Opened dumpling squishies

I know these are all the rave, but this is just so trashy. Just because you want a certain squishy doesn't mean you open the boxes BEFORE purchasing them!! It's not fair to other people and the workers.

I counted 16 opened up squishies and I believe there might have been way more. Smh.

Literal landfill on its journey to the dump via some kids house until the next fad. What a waste

1

u/Olivares_ 13h ago

Awful chemical smell

9

u/Kindly-Instruction-1 16h ago

I'm all for it. fuck them. Blindboxes are the dumbest fucking thing.

4

u/Foobucket 21h ago

Were you just born yesterday? This has been happening since the dawn of time.

15

u/ththipydwnthastreet 23h ago

They couldn't sell these at my local kroger so they had bins full of them on sale for like $1. I bought two for my kids and they stink. Then I found out a bunch of them got recalled for some sort of choking hazard. 🤦‍♂️ needless to say they got canned pretty quickly.

3

u/stewdadrew 16h ago

I’m fairly sure there was also a news story about a child getting chemical burns from the ooze inside. So you probably dodged a very expensive and dangerous bullet there.

24

u/SchwarzerWerwolf 1d ago

...I never heard of this before. New trend?

11

u/Lilmexican26o 1d ago

Its been a huge trend, those n needos

3

u/SchwarzerWerwolf 1d ago

I feel old now.

2

u/mlove22 17h ago

It's soooo dumb though. I've seen people crying when they get the magical blue sparkle dumpling or whatever. Weird.

5

u/slimersnail 1d ago

Fetch me my beanie baby

41

u/mlstdrag0n 1d ago

We bought one, and got a shiny sparkly gold one.

But that stuff has a persistent chemical stink that simply won’t dissipate, so we threw it away.

No shiny is worth health issues later on

28

u/DJ-Foxbox 2d ago

The trashy part is the existence and sale towards kids 🤣

42

u/uwsdwfismyname 2d ago

The point of the product is to get kids hooked on gambling, if you're selling that shit you get what you get.

9

u/Routine_Flow9021 2d ago

That's good ole dollar tree

30

u/kushkitter 2d ago

When a toy is so popular it gets official purchase limits! Absolue madness.

59

u/aLittleDarkOne 3d ago

My 12 year old niece loves these, allegedly. Every time she buys one, she opens it, and gets disappointed. Yet she always wants more. I don’t get it.

58

u/longulus9 2d ago

they've introduced gambling to the children it's not that hard to understand. just zoom out a bit... all the blind boxes and pokemon rips are just tapping into the gambling addict, prize/reward system in all of us.

do what you will with this information, but don't say you weren't told.

7

u/aLittleDarkOne 2d ago

I completely agree but how does I tell said young person they are falling into predatory marketing without looking like a an idiot. It’s weirdly hard to tell kids what’s bad on the internet.

5

u/longulus9 2d ago

can't give you that answer as I don't have my own yet but if imagine that answer is going to be personal to each little one. but you gotta look at things for what they are not what their explained to be. buying blank pages with the hope of finding something rare is gambling.

31

u/wonkey92 3d ago

The kid lottery

19

u/xError404xx 3d ago

I thought the popularity was gone already? Its one of those useless blind boxes

-17

u/CompetitiveRub9780 3d ago

Never heard of them but now I must have one

32

u/weezyverse 3d ago

People just buy shit to buy shit...then complain they don't have shit cause the shit they bought isn't good for shit.

26

u/MostOriginalNameEver 3d ago

This crap has value..... Why?

5

u/BedeliaTheInkDemon19 3d ago

Not sure, but it's pretty dumb.

39

u/WhirledNews 4d ago

Is this the new labouboo or whatever?

