Toronto police say they were called to the station on October 7 to assist TTC Constables after several youths attempted to enter the station by manipulating the entrance gates.

Investigators say as they attempted to arrest one of the youths for assaulting a police officer, they were surrounded and assaulted by three other young people who attempted to interfere with the arrest.

Police say a 13-year-old, a 14-year-old, and a 15-year-old have each been charged with assaulting a peace officer and obstructing a peace officer.

Another 14-year-old and a 15-year-old face charges of obstructing a peace officer.

jeebus.

Can't wait till these kids are adults /s

15

u/DrSimonLocke 21h ago

Some probably won't make it, if they're already engaging in such upstanding conduct as assaulting police officers. It begs the question, what else are they up to.

When I was 13 I liked playing with my dog and watching WWF…..

21

u/SevenInch_Rob_ 1d ago

When I was 13 I absolutely hated the wwf and thought it was the worst thing ever and now I appreciate how hard those guys have to push their bodies for entertainment

So you would know moves to get those cops off of your friend

6

u/Fun-Result-6343 1d ago

Yeah, but why would you? These young lads have done nothing but fuck themselves up unnecessarily.

I hope they at least had a good summer. /s

Just pay the fare, kids

6

u/Puzzled-Opening658 1d ago

When I was a kid I had to pay to ride. Why do kids get to ride for free up to age 12 now?  They probably have trouble adjusting to the concept that transit isn’t free

1

u/wondering-jpeg 6h ago

Kids ride for free because it helps working parents afford groceries and rent. Just because you didn't have it as a kid doesn't mean it's not a good public investment. The more people on public transit means there's less people in cars creating more traffic. Programs that incentivize young ppl to take transit helps them grow up into adults that take transit.

Tldr: It's a win win to give kids free rides.

5

u/RequirementNo2161 23h ago

Also… don’t fight cops

1

u/Doctor_Amazo 1d ago

If there were tolls on highways, drivers would drive through gates.

20

u/free-canadian 1d ago

You know for a fact this won’t happen. There might be political opposition but no one is ruining their car for this in Canada. Stop lying and pay the fucking fare.

2

u/Doctor_Amazo 1d ago

Toronto put up speed cameras and drivers felt justified destroying them.

If there is one thing we can all rely on its the violent entitlement of drivers.

12

u/Facts_pls 1d ago

We do have tolls on some highways like 407. Vast majority pay for it

6

u/liquor-shits 23h ago

Vast majority use other highways

4

u/dgod40 1d ago

Same way vast majority pay fares on the TTC

4

u/free-canadian 1d ago

Except you’re not getting your shoes impounded when you don’t pay the TTC fare.

2

u/Doctor_Amazo 1d ago

No. Just hundreds of dollars in fines.

-3

u/Doctor_Amazo 1d ago

1 highway.

It should be ALL of them.

60

u/Puzzled-Opening658 1d ago

It takes a special level of arrogance for teens who are too young to drive to think they can a) ride transit without paying and b) assault cops FFS

Can someone put the fear of god into these inmates in training?

10

u/Unfair-Pause-3271 11h ago

Until the YCJA is reformed or abolished this problem won’t go away. Any criminally inclined person <18 yrs old knows for a fact that they’re essentially above the law for all intents and purposes

5

u/hellzscream 11h ago

It has become much more common for riders not to pay especially middle school and high school kids 12years+. It's never been easier not to pay as riders just pile into the back and I believe drivers were told not to intervene with non-payers anymore.

2

u/IvoryTowerResident 10h ago

2-3 years in Dagestan

0

u/GPT3-5_AI 5h ago

It takes a special level of capitalist to think that children should pay to use public transport.

2

u/Commercial_Pain2290 Seaton Village 5h ago

How's is it capitalism - it is government owned. The opposite of capitalism. But sure - you don't want to pay for transit therefore you are justified to assault police.

21

u/Economy_Ad59 1d ago

All big and tough until it's time to pay $2 for the TTC lol

7

u/MonkeyAlpha Queen's Quay Harbourfront 1d ago

Wasn’t there a video someone posted on the ttc sub that got deleted?

9

u/DrSimonLocke 23h ago

Yep. Whole bunch of youths swarming the officials there. Then more cops showed up and they were having none of it, then the arrests followed.

5

u/Impressive_Smell_420 16h ago

Theyre still learning what stations are the easy ones

21

u/OkLion5180 1d ago

This was in relation to the video that was posted everywhere btw

12

u/britishbassplayer 1d ago

Got a link? I can’t seem to find it

12

u/DrSimonLocke 1d ago edited 23h ago

I think it was on the TTC subreddit. The youths were all of colour, and eventually more police arrived and subdued/arrested all of them. One tried to sneak away down the stairs and a cop was having none of it from him!

