Any of these pickguards look sexy?
Thinking about a small mod to my white blonde squier cv (p90 to the neck) and i need a new pickguard, i find these funky, but i like them, what do you think?

You beat me to it… I think it’s a trick question. The answer is always tort 😂

Green and black? I’m confused by some of the answers

u/lemonbalmvesuvians 2d ago
Yes.Just my personal opinion. Which one do you like?

u/Curious-Fall-6187 2d ago
All 3 :)

Nice. I think the black one complements the rest of the guitar nicely. Maybe the yellow/blue is a bit loud, but that's just me 😄

Single ply black Bakelite is the way to go

I personally like them all, I wish there were even more options like them, I find the tortoise shell super boring

Blue and Yellow out of these

u/Curious-Fall-6187 2d ago edited 2d ago
And those you like, or those are the least worst?
2
u/ssketchman 2d ago
Blue and yellow looks best, because blue matches well with pinkish (classic marine colour combination) blonde, yellow calls back to the neck/fretboard and correlates well with brass saddles.
The green combo looks dissonant at first glance. It can work, but must be incorporated with your overall visuals. You have to make effort for it to not look out of place.
The last one kinda fades into the background and looks boring.

Huh?

You actually like the blue/ yellow, or just prefer it out if these three

cool yes. sexy? no. maybe a dark red one with more subtle contrast would be sexy

The larger pattern in the first one works best. Blue and yellow is wild but it looks great against the white blonde.
Most people are traditionalists and recommend something that is familiar, hence the tort recs. The even more traditional ones that say “plain black guard” are probably white tee, jeans and sneakers types who think a band shirt would be expressing themselves.

First one looks like bowling alley carpet in the absolute best way. I love it.
If OP plays anything remotely in the realm of Prince or old school funk and soul, that combo is made for it.

I can’t stand blue jeans, and i think the black one is the best of the three followed closely by the green one. Honestly, the blue one is really unique and i have nothing against it. I just like the other two better.

I love those materials but never could reconcile one on a guitar. It just winds up outweighing all the other elements. 🤷♂️

The green weird geographical thingy was almost my choice too when I installed a p90 in my Classic Vibe 50s, I went with cream pearloid in the end because that’s what the luthier had
If that’s actually how the pickups will look then I really like the first one more than the others

They all look like technicolor vomit to me 🤮

They are a lot, aren’t they? I was just curious, as my favourite (mint green) does not compliment the white blonde too much

Id say get a blank, sand it, get a couple colors of paint and make one yourself by stabbing it with a small dry brush. It'll look more original

I love flashy pick guards. Those all look nice but I think the green swirly one looks best.

Your guitar man, who cares what any of us think. Although I wouldn’t do my guitar dirty like that.

The blue is cool, but the white and black complements the color of the guitar best i think

Just to add to the project, check out the Magneto HB-sized P90s. They have a lot of cover options that may help tie it all together

I prefer number three, the black-and-white one. I wanna know what that P90 pick up by the neck is, I saw something similar and the brand name was Q pickups.

LOL, no.

Really? That bad?! :D

u/Psillycybernaught 1d ago
Yep, and the pick up surround, what's with that? It's all too busy and lacks any sort of theme or continuity

Thank you. I was thinking about the blue and gold one for mine until I saw here how awful it looks. The black and white one looks pretty cool. But you know what. It doesn’t have to suit us. Just has to suit you.

The only bearable one is the last one but it doesn’t match the colour of the guitar.
None of them

I would go solid black and not drawn attention to a slab of cheesy-looking plastic.

Ignore anyone talking about use of AI to see it on the product, they’re miserable people. Also ignore the ones saying “none” or “these look hideous” they have one dimensional minds and had to put their shitty opinion out there instead of helping you decide. My thoughts are, black is good for contrast in monochrome, blue adds color while still looking decent enough and not over the top and green has a vibe but I dont personally like that one, even as someone who loves green. Id say black is safe and blue would add some nice color. Happy shredding!