31

u/_XxAphroditexX_ 4d ago

Yeah, these dumplings things are just like water? squishies, that got popular a few months ago. Adults have been buying them like crazy for a rare design and acting like they won a million dollars when they find it. I mean, over the top, screaming like they discovered a dead body, borderline assaulting people around them, all on camera. Obviously, it’s influencers doing this. Kids haven’t been able to find this stuff in stores for a good minute, bc all the adults were buying the entire package of these things just to unbox them. They either sold the ones they didn’t want for high prices, or just threw them in the garbage, brand new. Either way, they’re all so annoying.

19

u/Murlock_Holmes 3d ago

My kids bought one with their allowance.

My son’s popped a few days later. They are not good quality at all.

3

u/delta1810 3d ago

I thought the squishy dumplings trend was already a thing of the past but I guess not

17

u/Squishy_Boy 4d ago

I love a squishy dumpling.

7

u/furlonium1 4d ago

You and me both buddy

109

u/Ilvermourning 4d ago

These and other blind box items are just "intro to gambling" for kids. It's really gross.

15

u/Vaping_Panda 4d ago

I blame Pokemon.

4

u/Chiryou 3d ago

It's not even their fault. Those capsule machines man, those mess you up!

9

u/Eena-Rin 4d ago

Yeah, it's really predatory. I wish it wasn't allowed

60

u/Captain_Chorm 4d ago

I mean, if my kids wanted a specific color, I’m probably not going to buy 10 and hope there’s a red one.

This is just another silly-bands, beanie baby, furbie, tamagotchi, fingerlings, funko pops, etc. and a secondary market is just pump and dump applied to real life.

61

u/BlackMagic0 4d ago

Just do not buy any. Don't open them and be a jackass. Not that hard.

13

u/kk55622 4d ago

Childhood love of capitalism with some sprinkled in light gambling

23

u/frisbm3 4d ago

So you don't buy any. But you don't open them in the store.

22

u/condiments4u 4d ago

Wait.. tamagotchi were awesome. And they actually did something

8

u/Reefer4life 4d ago

They still are 🤘

8

u/stalchild_af 4d ago

I saw someone playing doom on one just yesterday. Reddit is a wonderful place.

63

u/alrk13 4d ago

Side note—if you wipe your camera lens off, your photos will probably look a lot better.

21

u/BedeliaTheInkDemon19 4d ago

I got a crappy phone, unfortunately. So even after wiping the lenses, it wont do much. I also got a broken lens on the primary camera. In all reality, I need to replace my phone, lol.

120

u/DontForgorTheMilk 4d ago

We're at that part of late stage capitalism that adults are going apeshit trying to get a special colored piece of plastic or whatever in order to sell them second hand.

90

u/SykeSwipe 4d ago

Child-oriented gambling is really what this stuff boils down to. My gf’s 8 year old understands that when I compare them to loot boxes.

39

u/Montanabioguy 4d ago

They're toxic too. So, everything about this is trashy. The literal trash being marketed to kids, the opening of said trash. All of it

72

u/IAmBeary 5d ago

wtf my daughter has one of these and after about 30m, she didnt give a shit about it anymore. Why are these so in demand?

9

u/Here_to_see_cats 4d ago

dopamine hit from gambling trying to get a rare

28

u/Afraid_Composer 5d ago

Toktok trend

5

u/Weak_Swimmer 5d ago

They aren't playing the corporate game of buying until you find the one you want. Broke people making ends meet. Kinda like the billionaires who need tax breaks. Doing the right thing is hardly the right thing to do anymore if you want to survive.

41

u/flatwoundsounds 5d ago

Making ends meet is buying the specific color squishy your kid demands? I'm all for making ends meet to feed your kids or keep them clean, but this is trashy behavior over cheap garbage toys.

-16

u/Weak_Swimmer 5d ago

No, it's not playable the game of excess consumerism. They don't want the suprise. If your kid is demanding a toy you failed as a parent. If you see the small things as trashy behavior, you may have failed yourself. Caring about the things that don't matter. Just breathe and let it go.

