Lunch/Dinner Pork floss?
Looking at making a dehydrated pulled pork bowl with rice, bbq sauce and pork floss. Wondering if anyone has done anything like this or has attempted to rehydrate pork floss while backpacking, and how did it turn out?

Rehydrating meat is incredibly easy if you're cooking rice. Add slightly more water than you're used to. For beef, toss the handful in at the three minute mark and re-cover. Pork or chicken goes in at the two minute mark before doneness.
Then, patience. Let it sit like a rib eye that needs a nap.

Pork floss doesn’t rehydrate very well. Try it at home.
Beef or pork jerky are much better if you want to rehydrate.

Thanks for the heads up! Sounds like I’ll be better off rehydrating the rice and veg separately and adding the pork floss right before eating.

It’s not an easy replacement for meat. It would be disgustingly salty to use the amount you’d need for a meal size portion of meat. Use it as a condiment/garnish only

I've been looking too. Someone said they found it at costco, but I have yet to see it in store or online.

You should be able to find it at an Asian supermarket! If you’re in Canada T&T has it

I grabbed some at our local Costco but have not yet opened the package nor tried it in any recipes, so I can confirm that at least one Costco carries it.

Where did you find it? I can't even find it on the online app.

It might be a special item not available at all stores or only available for a short time. This store was in Athens, Georgia. I don't know if it's in stock there now as I haven't been back through there in several months.

Wasn’t my favorite thing texture wise but give it a shot. I’ve seen some people praise it for backpacking meals so it’s probably more a personal preference.

I tried it once. It doesn’t rehydrate well. But more importantly check before you throw out the package if there are sesame seeds in there because when you see them float to the top of your meal you’re going to be having an intense debate with yourself both about whether they are big eggs and even if they are do you eat them (not determined and yes, for the record).

Are you talking about Chinese style pork floss? That is what I am more used to and this is an awesome trail meal - it’s shelf stable and no cooking/rehydrating is required. Typically it’s just added to rice porridge but you can really sprinkle it on anything, it is ready to eat as is. It’s usually seasoned with soy sauce and other spices already so bbq sauce might be overkill.
