For people who believe the Flying Roadster is a fully-functioning car and not an RC toy
32
u/Turkeysocks 4h ago
Yeah, these kinds of BS theatrics only meant to bring the stock price up should be considered fraud.
21
u/Suspicious_Dingo_426 4h ago
It's the reason why he threw in with Trump. He was under investigation for this kind of BS, and he also wanted to continue doing it.
7
u/Not_Allowed_to_Die 4h ago
Same with Mark Zuckerberg. META was illegally selling cocaine, magic mushrooms, and marijuana. They still sell marijuana illegally, but the DEA was investigating META because they refused to remove these ads when reported on. META still does and refuses to remove them. Trump is the ONLY reason Mark isn't facing prison as a mob boss right now. That's why META is pushing Right wing and MAGA rhetoric, and banning and removing Left wing rhetoric. Mark is interfering in the midterms so Trump can remain in power because if the Dems take the Senate, they are going to fully investigate Mark directly.
0
u/Striking-Sundae- 3h ago
Dems are not going to do anything even if they win the house and Senate. What have you seen from them in the past that makes you think it would be anything other than business as usual?
4
u/Not_Allowed_to_Die 2h ago
Cry harder MAGA. They are going to get rid of Trump and Vance, and you are about to have a new Speaker of the House Dem POTUS... Have fun with that.
•
u/spoonstepper 41m ago
I wish I could disagree with this sentiment. Here’s hoping for Bern & The Squad to drag the Democan’ts into action.
•
u/Turkeysocks 14m ago
What we need now isn't relying on Bernie and the squad. It's replacing all those who don't have the spine to do what needs to be done in Congress.
4
u/slab_schitty 3h ago
I agree 100%. How is this not misleading and fraudulent?
Get this fucking criminal behind bars for the rest of his life. He is a traitor to humanity.

u/Dynamo_Ham 4h ago
Many years ago when greyhound racing was first introduced in the U.S., no one was interested. Why go see dogs when you could see horse racing? So in desperation promoters dressed small monkeys in jockey suits and strapped them to the backs of the dogs to make it seem more like horse-racing, and increase the novelty value. Obviously, this was good for neither dog nor monkey, and seriously diminished the quality of the competition to boot. Attendance increased dramatically, and the U.S. greyhound racing industry was born. The moral? We’re idiots who fall for this type of meaningless eye candy.
The jetpack roadster is a monkey on a greyhound.