2

u/Kooky_Soft1822 8h ago

Must have sauce

1

u/Both-Trainer-4573 3h ago

‘The youths were all of colour’. I think you need to add
more here so we understand the point you are trying to make by adding this descriptor.

You don’t want people to infer or misconstrue your intent.

Kids Today

17

u/fadedXyouth 1d ago

Charge the parents. Their lack of parenting shouldn't be at the cost of the public imo.

9

u/IanT86 19h ago

They have started doing this in the UK, or cut their benefits

7

u/IvoryTowerResident 10h ago

cutting the benefit is a great one

3

u/IanT86 6h ago

I agree, especially in the UK where it is insane how much people get. The counter argument is that it does promote more criminality long term as the kids and their families basically end up worse off. But I'd argue (coming from the North of England where benefit use is prolific) a lot of these families care more about their shiny objects than the government realise and it would be a firm kick up the arse to them if they saw things being taken away

3

u/Kooky_Soft1822 8h ago

Plural parents is likely not a reality for these kids.

-7

u/ChanceImmediate4976 1d ago

A lot of the police officers' parents are probably retired or even deceased. Not sure what charging them would accomplish.

11

u/Maleficent_Wafer996 22h ago

I’m sure you’re not very funny at parties. I know you don’t get invited to them anyways

-1

u/far_flung_itsnotme 21h ago

If the cop's parents are cops then charging them would get them suspended with full pay indefinitely, until they were retired early on a full pension. Police are as corrupt as Dougie.

25

u/Burning___Earth 1d ago

-9

u/env33e 1d ago

this but in unironically

looks like that 1.5billion net black hole in the police budget is certainly doing its work 😹 punitive measure to.... prevent kids from traveling . nice

2

u/FlamingoSeparate8213 13h ago

This is why we need to stop having kids

5

u/hellzscream 11h ago

What? We need parents/teachers to do a better job at teaching kids basic values. Kids are required for a functioning society

3

u/GenerationalPotato 10h ago

nah i agree with the first guy. Stop having kids.

1

u/GAMING_SERVER_ADMIN 3h ago

Teachers are not at all the ones at fault here in fact, kids gotten so bad become so hard on teacher and these insane class sizes, etc and rules and omg you look the wrong way at a student now...

This is 100% on parents.

0

u/FlamingoSeparate8213 11h ago

So what do they need to improve on?

2

u/Jakevader2 8h ago

Were you like this as a kid?

1

u/FlamingoSeparate8213 7h ago

No but it seems like the youth these days are getting out of hand

1

u/GAMING_SERVER_ADMIN 3h ago

Well have some kids and show them right from wrong. Maybe we can pass it on to other parents.

1

u/FlamingoSeparate8213 3h ago

Then why didn’t they just do it for these kids?
Your telling me no one ever showed them right to wrong

1

u/GAMING_SERVER_ADMIN 3h ago

You will learn fast that the high childbirth population wise tends to be from poverty stricken families. While they might be good or bad parents many times they lack education, money, support, etc.

1

u/FlamingoSeparate8213 2h ago

Then that’s the issue we should be focused on

1

u/Ordinary_Bicycle6309 6h ago

No. We had rules and discipline.

3

u/AbsoluteSpaz12 11h ago edited 10h ago

I'm raising my kids not to be pieces of shit but go off Adult Virgin.

1

u/FlamingoSeparate8213 7h ago

Pretty sure u could do that and they’d still end up becoming pieces of shit

5

u/SpadinaBus77B 1d ago

Were they not supposed to do that?

4

u/Felon_musk1939 1d ago

They've got some future career choices: Bloods or Cripps

3

u/Kooky_Soft1822 8h ago

Bloody lip will do for now

7

u/DrSimonLocke 1d ago

Judging from the video, some were probably of those affiliations already.

2

u/ManyNicePlates 6h ago

Jail community service and fines for the slacker parents and public shaming would be my goto

2

u/itchygoopark 4h ago

Society in general and basic civility is in a slow but steady decline to oblivion.

-11

u/Shadowmant 1d ago

I’m skeptical of how real an “assault” this was. Did they actually attack them or just lightly grab them while begging them to let go of their friend?

Police have been known to make initial charges a bit overblown to incentivize plea deals and this article doesn’t make any mention of injuries to the officers.

It’s certainly not written in a way I would expect it to be if some gang beat the shit out of multiple officers.

Have they released any bodycam footage to show what happened?

13

u/Facts_pls 1d ago

I mean, you don't need to stab the officer to count as assault. I'm sure the video will surface in the trial but good chance they'll be let out for free.

-7

u/Shadowmant 1d ago

Agreed. But taking this article at face value, with no additional information, not a single officer needing to be checked out for so much as a minor injury makes one wonder if it’s as serious as the title makes it out to be.

