“Small and basic”. When it is time to eat the rich, I am going to make sure you are included too.
You sure do love to brag on this sub.

IMO, the two "musts" are delay and reverb. ADG-1 and EF-P2 are my go-tos.
Edit: I just realized that these names sound like two droids.

Honestly I really vibe with reverb and shimmer effects. They make me feel magical

I certainly wouldn’t call 4 flagship synths ‘basic’ but a great collection nonetheless. For pedals based on my own experience:
A BBD delay is very cool and adds another layer of lushness to an already lovely synth sound (I have the Meraki hardwired to my Trigon and it never moves)
A good reverb, choose your flavour really I like the specular tempus.
Can’t go wrong with the Chroma Console for distortion + drive plus other layered efx.
People love the H90.

I feel like you could’ve just asked for pedal recommendations without posting your “basic” set up.

As a lifelong guitarist and audio engineer who has owned lots of pedals… boss. They’re the best and they’re relatively affordable

u/Glittering-Chart-472 1d ago
My friend, this person is asking for what pedals can he that glamour shots off. Boss would not suffice.

Screw pedals. To go with your "small" collection, you should invest in a small (84 HP) Eurorack rig exclusively for effects. You'll be much happier than using pedals.

Well, OP would have 2 chorus (choruses? Chori?) then.

They can both do many things other than chorus. And he of course has more than one synth so…
But perhaps an RE-301 Space Echo would be a better option.

Best sounding chorus for synths, but the flanger side is possibly even better.
Too bad they're so hard to find

Eventide h90 is pretty boss. I’ve got a digitech “hardwired” reverb pedal that has a great basic and more funky phasery swirly reverbs. Frees up the h90 for weirder shit.
Gotta have flavors of distortion, warmth to grit to destruction. Or do a dedicated eurorack effect rack. Mine is way wilder than what I can pull from the pedals themselves

H90 sounds terrible to me! I sold mine

Oh no!! A ton of the presets run really hot, but it’s a fav for sure. Have a H9 along side it lol

Mine sounds pretty good. Live it that it’s two effects on one, which can parallel or in series.

Oh, here’s one for you… the Neon Egg 🪺 planetarium 2. Get one quickly though as they are on their final production run. The engineer has run out of components to make future batches.

With all that “basic” gear you have there I’d start with a mixer that the board would go downstream from.

From the looks of your small and basic synth collection, you can get any pedal you want. if I were you I’d go Empress

u/unmasktools 1d ago
To fit your little and simple collection you should go for the full line up of Moog frogger pedals, the are small and simple too

Hologram Chroma Console, Zoom stomp (the multi fx one), boss ce2w or DC2w

u/Achassum 1d ago
hows the chroma?
2
u/jdubz90 1d ago
I like it quite a bit, especially for synths. I originally got it for my guitar pedalboard but found that I kinda preferred all the individual effects I had over the CC itself.
HOWEVER, I think it’s a fantastic multi fx unit and it is kind of the perfect fit for someone who’s wanting to add effects to a rig without throwing a pedalboard down

u/MR_DEMOTIVATOR 1d ago
All of it depends on your price range but reverb and delay are crucial. Then I’d say chorus, distortion/fuzz/overdrive (I have a Boss/JHS angry driver and it rips), phaser (again boss phasers are sick as fuck imo), possibly compression though I’m sure you already have compression on whatever mixer you’re running all of that through. Maybe look into multi-effects pedals too? The world is ur oyster. Look into some weird pedals like chase bliss or earthquaker devices too.

This guy brags about $600/week finger drum lessons. His price range is whatever will allow him to flaunt it the most on this sub.

Who in the world do you give 600 a week to for finger drum lessons, Jeremy Elis ?

Old blood noise endeavors makes an awesome pedal reverb called sunlight, it adds some real magic to basically any synth and any patch

If you want to shell out for effects try an echo fix efx3, these things are unreal.

For a "collection" that basic a couple of Temu beaters will be fine.

