Perhaps because President Ford was never hit.

But he was a target on two separate occasions by two women in September 1975, in California. The first was a Manson cult member, the second an FBI informant turned left-wing activist.

While social media debates often try to map historical presidential attackers onto modern Democratic or Republican frameworks, historians note that few of the attackers were mainstream partisans. Most were driven by anarchism, Confederate sympathies, severe mental illness, personal delusions, or delusions of grandeur rather than serving as agents of a recognized U.S. political party.
