Everyone calling it superintelligence just sounds dumb.

The worst part is, superintelligence is a real term, used for when an artificial intelligence surpasses the scope of human ability. Trump is an idiot, and does not understand the term.

Which makes it a completely useless term. In the broad scope, generative AI never will because it does not think and does not possess any sort of actual cognition. It is a predictive algorithm in various degrees of sophistication. And in the narrow scope, a pocket calculator possesses superhuman abilities like multiplying two arbitrary four-digit numbers in under a second.

And then in another sense, it's also useless because it's mostly bandied about by the dorks who think AI will kill us all because they watched Terminator and Matrix and decided that it was inevitable that the computer would wake up and kill us all and they were the only rational people for believing these science fiction scenarios were true and accurate depictions of a reality that will occur.

Thank you for injecting some fucking sense into the conversation. The real threats associated with AI are from humans abusing its capabilities, asking it to do nefarious things, dumbing down their own intelligence and skillsets by offloading everything to it, or relying on it too heavily for highly critical tasks and having it fuck up/ hallucinate, and then its creators and users escaping culpability because it "went rogue" 🤦‍♂️

At first reading I might think that's that they plan to ban

From his perspective it makes sense. Current models at least surpassed him ...

They're trying to make fetch happen.

More than sounding dumb, it IS dumb.

That nonsense term is just a newspeak sycophant test.

Was this a play on the word ban and name Bannon?

Wait a second I just understood this. There are numerous bans for AI data centers. I wonder if by changing the name of the product to SI, you can no longer enforce the bans? In really trying to understand why the move to SI is being pushed so hard.

Not everything is a conspiracy, some things are just stupidity.

Maybe the dice is made of cheese so that they get moldy and I have to keep buying new cheese dice!

Of course, it's in Pawnee...

Wile Coyote is in shambles

There is a distinct lack of road runners in Indiana, but there are plenty of rabbits.

Superstupid is what superintelligence sounds like.

They’ve always been trying to ban intelligence

Seriously. It's AI. Just b/c the orange pedo in chief wants to change the name doesn't make it so. We are truly a sad, ridiculous country.

I can't believe we're all calling it "super intelligence" right now like Trump is worth listening to. You all need to stop letting that guy put new words in your lexicon.

Agree 100.

Also, Remember when: In 1984 four OH teens were caught trying to smuggle a box of school books across the OH-IND state line at ft. Richmond. They were all beaten, arrested and jailed and the books were confiscated and burned. All charges were eventually dropped because no one in Indiana could prove they were books.

- Good luck out there today IND. Should be a helluva game. - GO BUCS

Home to Indiana University. Would the school be exempt? Does municipal government have the authority to regulate university-sanctioned research? Otherwise, computer science, informatics, and other disciplines won’t appear as state-of-the-art at IU.

Saying this as a Purdue alum (who thankfully does not live in Indiana) the state government there has been forcing the cutting of programs to all major universities in the state that they deem “low earning”. They can and will do things like you asked (but I would guess the state will step in and not allow this specific thing to occur with AI)

Why not ban unicorns and leprechauns while you're at it?

1

u/BoB_the_TacocaT 7h ago

Yes, let's ban super-stupidity, too.

Is this the same town that set PI to be exactly 3.14 as the legal standard for all scientific and engineering calculations?

u/Undeterminedvariance 7h ago

It’s Indiana. No need to ban what doesn’t exist in this state.

2

u/S_A_R_K 4h ago

Unfortunately, the state has instead been focusing on eradicating general intelligence

Indiana and banning intelligence, super or otherwise, is pretty understandable.  Any State that tries to lure the Chicago Bears to relocate there is making decisions with something other than intelligence.

Indiana banned intelligence a long time ago.

-4

u/rushmc1 9h ago

Sounds like they've already banned regular intelligence.

-5

u/MajesticMiracles 8h ago

Blue cities have already done this lol.