12

u/DrSimonLocke 23h ago

There's a video taken by a spectator that was going around before. The dumb kids had it coming.

-9

u/Shadowmant 23h ago

Maybe. Haven't seen it. That's why I mentioned it would be nice to see a video.

1

u/Both-Trainer-4573 3h ago edited 3h ago

Fare avoidance is not acceptable, however cops routinely charge ppl with ‘assault’ for the most inconsequential even accidental contact. The bar for ‘assault’ when it comes to cops is extremely low and completely up to the discretion of the Officer, not some objective criteria.

I am sure if you tried to claim assault for what happened to these cops, TPS would tell
you to file a report and you would never hear from them again.

They need to focus on the fare evasion, that’s the real issue, not their hurt feelings because they need to actually work
for their pay.

-25

u/BandicootAgreeable38 1d ago

Police officers assault people all the time.

9

u/HandofFate88 1d ago

Sure, but not 13-year-old police officers.

5

u/SevenInch_Rob_ 1d ago

....what?

-50

u/gm5891 1d ago edited 1d ago

Cops grabbed a kid for doing something stupid but a major crime and their friends tried to help the kid. Hopefully it doesn't end up running their lives. Can't trust a cop to even be understanding with a kid.

Edit: Kids shouldn't be manhandled for fare evasion! No one should! If you think this is justified, you have no empathy for children!

37

u/tobaknowsss 1d ago

I've seen enough high-school kids on the TTC causing too many problems and generally making it miserable for other passengers that my sympathy for them is all worn out.

-15

u/gm5891 1d ago

Are you an adult?

24

u/cuprous_veins 1d ago

Are you?

12

u/Facts_pls 1d ago

So... What should the cop do? Let them go without paying?

-11

u/gm5891 1d ago

Yes, who cares! Not worth beating someone up

15

u/AyeLykeTyrtles 1d ago

Nobody got beat up here. They arrested someone for assaulting the fare officer, then others assaulted the officers arresting the first “kid”.

People in here doing mental gymnastics to turn this into a fare issue. The real issue is these punks assaulted officers and resisted the arrest for it.

Get outta here with spinning the “kids” as poor victims.

1

u/Both-Trainer-4573 2h ago edited 2h ago

If we had a Police force that operated with integrity. It would be easy to take their claim of ‘assault’ seriously.

Remember the last time they colluded to try and send a an innocent man to jail for attempted murder because a Police Officer jumped in front of his vehicle and got hit?

Let’s not pretend that this claim
Of “assault’ is ‘assault’ by any objective standard.

If you try to get away from an Officer and accidentally step on his steel toed boot, he can choose to claim ‘assault’ if he is annoyed that you are making him work to arrest you.

Now compare that to the countless videos we have seen of officers brutalizing citizens and no charge of assault is laid.

If they applied that
Same standard to this situation not one of those kids engaged
In anything close to assault.

-7

u/Impossible-Owl8234 21h ago

Yes for the love of fuck.

40

u/Colester415 1d ago

Most kids don't try breaking laws in plain view of the police and then proceed to assault the police when confronted. This is beyond stupid by the kids.

Not sure what outcome you want to happen, if the behaviour isn't corrected now they will just keep doing more stupid things.

-24

u/gm5891 1d ago

Not grabbed, handcuffed or charged

21

u/RoxasInABoxas 1d ago

So the police should do nothing and then people will complain that the police do nothing lol

33

u/tobaknowsss 1d ago

So essentially you want them to just get away with their behaviour on the grounds that they're young and don't know better? Even though we all know that's just not the case.

28

u/seat17F 1d ago

The "boys will be boys" defence.

-25

u/gm5891 1d ago

Their brains aren't fully developed... Do you believe in corporal punishment?

23

u/Radiant_Sherbert7272 1d ago

Or here's an idea. Don't break the law and don't attack police officers.

26

u/Feisty_Working7643 1d ago

Is your brain fully developed? Holy moly !

12

u/steakjuice 1d ago

I wonder what their stance is on kids with gender dysphoria

5

u/theirishembassy 1d ago edited 23h ago

“boys will be boys”

tell me, at what age do you think people should grow out of being allowed to break shit and assault others?

31

u/Glizzyinmypocket 1d ago

What do you suggest police do? Give them a lollipop and ask them to please not do it again?

3

u/gm5891 1d ago

I know it's a lot to ask the police not to react with violence. They should be able to talk to the kids. It used to be called "community policing"

19

u/Link15x 1d ago

So if the kids decide to start running away or, in this case, assaulting them, the police should just talk to them?

You do realize it's mainly youths commuting violent shootings and home invasions. Should we just talk to them too?

