Full Self-Driving / Autopilot “Tesla Assisted Driving Basic”
Model S75D owner with FSD pre-purchased (HW3 and MCU2 Intel upgrades) from Switzerland. Got this message from Tesla (in app) today. Not sure how I feel about the “Basic” qualifier there, having bought a car that was fully capable of driving itself (I think Tesla called it “Autopilot” back then) almost 10 years ago.
Not allowed to ask questions apparently, but I’m just curious if the “Basic” qualifier is due to my “legacy hardware” with seemingly no upgrade path at the moment.

So this is exactly what European laws are for. It was never a Autopilot, that was just a fancy name and it clearly mislead you, it was always assisted driving like all the other car manufacturers call it.
As far as I know none of the functionality changed, just the name, and it was a requirement set by the German(iirc) government for approval

The thing is that I
1) live outside of the EU;
2) if given a chance, would much rather get some money back than a name change. The name change accomplishes nothing, except making it sound like Tesla already delivered on their promise of “Assisted Driving Basic” (because my car has been assisting my driving for 9 years, basically) when people actually were sold (and sometimes bought) “full self driving”. The fact that they do this over an inconspicuous message when there is a media blitz over a kick-flipping car is just the cherry on top.
I hope that the EU sees through this bullshit and fights back.

I agree, I hope the EU sees through this as well, but you can't really blame them; Elon has a track record of making promises that never come to fruition, and people buying his cars should know it by now. I wish us Europeans could start class action lawsuits more easily (idk why it isnt as common) to fight back against stuff like this ourselves as well

Absolutely agree, it’s definitely a good move for new buyers! Unfortunately I bought the car back in 2017 when Elon was just an “overpromise-but-deliver” guy. I knew FSD wasn’t coming in “3 months maybe, 6 months definitely” – but I wasn’t expecting to get only minimal improvements and a rename of the feature in nearly 10 years. I not only feel swindled, I feel like they are actively robbing it in our faces at this point..

Yes. HW3 gets the 'Basic' in the name, HW4 doesn't.

I mixed some things up, see correction below

that’s not true. If you go to order page of new Tesla, it asks you if you want to subscribe to Tesla Assisted Driving Basic

You're right. I misremembered.
Actually 'TAD Basic' is what you get in countries where FSD hasn't been approved yet (and is absolutely not worth 100€/month).
What does that mean?
- 'TAD Basic' is the new name for the old FSD, which is basically EAP plus some extra features like traffic light detection and Summon.
- 'TAD' is the new name for FSD (Supervised).
TAD is only available for HW4, so technically I was correct and 'TAD Basic' is the only thing available for HW3.

Shame the price they want for this POS is far from basic. I notice the name changes a few times a month - they price never does

I have Hw4 and bought fsd, it’s still called basic for me here in France.

Every Country in Europe with every car, even HW4 shows Basic if FSD isn’t allowed yet.
