Opinion Playoff Push is Still On (Hopefully)
Toronto FC are still in the playoff conversation mathematically but the remaining schedule makes it just not very enticing. TFC's 3–3 draw against Orlando yesterday means they missed the chance to pick up all three points at home. Their remaining matches include:
- Oct. 17: @ New York Red Bulls
- Oct. 24: @ Columbus Crew
- Oct. 28: vs. D.C. United
- Nov. 1: @ Atlanta United
- Nov. 7: @ Philadelphia Union
Only one home game in the last 5. Rough.
The latest table put Toronto on 33 points. FC Cincinnati occupy ninth place, the final playoff position, on 36 points in the latest standings snapshot. That means TFC are chasing at least a three-point gap in the last 5 games. Ideally four wins from five.
This is like the 3rd straight season that its ends like this.
What do y'all think?

I don't think we'll pull it off, but I do know I'll watch every moment of it hoping that they can. There isn't really much more any of us can say at this point, we just have to hope and see.
Oh, and #firefraser

Dropped too many points early in the season, too many points lost in draws (which also sinks some tiebreak scenarios)
This team is actually relatively fun to watch with everyone mostly healthy so I'll keep watching until they're out for real. But yeah I'd like to see some changes next year. And to actually start the season with a full roster in place, rather than having acquisitions trickle in for months.

If we beat redbulls I think we have a realistic shot due to momentum and morale. If we cant even beat them then its gonna be rough, remember people we beat nashville and miami anything is possible.

I posted this yesterday and I'll say it again: we have five matches left, four of which aren't at home. This whole season, we've won two away matches. Short of a literal miracle, we're at our 6th straight year without playoffs.
There's no way we're making playoffs and we should have our expectations set for that. It's not the time to somehow get 3-4 wins. The entire season was time to convert 12 draws into 3-4 wins so that we have a comfortable position into playoffs.
Even if we somehow pull it off, the stars align and NYRB, Columbus and Atlanta completely choke at home, we would still only get a wildcard spot, far from a comfortable playoff spot.

We gotta get a keeper. Gavran wouldn’t last three weeks at a club with expectations.

I couldn't agree more. To be a properly serious club, we need an above average keeper. Gavran is a great second keeper, but he was always an experiment combined with a lack of available funds. Now that we know what he's capable of, it's time to start looking for other talent.
Much like we should be doing with Fraser.

Remaining matches for teams in the playoff hunt. Hard to predict anything at this point with the large number of 6-pointer matches remaining. We likely need 4 more wins to have a chance.

That's a very good schedule left for NYCFC.

Chat says 52% with a win in New York this weekend, sub-10 with a draw or defeat.
We are 2-3-8 on the road this year I think, seems like 10 points might be the sweet spot.
Long story short, at least we have “semi” meaningful football to watch down the stretch, but we fall short before decision day

Yep that was it last night, call me a naysayer from here on out, happy to be proven wrong.

The good thing for us is lots of the teams we are competing with are also playing each other.
TFC @ redbull Orlando vs DC Cincinnati vs crew NYCFC vs LAFC
TFC @ Crew Redbull vs miami Orlando vs NYCFC DC vs Cincinnati
Tfc vs DC NYCFC vs Atl Miami vs Cincinnati Revs vs redbull Chicago vs Orlando
Tfc vs Atl Redbull vs nashville Orlando vs Charlotte Nycfc vs cheese fuckers DC vs crew Cincinnati vs Philly
Tfc vs Philly Orlando vs revs Redbull vs Atlanta DC vs NYCFC Cincinnati vs nashville
From the look of the opponents we have by far the easiest schedule. 3 teams below us, one that is 3 pts ahead and our best opponent is 6th in the east.
Redbulls and Cincinnati both have tough schedules with nashville and miami over the next 5 games. NYCFC and DC has a weaker schedules but would still put us as the easiest.
All this to show we still have a ton of influence on if we make the playoffs.

I have no faith that they make the playoffs, but if they can squeak in they've shown flashes that they can beat anyone. and a fully healthy team could do anything.

It doesn’t matter if we make the playoffs. The season has been horrible. I actually think we have decent players but man the coach is a joke. If we maintain this coach and front office, we will have painful years ahead.

I haven't followed TFC as much post WC as I usually do, so maybe that's why I could have sworn TFC was in a better position to make it to decision day as a contender.. 10-12 points from this schedule (even with an easier one) is a pipe dream.

It’s over lol. Needed the 3 points at home against an uninspired Orlando and we did everything in our power to keep Orlando in the game. Only 1 more home game and one of the first tiebreakers is wins which isn’t good for Tie FC.