2

u/gm5891 1d ago

Ya to no 1, no to no 2

16

u/Glizzyinmypocket 1d ago

Based on your responses I can tell you have led a very privileged and sheltered life. I’m happy for you.

-4

u/gm5891 1d ago

Yeah, the privilege of going outside and not being terrified of teenagers

15

u/Link15x 1d ago

Well maybe just unaware. It's common knowledge that organized crime hires youth to commit shootings, home invasions, robberies, etc knowing that they are easily exploited and the YCJA will go easy on them.

-3

u/Ok_Waltz3962 1d ago

5

u/Link15x 19h ago

What does that have to do with my comment? Im glad those cops got arrested, but u5w not relevant to my comment.

If anything it proves my point because the adults werent the ones doing the actual hits here.

8

u/Timber2BohoBabe 1d ago

I think you are out of touch with what kids are like these days. I can assure you that if they felt comfortable putting their hands on a police officer, they wouldn't be the kind to chat, even after de-escalation.

7

u/Facts_pls 1d ago

Grabbing someone trying to get into station without paying is not violence. You are imagining Jedi police with force that can stop people without touching them.

17

u/Link15x 1d ago

How do you think police handcuff someone without grabbing them? Do you think everyone just complies and puts their hands behind their back?

14

u/Feisty_Working7643 1d ago

He thinks everyone is a perfect beautiful human, no grasp of reality in this world.

4

u/AbsoluteSpaz12 10h ago

The cop was assaulted which lead to the arrest, you don't get to assault police officers. Sorry this is difficult to understand.

2

u/Both-Trainer-4573 2h ago

I think that ‘handoffate88’ is saying only Police officers over the age of 13 should be allowed to assault people and 12 year olds that are not Police Officers are not allowed to assault people.
I suspect ‘handoffate88’ is on the way to being promoted to 1st class constantly on the TPS with such logic.

-7

u/ConversationHead6969 1d ago

Thought cops had guns?

13

u/DrSimonLocke 23h ago

Usually they don't shoot kids avoiding paying subway fare.

Usually. Some might get a taze or two, maybe a police tackle and some cuffs like in the video of the incident that was going around.

•

u/Both-Trainer-4573 1h ago

But you know that if they wanted to, they could have shot the kids and claim self defense. Like you made clear in your prior post, they looked like gang members, simply because they are not Caucasians.

If you are not working for TPS, you certainly think like a member of TPS.

6

u/zedguy 1d ago

Sure, but they also know you're not supposed to shoot them off in the subway.

5

u/liquor-shits 23h ago

You think they should have shot the kids?

Less then 20$

Now we as society are going to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars, if not millions of dollars, on police, communications, incarceration, Lawyers, the courts and Judges.

These youths are going to be traumatized for the rest of their existence. Their Families as well.

Over less than 20$.

6

u/DrSimonLocke 21h ago

Let's flip that: is it worth getting a criminal record and assaulting a police officer over less than $20? And over something one of your stupid friends did?

Smart people can figure that one out,  because that video was all sorts of stupid from those kids.

It's a dumb charge to get if you could have just not assaulted a cop or gotten involved. If your friend is getting pinched by the fuzz for not dripping his dime in the collector's booth, don't try to swarm the officers like a fool and prevent his arrest. Now you're going down with the 5-0 for his stupid actions, you jive?

•

u/Both-Trainer-4573 1h ago

Yet police officers engage in real assault and are still employed.

Which is a greater danger to society? Fare evasion or brutalizing citizens, providing hitmen with people’s addresses, colluding to imprison an innocent man?

Funny how this level of accountability is missing from you when cops engage in actual Criminal behaviour?

But non Caucasians engaging in fare evasion is the real criminal activity we need to focus on.

15

u/Facts_pls 1d ago

When everyone thinks like a leech, it's not 20 dollars anymore. Suddenly it's hundreds of millions of dollars.

Also, are you saying it's okay to steal if the amount is low? Interesting moral compass.

If everyone stole 20 dollars from you, how long before you go broke...

10

u/Comrade_agent 1d ago

Their Families as well.

......not much parenting going on here given such a poor display of judgement and consideration for consequences anyway. Should be traumatized about their demon spawn if anything

7

u/AyeLykeTyrtles 1d ago

It does not cost millions of dollars to prosecute this. What an absurd take here.

7

u/meta_adaptation 1d ago

It’s a good point it’s a waste of resources but you lost me at the kids are the victim here and are traumatized? How about youths, or anyone for that matter refrain from putting their hands on cops, or just any person in general. Hands and feet to yourself is what we teach children, these children apparently missed that memo. FAFO.

But yeah I agree, $20 of fares for all of those services is a total waste and this wasn’t worth it for the cops to get involved clearly. Hope there is body cam video to help explain what happened / if the cops overreacted