5

u/DinahKarwrek 4d ago

Naw. Imagine teaching children that they get anything they want, and should the 'Provider of Things' fail, expecting them to self eviscerate.

-3

u/Weak_Swimmer 4d ago

Your parents must have not loved you.

10

u/whyyoumadbrah 5d ago

What? Not playing the corporate consumerism game is to not buy it. It does not give you the right to be an asshole by opening up the packages.

-5

u/Weak_Swimmer 4d ago

I guess I should steal it. Stop being a consumer all together. Don't have to worry about rich people getting upset over dumplings. You guys idiots. I'll let them overcharge all they want and vote for their tax breaks. They deserve your money, all of it.

5

u/whyyoumadbrah 4d ago

Lmao are you a dumb bot or just some know it all that regurgitates some pseudo intellectual slop? I’d bet you yourself are a big consumer of the actual things you hate lmao. You using reddit is a great example. By using it, you literally are part of the consumer base you hate.

0

u/Weak_Swimmer 4d ago

In reality, most people are poor and oppressed. Limited number of people make 6 figures. I understand why people do what they do and don't judge them for it. People stop, point the finger, judge the situation, call people trashy, and post it. They want interaction to gain momentum on the thread. Us arguing about nothing helps support someone. Someone breaking open garbage labeled as product is still helping someone. Sure, couldn't sell it for retail price. BUT.. someone will receive a discounted toy that is still perfect. I get to burn some time, and so do you.

5

u/whyyoumadbrah 4d ago

I just glossed over your hypocritical bullshit, and you need some fcking help if you honestly believe half the shit you say.

1

u/Weak_Swimmer 4d ago

Lol, it's our future. The algorithm rules us all!!!

1

u/Weak_Swimmer 4d ago

Lmao, just bored at work. I get paid to chill.

6

u/whyyoumadbrah 4d ago

Yeah, definitely complicit as you probably get paid by some corporation too huh?

1

u/Weak_Swimmer 4d ago

Don't be jelly, just pay. My daughter wants one of those, just never gave into it. I pay into arts and crafts in many other ways. My tough times are just boredom. Spend time with your kids. Money is no issue.

4

u/whyyoumadbrah 4d ago

Didn’t you fcking say that if your kid is demanding toys, you failed as a parent? Why are you such a failure lmao

I've gotten a few of these free from my husband's work bc they can't resell. Trashy, indeed

14

u/JuggaloJedi187 5d ago

Same here. I got 6 of these containers. My kids played with them for like 2 days and now they're just collecting dust (and dog hair)

80

u/MagicPigeonToes 5d ago edited 5d ago

These look so stupid and low effort. At least Pokémon and labubu got actual artists behind them. Lore even. Wtf makes squishes interesting?

17

u/Hokulol 5d ago

They are produced cheap and sold to vendors for very little, with a potential for high mark up. Meaning every gas station in america picks them up, as they turn $0.25 into $5 every sale. The lore is viral tiktoks aimed at young children. Couple that with modern parents fixation on stimulation control as mood management, and they fly off the shelves.

100

u/BenevolentCheese 5d ago

What is also trashy is putting every fucking consumer item in a blind box so you can never buy what you actually want and have to churn through piles of intentional junk to actually get the thing you were trying to spend money on.

-10

u/Pobueo 5d ago

Dude it's a fucking toy. You're talking like they're selling meat in a blind box and you have to buy 20 of them if you want a chance of ribeye.

I will never feel sorry for someone going out of their way to purchase bullshit like this then go and complain, you knew what you were getting yourself into.

Tf ur talking about saying "the thing you were trying to spend money on" Dude it's a different color of the same shit

0

u/PureResolve649 4d ago

Tell me you don’t have kids, without telling me.

-1

u/Pobueo 3d ago

Tell me you're raising dopamine hit-addicted-slop-lover-doomscrollers without telling me

14

u/BenevolentCheese 5d ago

You're talking like they're selling meat in a blind box and you have to buy 20 of them if you want a chance of ribeye.

