What About Jerry Ford?

Perhaps because President Ford was never hit.

But he was a target on two separate occasions by two women in September 1975, in California. The first was a Manson cult member, the second an FBI informant turned left-wing activist.

I can see 3 people in this picture shot by Republicans. Wait 4. Maybe all if them except Lincoln.

Lincoln was shot by a conservative.

Big distinction to make IMO. Political parties changed ideology but liberal vs conservative is always the same ideals.

I never checked but I do know that old time democrats were the baddies before the parties flipped at some point.

Not all of them. In the past, political parties were more of a mixed bag than they are now. There were racists in all of them. During the civil rights era, the Republican party convinced the racist southern Democrats to switch sides.

Yeah real tired of the oversimplified"they switched on everything" narrative. Modern political dichotomies do not map cleanly onto the past. "The Rise and Fall of the White Republic" by Alexander Saxton is a great read on antebellum political dynamics in the US if anyone wants a better picture. The Democrats pre-civil war mostly pandered to a "white egalitarian" tendency that was proto-populist but still incredibly racist.

The argument should really be about Liberals vs Conservatives, because both Democrats and Republicans swapped ideologies over time.

Dixiecrats, not Democrats. Democrats back then are what the GOP are now. Dixiecrats are what MAGA are now.

Exactly. A Dixiecrat, not a Democrat.
