Dimerous_ 5h ago

Edison is a different company already and they do neat things. At least that’s what I gather from the one thing I’ve ever seen from them.

2

u/Sir_postalot 4h ago

Elon IS Edison. He even stole the Tesla name form under Nikola's nose.

2

u/MaleficentMunkey 4h ago

This comment should have more upvotes but people don’t understand historical facts enough

2

u/lavahot 4h ago

It's also a one-shot party trick. When am I ever going to need to deorbit my car?

2

u/Level_Bobcat_8729 3h ago

There's already an Edison motors out of Canada. Heavy duty vehicles, pro right to repair, they're doing really cool stuff.

2

u/ikannunAneeuQ 3h ago

He truly is the modern day Edison

2

u/NoSpankingAllowed 3h ago

And Musk has the brains of a shart.

2

u/TheKingsdread 2h ago

No, an "entrepeneur" stealing credit from Tesla; Nikola (impeccably dressed) is par for the course, Musk using his name like that fits.

1

u/anarkistattack 2h ago

It was called Tesla before Elon made himself the founder.

•

u/mrpumpkinickle 1h ago

To me it looks ai that video,

•

u/WilhelmScreams 30m ago

Elon has always been a participation trophy kinda guy

0

u/cookiemon32 4h ago

elon musks enitre personality/empire/ego was built by liberals

0

u/whatup-markassbuster 4h ago

Do you really think Elon Musk is unintelligent?

0

u/trangenderman 4h ago

Go build your own you bum

-1

u/Inf1z 4h ago

But the engineers without Elon would not come up with these sort of things. They have the knowledge but not always the vision. That’s what separates a leader from the rest.

3

u/Wide-Ad8135 4h ago

The engineers without Elon would probably come up with better ideas that actually function

0

u/Inf1z 4h ago

There are more engineers than there are CEOs. They are free to leave his company and build whatever they want. I wonder why this doesnt happen?

2

u/Wide-Ad8135 4h ago

🥾 👅

0

u/Inf1z 4h ago

lol okay bud.

2

u/Wide-Ad8135 4h ago

You mean fake PR stunts no engineers don’t do that kind of shit.. He is not some sort of genius visionary… if you had your daddy‘s billion dollars, and a team of slaves to do your bidding I’m sure you could come up with some pretty cool shit that maybe actually works

1

u/Inf1z 4h ago

How many billionaire’s kids are out there spending their daddies money to create companies like SpaceX or Tesla and try new things?

2

u/Ok_Drummer6282 4h ago

Tesla was around before Musk lol. They already had the vision