Now we're talkin

1

u/ysoloud 4d ago

I promise this happens before 2030

8

u/Jumajuce 5d ago

Blind box barbecue packs sound kind of fun if a local butcher did it and it had everything you need for whatever was inside. I'd probably buy one for the fun of it.

4

u/Hokulol 5d ago

Ya my grocery store has random bags and they are always awesome lol

12

u/TruthorTroll 5d ago

I tend to look at the people who purchase these in the same regard as those who enjoy lottery tickets. It's just gambling

7

u/Hokulol 5d ago

I don't know man, it's a simple toy. I understand the collectible unboxing dopamine side of things. But if I was buying a squishy for my son, I'd want to be able to pick the color. But it probably is part of their popularity, in a weird way. It gives it collector vibes.

Don't get me wrong, it makes sense with pokemon cards or that sort of thing. But we weren't blind unboxing beanie babies.

1

u/ABC_Zombie 5d ago

Why does it make more sense with pokemon cards? I think it just makes sense because we are used to it. It's equally dumb with any product, they just do it for bigger profits.

I think everyone should open boxes in the store and find the toy they want before purchase so companies stop doing this shit.

1

u/Hokulol 5d ago edited 5d ago

Half of the part of the hobby of pokemon is collecting rarely printed cards. There are no rare squish dumplings. You just cannot control the color you are getting. Whether or not rare collectibles being blind pack makes sense to you, common print toys restricting color selection makes less sense.

There are also licensed vendors that sell retail single pokemon cards, local game shops. There is no one approved to sell single squish dumplings. You can't go to your local squishy store and get the blue one. All retail sales are blind boxed.

-4

u/ABC_Zombie 5d ago

But why? Why does it make sense to have rare pokemon cards more than rare squishy toys? They are both equally valid in having rare versions.

2

u/JDSmagic 5d ago

Do you think the same of within the games themselves? "Why does it make sense for shinies to be rarer than regular mons! It doesn't make sense! And why can't I catch Groudon as many times as I can catch Pidgey??"

Like, I think Pokémon cards are somewhat predatory and I certainly never got into them, but I can pretty easily see the case as for why it makes sense for some cards to be rare. Collecting rare stuff is like half the appeal of the Pokémon games, and the cards follow that format

2

u/Hokulol 5d ago

There are no rare versions of the squishes. You just simply cannot choose the color you get.

-2

u/ABC_Zombie 5d ago

That's not what I asked

0

u/Hokulol 5d ago

Yes, the point is what you asked doesn't make sense, doesn't follow the train of conversation and isn't relevant, because there aren't rare versions of the squishes. lol.

If there were rare squishes, it would make more sense, or at least equal sense as pokemon. There aren't.

1

u/ABC_Zombie 5d ago

There are different rarities for different squishies... They don't publish their drop rates but there are websites dedicated to estimating the drop rates. They are not the same as each other, so some are more rare than others.

1

u/wowfan400 5d ago

Where’s the potential for profit though? Silly bands stopped being cool like 3 days after I got a few, that was the last time I chased a fad and I still feel scammed

55

u/embunny1513 5d ago

I hate people, they’re so fucking stupid

87

u/daaave33 5d ago

People sure lose their minds these days for some stupid marketed shit.

3

u/SheZowRaisedByWolves 5d ago

I remember the TikToks of people breaking down in their cars over not getting one of the glitter dumplings

30

u/drone42 5d ago

These days? Tickle Me Elmo, Beanie Babies... there's a whole litany of shit people went nuts for before now and before even back then.

1

u/Hokulol 5d ago

Don't besmirch beanie babies.

5

u/disneylovesme 5d ago

At least you knew what you were getting, the added element of surprise and the need to have a complete set or mystery colorway has taken this all to a new height.