I make industrial music, so I'm maybe not the person for sweetened-up sounds and expensive setups, but anyway, you just bought a deluxe chorus/phaser! My personal favourite is the Dreadbox Komorebi, by the way, but I don't think you need another chorus at all.
First of all, you've got stereo synths, so stereo pedals would be optimal (judging from your rig I'll assume you've got the money). I think if you're looking to sweeten sounds up, a compressor (to make certain patches sound full-bodied) and a super low-gain overdrive (for saturation and analogue-style "warmth") are important. For instance, an Elektron Analog Heat or a Strymon Deco 2 for saturation, and a Polyend Press or an Atlas for compression.
Check out the Empress Zoia too if you want something deep!
And an important tip too: watch out for headroom when shopping for pedals, because synths are line-level and will clip on guitar pedals if they don't have a line-level or bass setting.

Strymon Zelzah is a really good phaser. It's basically two phasers in one pedal, a 4-stage and a 6-stage. The 6-stage can also be set to do various time effects like chorus etc. You can also run them in a couple of configs like serial or independent. I use it for my guitar, but it'd be great for synths too.
If you also want a uni-vibe sound for things like electric and regular pianos or whatever, the Cornerstone Aquarium is the shit. Not cheap, but really flexible sound-wise.
Free The Tone Tri-Avatar chorus is also the shit. Super lush or minimal verging on light flanging depending on what you want. Can get extremely wide, and has a few preset memory spots as well.

If you dare take the plunge I'd also recommend a smallish eurorack case to expand the Matriarch. Some effects, extra modulation, its a lot of fun.
Otherwise all of the recommendations seem solid. Just up to your taste

I honestly love this suggestion. The user is notorious about their bragging and conspicuous consumption. Would love to see them throw all their money down the black hole of Eurorack.

Distortion / fuzz / overdrive . Need delay but your DAW probably has good ones built in. My Way Huge Conquistador gated fuzz is a lot of fun especially with mono synths .

I own many effects pedals, but I use a Hologram Microcosm (granular glitch), a Meris Mercury X (reverb for days), and a Erica Zen Delay (plus tube filter). Its a pretty sweet stack. If I had to pick one, probs the Meris.

u/fortuitouspancake 1d ago
Source Audio Collider for delay and reverb. And maybe a stereo chorus too.

u/zub_dub22 1d ago
One pedal that I always have on with one synth or another is the Strymon Deco. Great saturation and the Double Tracker side can do double tracking, short delay(single delay), flanger, chorus.
There are definitely more fun pedals but it serves its purpose really well.

Absolutely love mine. After months of back-and-forth testing, I prefer using it for quickly building grooves and songs over my Elektron devices, my Live 3, or Logic.
The cc automation, generative functions, performance features, and midi effects (arps, echos, LFOs, swing, etc) are deep. Editing notes and note lengths piano roll-style is faster than using a mouse. Working with it is visual, tactile, and intuitive.
Squarp are regularly updating it and listening to their users. Their community forum is active, and you can find instrument definition text files there which pre-load all available cc’s for almost any synth (or easily create your own).
And this sounds like a basic thing, but to change a sound source or arm a track for my main controller (Hydrasynth Deluxe for poly AT) between my hardware synths, the MPC, an iPad, or computer, I just reach over and press one button at the top of one of 16 columns.

I am not a synth head completely, but I use a Line 6 M13 so I have pretty much anything I want, and loop that out to my Bass Whammy 2 for fun.

I'd recomend a multi fx petal, one that offers a few fx on board, or if going for one I recomend something that a synthasizer won't offer in it, like a distortion or delay.

As someone with similar ‘basic’ (!?) gear running through pedals, you definitely need true stereo pedals for the matriarch and the OB-X8. Strymon, Meris and Source Audio make great stereo pedals. I also love the Earthquaker pyramids, and the Walrus Monumental. The Walrus Julianna is a great stereo chorus, but it tone sucks so it’ll rip some of the magic out of your Oberheims. The Strymon Deco is the god of pedals in my opinion :)

Check out OTO pedals and Erica Synths. Great stuff. If you want grungy weird Fairfield Circuitry. Pedals, like synths, are an endless rabbit hole.

Compressor pedal is a must.
After, reverb and delay pedal. Checkout the DemonFx Delay/Reverb pedal it’ll do the job.
Chorus pedal, Boss CE-2 is all you need.
I imagine these will be going through the line one at a time, this should suffice.
Tremolo, phaser maybe, these are good extras but the core are the ones I mentioned.

Literally only this sub could make you think this collection is small and basic. You can accomplish like 99.9% of sounds with this setup.
