Does anyone else think Cat was Superman best love interest

I like Lori Lemaris; there's something romantically tragic in two lovers who can never be together. Superman and Wonder Woman in New 52 were cute because Superman worries about buying her gifts and impressing her family, y'know since she's an Olympian goddess. Clois for life though who are we kidding.

During this brief period in the mid-late 80s? Yes. Lois was barely two-dimensional and wasn't written well other than in Adventures, while Cat had a lot more character and chemistry with Clark.
After that point, when Byrne was writing all the books onward? No.

Cat might be a good love interest for Clark. She’d never fit with Superman.

This comic is not selling her as a good person and thus an awful love interest for sups

Lois was way more toxic in this era

Fair from what I’m reading in the comments makes me want to go for option three.

I don't know about "best" considering just how good Lois got in the middle 90s... but Cat was also really stellar in the mid 90s, it's just that editorial kind of put a stop to Cat and Clark having an actual romantic relationship way earlier. So that said... yeah, I always wish Cat had been given more of a fair shake in that department!

I don't think so, but she wasn't a bad one in that brief time in the 80s when she and Clark dated. I think a lot of people forget that Cat Grant was actually a decent character and friend to all the Daily Planet staff back when she was first introduced. She was flirtatious and sexually liberated, sure, but the writers didn't judge her for that and she had a nice relationship with Clark, and later Jose Delgado, where she was loyal and kind and a good mother. She even had a badass moment of calling out her sexual harasser boss on live television in front of millions of viewers, that took guts and was an extremely good bit of writing which got people to only like her more.
It wasn't until MUCH later when Geoff Johns wrote her horribly. Of all the idiotic things he's done as a writer, his treatment of Cat Grant, a woman who'd had a good relationship with every Daily Planet character prior to his run who'd gone through the tragedy of losing her son, is among his crappiest writing moments. Sure, the scene with Supergirl X-Raying her fake boobs is kinda funny at first but in retrospect, it's an AWFUL treatment of the character.

Cat was only really great when Marv Wolfman was writing her. Her dynamic with liking Clark but not caring about Superman was a fun twist at the start of the Post-Crisis era when Lois liked Superman but didn't care about Clark. But basically no other writers liked her or were willing to write her sympathetically as an actual love interest for Clark. It's especially noticeable when you're reading Wolfman's run on Adventures concurrently with Byrne's run on Superman (coming out at around the same time and in the same continuity). Byrne (and pretty much every other writer who writes Cat Grant), treated Cat as shallow, irresponsible, and just kinda mean, while Marv shows her as being kind, funny, with a genuine chemistry with Clark, and ironically less shallow than everyone else because nobody else gave Clark a second glance.
I'm pretty much a diehard Lois/Clark fan, but specifically at the very beginning of the Post-Crisis era Cat was fun and likeable. After that she's either likeable or fun but not both, and never treated as a serious romantic interest for Clark ever again.

I like it for the way they use her as a foil for Lois. She's so different so it works much better than Lana that was just palette swap of Lois that knew Superboy in pre-Crisis. It also makes Clark more human instead of him endlessly fixed on Lois when they barely knew eachother to have any sort or romantic connection. However Lois is the endgame

There's a part of me that does kinda cheer when these characters just for a minute quit being boy scouts and get them some from another concenting adult.

Sadly for Cat, Clark could probably hear who's at the door and how she treated her. That doesn't sound like the kind of love interest Clark would like.

Lois was extremely nasty toward Cat in this era in a near one sided feud and mocked her custody battle issues in the bathroom unprompted, is that the kind of love interest Clark would like?

Apparently it was...

Oh and I forgot to mention her shaming Cat for sleeping around as she did as a journalist when nobody else had a problem with it. Something Clark never had issues with and playfully teased her on and she embraced such teasing.

Clark is not simple like that. He knows that people are complex and that they are not always going to be their best selves. He was never going to fall in love with the kindest woman in the world.
