Comic Spoilers The Flash #38 cover discussion
Spoilers for The Flash #40 based on solicits
It appears that #38 is changing the box art from Wally to just the Flash logo. So I wanna know what are your thoughts on why that is? I'm wondering if (with Wally losing his speed around #40) they'll pivot the book to another Flash, say Jay (now that JSA is done) or Barry (depending on when he gets his speed back, maybe that's how he does) or even someone like Bart etc.

North already confirmed at NYCC that Wally's still got the book for the next year. As long as he is on the book, Flash will be about Wally. Let's not spread misinformation please.

Not spreading misinformation. It's simply a theory

There is no point in theory, Ryan North has confirmed Wally West will be the lead of the book as long as he writes, and he gave a recent interview where he stated he's already planning on the next few arcs where Wally's kids and Linda will get bigger roles.

Wait, how and why do we know that Wally will loose his speed? I’m out of the loop.

I think people are reading too deep into this. It’s a weird change for sure given that this likely isn’t even where Wally loses his powers (that’ll probably be at the end of #39), but if Barry was gonna reclaim the lead role so suddenly, you’d think he’d have featured in North’s run at any point leading up to this. Another member of the Flash family will probably pick up Wally’s slack while he’s lost his powers, but the arc will definitely resolve with him getting them back.

Solicits are clearly saying it will be Irey and Jai to help Wally out.

Tbh I will be a little bit annoyed if Wally ends up getting his powers back almost immediately, meanwhile Barry's still been powerless for two years.

My interest in the Flash is dependent on Wally being the MC. If Wally does lose his speed and Barry takes over then I would likely be dropping the book.

It wouldn’t make sense to change the logo starting this issue as Wally is still the flash here and in the next issue as well. Hell, even Kyle still has box corner art despite the shift in protagonists in the upcoming issues of Green Lantern. It may just be a nothing burger of a change. Could be wrong though.

I’ve been liking this run way too much for them to take wally off of the main lead, I’ll probably drop it if they do something stupid like that

My guess is that they’re gonna drop some promo/filler issue soon to cover Barry cus it is Showcase #4’s 70th anniversary, but seeing as Stephanie Williams teased something with him in it, I think it’s probably not going to impact the main book besides showing him getting repowered and shipped off to some other corner of the DC universe

That'd be cool, although Barry's anniversary was back in July.

I've been on record for saying that I would be okay with a new Flash. Someone to continue the legacy of the three/four we have so far. I think Wally losing his speed and needing to be a mentor on the sidelines for a new Flash could be interesting. Ideally I'd want to see DC wait a few years first, and let Irey take the role, but I'd be okay with seeing Avery as the main Flash for a bit too. I could see Wally being a reluctant mentor, not because he's a broken old man or whatever it is that stories usually do, but because he's worried for the new Flash, because he's seen the toll being a superhero can take on someone. Ideally this would be just for a 12 issue arc at first. That's enough time to make it permanent if it's successful, and backpedal back to Wally or Barry if it isn't.
That being said, this is probably just a temporary thing for the story, like Barry becoming the avatar of the strength force was back in the Williamson era.

I'm sorry but a new Flash would be stupid. Unless they're making Bart the Flash again we never need a new Flash. We still have Bruce as Batman, Clark as Superman, Diana as Wonder Woman etc. Why on Earth should we need another Flash when we still have Jay, Barry, and Wally, and maybe Bart if DC actually wanted to progress him as a character. But we never need another outside of those 4.

Flash is about progressing forward so I agree with others that we should have a new Flash at some point.