u/HaiKarate 4h ago
I was dismayed at the number of people I saw on social media who were cheering this on as if it were real, and not asking questions.
8
2
u/KeepJoePantsOn 3h ago
My whole thing is like, even if it were real, what are the practical implications of that? Doesn't seem like something that's ever been needed in my daily driving routine.
3
u/Pale-While-9783 2h ago
Remember Dean Kamen's Segway PT and how it was "going to change the world?"
1
u/TheAgedProfessor 2h ago
I saw one article that claimed it was essential for "avoiding collisions". Like, eminent head-on approaching, the car can launch itself up and out of the path of the oncoming car. But it was a huge assumption that launching yourself up, with no idea if there was clear area for you to come back down, would be any better a situation then the one you're trying to avoid.
3
u/mishap1 2h ago
So would that be a feature of FSD? It spots an imminent crash and rather than tensioning the seatbelts and emergency braking the car, it just goes for the hail mary launch?
I'm picturing people playing chicken with these things now to see if they pop off. Even funnier if you go jousting with another Roadster. Airborne head on collisions.
•
u/TheAgedProfessor 1h ago
Yeah, I can't imagine the uproar if someone narrowly escapes a multi-car pile-up, only to be crushed by a stupid Tesla that launched into the air from the other side.
•
8
u/helmvoncanzis 4h ago
No one was paying $250,000 to see greyhounds with monkey jockeys, and that's where the comparison falls a part.
At the end of the day, TSLA has to make sales. Whatever rebound they have had has been driven by the more modest Model 3 and Model Y offerings.
The Roadster does nothing to move the needle and these stunts suggest TSLA has learned nothing from the failure of the Cybertruck.
6
u/Tommybahamas_leftnut 4h ago
literally the truck would have sold okay if they didn't make it look like a ps1 render of a SUV and didn't spend shitloads of time trying to make it "bullet proof" instead focusing on range, horsepower and overall utility.
3
u/roadkill4dinner 2h ago
So, if they'd made an entirely different vehicle, and called it something else?
(oh, and if Musk hadn't turned a huge part of the country, especially us "libtards" who buy EVs, against him and his company).
But, sure. Good point.
•
u/get_it_together1 48m ago
Still could have called it a cybertruck and made it somewhat funky, just not a giant steel box
7
u/RedSecOps 3h ago
They've also changed the terms of the agreement that people who have had the roadster ordered for like a decade now signed up for.
They've continually broken every promise and continue to under-deliver every new car. Why would any investor trust them?
2
u/OGLikeablefellow 2h ago
Doubt. That has pageantry and novelty. We've had flying drone car tacos for the wealthy that are better executed and are currently in service. This was a spectacle meant to capture idiots in the same vein of Elons earlier grift only now that's apparent. And the fire extinguishers making it hop are a step back technologically
46
u/human_i_suppose 4h ago
Any reasonable investor would be pissed at that demo.
Either he wasted a ton of money to do a cheap movie stunt, or he's planning to waste a metric fuck ton of money pursuing the dumbest idea possible.
26
u/HaiKarate 4h ago
I think that that demo cost him very little.
The car is a shell. It's an oversized RC car with a tiny motor and just enough battery to roll a short distance.
The windows were blacked out so that you couldn't see that all of the passenger space was filled with compressed air tanks.
6
u/Norush_fin 4h ago
It costs a lot of money to do all that R&D work for just one demo unit. It's a neat tech that takes a lot to develope and manufacture. They put it into the stupidest possible thing.........
2
6
u/mishap1 2h ago
The point wasn't b/c he thought it's cool or possible to make into a product. He wants a semi-plausible reason to merge with SpaceX which then pays out his entire $1T payday from Tesla, masks why he's failed to hit all his targets, retains massive voting power despite putting up none of his own money, and it means he's embedded in everyone's 401K or index fund for trillions of dollars.
From there, he can continue his infinite money schemes without any governance and just keep kicking the can until the ketamine finally takes him.
5
u/BusinessAsparagus115 3h ago
he's planning to waste a metric fuck ton of money pursuing the dumbest idea possible.
They already built the Cybertruck tho.
15
u/Not_Allowed_to_Die 4h ago
On top of all of this, it will NEVER be street legal. They are never going to allow people to jump over traffic and land on top of another car and kill everyone in it. MAGA are just stupid and think this is real.
7
u/slalmon 4h ago
Like I don't think even at ten years old I would think this was real in anyway.
I don't even understand why they even did this.
5
u/Not_Allowed_to_Die 4h ago
Desperation. This is Elon's chainsaw all over again. They think flash wins elections.
3
u/TheRealTRexUK 4h ago
"Like I don't think even at ten years old I would think this was real in anyway."
The tesla subreddit would argue with your 10 year old self. Tell you that you were wrong. They think it's real.
2
u/Slimeredit 4h ago
Not to mention the whole concept of flying cars is mired in logistical problems people are already often times driving poorly but throwing in navigation in the air is a whole different can of worms
8
u/slalmon 4h ago
I mean someone would die the first day, 100 percent haha.
4
u/Slimeredit 4h ago
It would be like how the cybertruck was poorly designed that if the battery blew up and started a fire you couldn’t break the windows to get out turning a vehicle into a metal coffin
5
u/BraxbroWasTaken 4h ago edited 4h ago
dude you’d probably have someone do a 9/11 in 9-11 minutes (if certain folks are to be believed; specific numbers picked for humorous effect rather than accuracy)
like. oh noooo we went to all this trouble to stop airplane hijackings after someone hijacked planes and turned them into kinetic missiles.
LET’S GIVE CONSUMERS THE ABILITY TO DRIVE SMALLER VERSIONS OF SAID KINETIC MISSILES
1
u/Not_Allowed_to_Die 4h ago
Easily. They would land on top of a car and kill an entire family within a few hours of it's release.
1
u/Tommybahamas_leftnut 4h ago
or blast the ground with so much air on landing it tears up a loose bit of road and sends it hurtling through the windshield of another car or into a pedestrian.
2
u/Icy_Fish_2154 4h ago
Ask Moller, the flying car is 10 years away from production, every year, for the last 60 years or so. Though he's recently bankrupt, so I think he stopped development and sold everything to someone else now.
1
u/Not_Allowed_to_Die 4h ago
The problem with flying cars is anyone that drives one has to have a pilot's license. That's the only safe way to have them, and these companies can't expect everyone to get one.
0
u/Icy_Fish_2154 4h ago
When the Jetsons type flying cars are common, pilots licenses won't be required.
1
u/Not_Allowed_to_Die 4h ago
No. You got that backwards. Then everyone will need a pilot's license, but it will be normal like needing a driver's license. I think that's what you meant though.
1
u/Icy_Fish_2154 3h ago
Then a pilots license will be unlike anything any sane person would call a pilot license (strict medical, multiple check rides, strict minimums on instruction times before being allowed to even test), and will be the same as a DL.
The flying cars will be 99.9% automated, so the license will be about liability, not skill.
1
u/Not_Allowed_to_Die 3h ago
You get that if we got flying cars, planes would no longer be needed?
1
u/Icy_Fish_2154 3h ago
No. I don't get that.
I can fly in a plane from LA to NY for less than the fuel in my car to drive that distance. A helicopter-like efficiency flying car would cost a whole lot more to operate than a ground car. So anyone travelling from LA to NY would use a plane, not their flying car. The plane is cheaper and faster.
Also, planes are the only sensible travel to Hawaii. A small error in a flying car, and "lost" means "dead".
If flying cars were here today, planes would be largely unaffected, and as flying cars gained in popularity some regional flights might die out, but long haul would be unaffected.
0
u/Not_Allowed_to_Die 3h ago
They can't have both. If flying cars become a thing, there is no way to control the air traffic without removing planes. I don't see how people don't get that.

