The problem is that young people don't vote.

It is strange that older people, who have much fewer years left to live with their political decisions, vote at higher rates than young people, who take much less interest on the impact of politics on theirs.

Always been the case........and US continues to do nothing but make it more difficult for young vote

Yeah, more than half a million voter registrations still haven’t been processed. Some of them have been waiting for almost a year.
Republicans always act so high and mighty about morals and honesty and they’re a bunch of immoral deceitful people

Younger people are more busy with their lives, career, kids, etc.

which would reason to assume that voting would be even more important to them, as all the activities you listed are impacted by policy decisions

I voted every presidential election, from age 18 onward. I never got the mindset of people who didn't care about voting, but also I did skip the odd years for local elections because I wasn't paying attention.

I know some young people refuse to vote out of like a desire for purity, maybe in the same way that they won't eat their vegetables because they don't like how it tastes.

But I do think it's just genuinely that a lot of people are distracted and haven't experienced the consequences of not voting, or had their friends shake them to pay attention.

And like, maybe it'd be easier to get them to vote if we had more investment in good communication that would be directed at young people with an eye toward educating them and telling them why it matters in their lives.

I’ve talked to 18-19 year olds on the net and they tell me that they think they should be vote at 18 cause they think their “brain isn’t fully developed to vote”. This is not a joke. 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

It's sad they have no idea they're helping destroy their own futures.

I don’t get it. When I was 18 I was excited to register to vote. I was excited to feel like I have that power to sway the voting, to pick whoever represents me, to pick whoever governs my state, etc.

Why do young people today not have that thrill?

You are all making extreme generalizations about young people. I am surrounded by young people that are excited to vote in this upcoming midterm. Young people are part of the reason the seats will be flipped so drastically this election.

I really doubt that.

You may be right, but we can always hope. I have champagne on my hand if we win and whiskey to drown my sorrows in if we don’t.

I was a senior in HS during a presidential election year. My politics and government teacher was thrilled at the opportunity to teach us everything he could about campaigns and the election process. I think he would've failed any one of us if he found out we didn't vote.

It’s like some of yall forgot what it was like to be young and feel invincible.

Nah, it's always been like this. They're just apathetic.

tiktok, Insta, ......

Voting starts Monday bro. you have lots of time. But then again, if it isn't important to you, that's all good as well.

3

u/bigj8705 2d ago

It’s because voting isn’t “cool”

Once the algorithm start showing young people waiting in line to vote and it becomes popular and a thing maybe.

But I also think it’s willfully ignorant in the “oh it doesn’t matter” , and 2 who’s the better choice and lacking information or not being informed..

2

u/Conscious-Demand-594 2d ago

Early voting starts on Monday. No lines!!!!

1

u/PiccoloAwkward465 1d ago

I can't remember standing in a line to vote since the 90s

This is great, but it is a small subset of kids. This election will be very telling as to where we are.

Most of them won't vote.

It’s a week’s pay to fill my fridge and gas tank. Trans immigrants aren’t my fucking problem.

-28

u/Impossible-Funny-535 2d ago

If you’re making less than $1k every 2 weeks the problem is you not the economy, the government, or immigration.

u/SPFCCMnT 2d ago edited 2d ago

If your family’s weekly grocery and gas bill is less than $500 then god bless you, man

0

u/Vegetable_Safety 2d ago

Grocery is about 250 for the month for two of us, I'm guessing you have kids and/or you get a lot of prepared foods

Gas though yeah, I've never been so glad to be working from home

-9

u/Impossible-Funny-535 2d ago

You’re doing something very wrong if you’re spending more than $500 a week in groceries and gas. We spend about $150 or less per week at heb. Maybe $125 on gas a week. That’s $275. But we also have jobs that support our spending. Either you have too many kids for the jobs you have or you’re buying an insane amount of groceries and gas and you’re still overspending compared to what you’re paid. How much do you spend a week on groceries and gas?

u/Vegetable_Safety 2d ago

You just provided the counter point to your own argument

16

u/TXbeatsyouinafight 2d ago

Exactly. Go vote. Dan Patrick is 76 years old.

25

u/slothaccountant 2d ago

Lets hope we can salvage what we can so kids today can have a good future. If not for them for their kids i hope they can afford to have

Cool. Prove it by voting.

u/dragoninthebigsky 2d ago

Those old, aging, 'senior' politicians need to pass the baton.

5

u/EffectiveAttempt4608 2d ago

The future is bright with the democrats, Texas don't let me down!

15

u/paulk1997 2d ago

Bring it on. Go vote.

Then vote like it.

9

u/rumblesnort The Stars at Night 2d ago

Sure, sounds great, maybe they can go vote tho? The boomers will absolutely be voting to keep everything the same. The young voter turnout in Texas is terrible.

5

u/Forsaken-Molasses-87 2d ago

Young voter turnout is low everywhere not just in tx.

2

u/FlowRemote9890 Born and Bred 2d ago

If young people could be bothered to vote, this country would be very different.

1

u/aquestionofbalance 1d ago

Not all boomers and not all young people. Ageism just another way to divide people.

2

u/Forsaken-Molasses-87 2d ago

Although it’s a small sect it’s nice to younger people engage in politics & vote. as a younger voter i try my best to be engaged

3

u/texanchris born and bred 2d ago

Monday - people. Vote early!

1

u/GrandPrarie 2d ago

Let's hope they vote

1

u/Wahree_77 2d ago

They’re outnumbered by racist right wingers…. I’ll believe it when I see it!! Texas would be a great place without Republican leadership‼️

1

u/Bar-14_umpeagle 1d ago

I sure hope they decide to vote blue.

How will the Epstein Class convince the rubes to vote for them, then?

I think we can write this off due to being subscriber only.

Young Texans are fed up with hate and division.

Most of the article and picture are about a girl's only event/program.

Which IM not against by the way (really dont give a shit) but to lead with the headline they're against division?

looks like they're pretty happy for it to me as long as its the right kind.

u/Wharbaby 2d ago

And vote (R) because Joe Rogan said so
