Discussion Tabletop Roleplay is great for practicing your voice, but I looked everywhere and couldn't find a trans TTRPG community. Sooo I made one to see if maybe it's a niche desperately waiting to be filled like transvoices was all those years ago. Say hello to r/TransTTRPG

Discussion Now more than ever, remember they can never take away your voice.

They can't stop your vocal transition. They can't stop you from learning and practicing. They can't stop you from speaking up. Be loud. Be brave. I will keep fighting all my life, and so should you.

This affects the world, regardless of borders. There will be an election in Canada soon, and it's looking grim on our side as well. I'll be volunteering in an election for the first time, and I've gotten other people on board to join me. And I'll be protesting. And I'll be loud on social media.

Make your voices heard. Express yourself, not just your anger but your pain and your fear. Make them understand the consequences of their actions. I don't believe they all wanted this. Most of them just... didn't care or know enough to realize how much hurt their selfish vote would bring. Tell them. Make them know.

They can never take away your voice.

Criticism Wanted How to make voice less gravely? [FTM]

Any other tips would be appreciated too. I know I pass as male but other trans people have clocked me and outed me. That has put me in unsafe situations. I am almost always able to tell a man is transgender after I hear him speak because of this gravely quality, so I hope that changing my voice could stop me from being clocked. Thank you.

Discussion A note about people advertising their services here

Just a heads up about some videos from teachers out there that seek clients and post some questionable takes on voice training from time to time. They tend to block anyone who is "inconvenient" to them, so, I am going to write this comment just to make sure something is clear here: I would gladly comment on them and point out any misinformation that is being smuggled in and, I am sure, other people would too, but it's simply not possible. Unfortunately this is how reddit mechanics work - it's easy to turn any subreddit into an advertisement billboard and avoid any responsibility as to the content.

Also, if I am at it, I want to note something that irks my for years an years. I've noticed a pattern about a lot of those kind of teachers. 1) they seem to barely have any voice dysphoria (think that demonstrating what would be a dysphoric voice for other people is some fun party trick) and 2) they tend to have clearly above average anatomy for this (makes sense) but are the most aggressive proponents of pointing fingers at people and suggesting the usual points of "anatomy does not matter" and "no one needs surgeries," and so on, I think it's clear what I am talking about.

And, there's nothing wrong with #1 in itself (not everyone has dysphoria,) but, why on Earth do those people take over and want to lead the rhetoric on this subject matter and tell others what their realities are? I don't want those people to be some kind of a spokes people that narrate my problems to other people out there. They themselves clearly have not dealt with what is un unsurmountable barrier themselves and yet they somehow think they represent everyone else in this.

I haven't voice trained yet but I would like my voice a bit deeper and some advice on what I should aim to do? I have been messing around with my voice for many years even if not for MtF reasons so have decent control.

Question Giving Up - Surgery is last last hope

Been vocal training for a year and I simply can't get it. I go twice a week (one session 1 on 1, other in a group) and it just won't click. It's making me super depressed; I don't go out, I hate talking to people and I can't answer phone calls.

I feel like surgery is my only hope, but yesterday Mayo system denied my referral request from my primary doc, so I am going to have to go out of pocket and pay for everything myself.

Would prefer to stay within the US, so who did you go to, how much was it and would you reccomend them?

Question Im stuck (FTM)

I have tried to voice train in the past, but I keep getting stuck and I don't know how to continue. There's not much info on FTM voice training (I know it's just the opposite of MTF but it's not that easy to just do it in reverse), and it's hard to find anyone else doing it. Most info I do find is just "just get on T" which is not helpful at all... So I kinda just gave up. But I keep getting comments on my voice and I'm so tired of it, I just want to do something about it.

If I lower my pitch, my pitch just starts to waver, and when I asked around to figure out why that happens, people just said "idk that's weird", so I don't know what to do about it. And I don't understand how to increase vocal weight, I've looked at so much info and tried a lot of things but I still don't get it. The only thing I've figured out is darkening my voice but that just sounds stupid with the wrong pitch and vocal weight, so yeah I've been stuck unsure how to continue.

I've kinda just been assuming it's impossible to get further without T, but someone I talked to was really insistent that that's not true (despite saying they don't know much about FTM voice training, but I digress...), so I guess I'll give it another shot?

Does anyone have some advice?

hiiii i’m @ day 16 voice training. how do i sound? i voice trained inconsistently with no plan from aug - late sept. now i def hear progress from day 1, but im looking for feedback on where to go from here...

i struggle to not hear myself just a man putting on a voice. also i think i rely too much on validation from apps like genderfluent (i get these can have useful applications but also can be bs, i have brainworms) feel free to spill any tips on how to get over that. i have a decent ear for imitating pitch & the quality of voices too.

i did as relaxed of a voice as i can, something that isn't intense to keep up. tbf i recorded this late, so my voice is probably pretty tired as well. trying not to strain because i felt like the day before i was really starting to push my throat & vocal cords.

i notice inconsistencies when i slip out of a head to chest voice. keeping up a thinner resonance in my voice is hard too & is close to impossible in regular convo w others. i’m more consistent when i am alone (probably anxiety).

i have a pretty loud personality both pre-transition & now. i’m chatty and oftentimes speak passionately and i want my voice to still reflect that. i dont want something very quiet or overly breathy.

i wanna move towards a fem cis passing voice as much as i can. not please others, its just cause i find it affirming. i think its possible, but if not then i'll adjust best i can. i can maintain high pitch, okay-ish resonance. maybe my vocal weight is still too full? something still feels off to me. thanks ^-^

Discussion Voice training has been frustrating lately. Are there any natural sounding voice changers worth trying?

I have been practicing for a while, but lately I feel like I have hit a plateau. Sometimes I can get my voice closer to what I want during practice, but maintaining that sound in everyday conversations is still difficult.

It can be frustrating to feel like you are making progress but still struggle with how your voice sounds when talking to other people.

I am not planning to stop practicing, but I am curious whether there are any natural-sounding voice changers worth trying in the meantime.

Many tools I have seen seem to focus on changing pitch rather than making the overall voice sound natural.

Has anyone tried one that sounds convincing during real-time conversations or voice messages? I would appreciate hearing about your experiences.