u/Redgrave1980 4h ago
It will never be a thing, and the people hyped for it are absolutely empty headed. People can barely drive as it is, I can't imagine them doing this, not to mention the brainlets who try to show off and end up seriously hurting people.
4
u/Slimeredit 4h ago
Imagine someone drunk driving in a flying car the results would be terrible
5
u/Redgrave1980 4h ago
My thoughts exactly. Then there's the logistics of requiring a new endorsement on a license to legally be able to operate one if these.
3
u/Tommybahamas_leftnut 4h ago
there's also the major issue as stated above where even if magically the engineering for it to be battery efficient for long distance and also not take forever to refill the air tanks, it blasts air at the ground strong enough to hurtle debris below it in every direction. effectively creating shrapnel that can hit bystanders, damage property and infrastructure. There's also basically no point to it as it can correct a fall sure but in the situation that you are falling far enough in a car to need this to help you you have bigger problems like whatever might have caused you to run off the road ect.
1
u/timoumd 3h ago
But this isn't a flying car. No one is using compressed gas to fly
0
u/Slimeredit 2h ago
It still could cause mayhem if someone went behind the wheel under the influence the pressure required to lift a car into the air isn’t something to be treated lightly
1
u/timoumd 2h ago
I assumed it was either for acceleration or for crash avoidance?
0
u/Slimeredit 2h ago
I mean either way this will end up like Elon musks other promises it never comes to fruition remember when he said we’d have a man on mars years ago already or self driving cars he’s a hype man that pretends to be a genius inventor when in reality he’s a nepobaby that only get to where he is thanks to his parents blood money
8
u/Uhavetabekiddingme 4h ago
Have you ever met a Tesla fanatic? They think someday soon everyone is going to give up their cars so they can have the pleasure of taking a cybercab everywhere they need to go. So I'm not surprised they're buying this roadster hook line and sinker.
4
u/HaiKarate 3h ago
Yes, I also posted to r/TeslaLounge and the reaction I'm getting there is pretty much the opposite of what I'm getting here. 😂😂😂

3
u/CotR4692 4h ago
I have to imagine that even if some state were to pull a stunt to make it street legal (I think ron desantis said it would be ok in FL) no insurance company would insure the vehicle. How much of a risk this could and would be is insane
3
u/sambucuscanadensis 4h ago
To be fair, most maga have insufficient critical thinking skills to understand this.
3
u/ImpracticalJerker 4h ago
Has anyone who supports this actually thought about how fucking unbearable life is going to be if everyone is driving around in flying cars?
Like they're going to be flying over our homes and parks and everywhere probably be extremely noisy and spew noxious gasses all over us? Why would we want this?
2
u/HaiKarate 3h ago
I think that the ONLY way flying cars go mainstream is that there is an AI air traffic control system in place, and controls to the vehicle are completely inaccessible to the passengers. A drunk person manually piloting a flying car can do massive amounts of damage.
But the larger issue is that lifting a vehicle off the ground and flying it through the air is a FAR more energy-intensive exercise than rolling that vehicle across the ground on wheels. As long as energy cost per mile is a consideration, flying vehicles will always be considered a luxury.
1
u/NoBlood5018 2h ago
Ya I don’t think flying cars will ever be a thing. I mean you can already get ultra light planes that don’t even need a license or aircraft registration to pilot. FAA Part 103. Flying is just never going to be something mass adopted by the public I don’t think unless it’s basically as simple as get in, set a destination, and it does everything for you.

Almost like this movie stunt was made to manipulate the stock price for a very short time...

1
u/Altruistic_Tea_1593 2h ago
It was a cool stunt. Car companies build and show “concept cars” all the time. What is the problem?
4
u/HaiKarate 2h ago
Telsa actually has a page on their website where they are presenting this as a real product, and accepting $5,000 registrations.
Of course, if you look at the fine print it says that Tesla is under no obligations to ever ship this car.
•
u/Zootsutra 1h ago
So he's a student of the Trump phone School of Telling customers where to Stick it.
1
u/2-wheels 2h ago
This thing is a virtually impossible fantasy so it is not like a real “concept” car.
1
u/Miserable_Poet1460 2h ago
It really feels like Tesla also invested a lot into bots trying to sell that useless marketing gag as a actual invention on all social media platforms. This thing was neither flying nor was it a drivable car. It's like presenting a new smartphone and showcasing a version as the main act that shoots lasers.

Elon’s stunt is what’s wrong with this country.
We are no longer a country of ideas and ideals, morals, or creativity.
It’s why design and style have trended towards fast fashion and minimalism.
We are a confederation of fiefdoms, ruled over by modern lords and we are nothing more than serfs whose only service is to provide labor and wealth to be extracted from.
The Tesla roadster is not some beacon of American engineering and technology. It’s a rich man-child with too much money going “look what I can do!”
We need to round up the tech billionaires and just put them on some island and forget about them
1
u/NoBlood5018 2h ago
America has never been a country of ideals or morals. It’s always been the land where the self is king, i got mine, fuck the rest. There have never been very good worker rights or support nets. Hell, the majority of men beat their wives and that was considered normal and right.
