general french admin Insurance

I went to my school yesterday, and they’re great, can’t wait to start, but the secretary keeps insisting to both myself and my prof ref that she can’t help sign me up for the CPAM which is getting frustrating. I tried showing the page in our guide where it says to bring the documents to the school but my secretary’s answer remains the same. If anyone had any help or advice I’d deeply appreciate it as I don’t like being in a foreign country without insurance .

Contact the rectorat of the academy and explain the issue. There’s someone there assigned to handle language assistants. An email from to your secretary explaining what needs to happen and the role the secretary plays for assistants should make things happen.

For any reason, do you already have a French social security number? I was an international student in France before TAPIF and had a completely different process for re-opening/re-accessing my rights to health insurance.

So I am a French citizen actually but I was born abroad and never really lived in France. I asked my French parent if I had a social security number and they said they weren’t sure so I went off that?

Your secretary probably believes you have a SSN already if you're a French citizen. If you don't, it is 100% the secretary that should be signing you up. If you do have a SSN already, you just need to call l'Assurance Maladie, give them the number and explain your situation.