2

u/BenevolentCheese 5d ago

My son was playing with my 30+ year old tickle me elmo the other day, somehow that thing still works perfectly.

2

u/Hokulol 5d ago

I thought this said your 30 year old son was playing with a tickle me elmo, and I was like, my condolences. lol

2

u/BenevolentCheese 5d ago

Hell I'm 42 and I was having a blast tickling that little red fucker

2

u/radhaz 5d ago

You're not wrong.

There's levels to rampant consumerism though and the Xmas must have gifts in the past seem like where this started but now its every month/week.

We're evolving into the most pliable society which makes us the ultimate consumers for the corporations shit.

3

u/daaave33 5d ago

I guess the fucking starbucks water bottle, and McDonalds toys are fresh in my mind as worse, but you have a point. Themz Cabbage Patch shits hit hard.

3

u/TrapLordEsskeetit 5d ago

I'm not disagreeing, but these seem to be on a new level. It's something you squish meant to look like a colored dumpling. Like.... that is a hell of a sentence. 🤣

5

u/SadAwkwardTurtle 5d ago

It reminds me of the Silly bands craze. People were fighting over shaped rubber bands to the point that my school banned them.

4

u/Blarg0117 5d ago

So far back, 1600's Tulip Mania.

17

u/spodinielri0 5d ago

Damn! Until the last photo, I thought these were a disgusting food choice

23

u/dragongrl 5d ago

I'm sorry, but buying something and not knowing what you're getting is the stupidest fucking thing ever.

Open all the boxes.

16

u/FartingRaspberry 5d ago

They're basically loot boxes and marketed towards children. Legal gambling to get them hooked early.

48

u/Joe1972 5d ago

Here I disagree with OP. Its TRASHY to sell a product where consumers don't get to know whats inside. So serves everyone right to have kids opening them. In fact, I think the law should allow anyone buying one of them to return it to the store if the contents were not the one they wanted. I'm tired of the entire world being enshityfied to squeeze more money out of consumers

11

u/DarthNarcissa 5d ago

I hate blind boxes/bags with a fiery passion. There should be a way for people to find out what's inside before they open it. Back during the height of the My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic craze, they released blind bag mini pony figures. Each bag had a number stamped in the top seal. Someone figured out which figure corresponded with which number and made a chart. Not sure if Hasbro intended for people to figure it out, but it was handy. That was back in 2011 when blind bags/boxes weren't that popular. Fat chance of having a system like that now for newer blind boxes.

16

u/BedeliaTheInkDemon19 5d ago

I'm actually gonna agree with you! I never really thought outside the box, they should be displayed so kids know where they're getting. The mystery part is fun for a minute, sure, but it ends up trashy in the end if kids don't get what they want.

5

u/Hegiman 5d ago

There’s nothing worse as a parent than getting your kid a present for being good and then they are disappointed because their classmate got the shiny sparkles unicorn horn version and they got a basic.
Blind boxes are gambling for kids period.

2

u/disneylovesme 5d ago

It’s also not the kids but adults losing their minds more

1

u/Hegiman 5d ago

Yeah I agree it’s the “adults” doing stuff like this for the most part but I’ve seen kids do it too but they get it from somewhere. That said I just hate that blind bags are promoting gambling to children. What’s the difference between a blind bag and a pull the lever and see what you win? I can guarantee a cash prize for every play and if every play is 25¢ I pay .05¢ cash prize for 99% of winners and 1% win greater than the minimum but few win the big prize. As long as someone wins the big prize once people will believe they too can win and keep playing even if the odds of coming out ahead are 1:100 so as long as they see me kid even on YouTube with the super elite ultra rare one (likely given to the influencer by the company) then they’ll believe they can get it and become a parents worst nightmare. My grandkid has gotten better but man I feel for parents who have to deal with this stuff

9

u/wealy 5d ago

I wholeheartedly agree. Whoever decided to gamify purchasing like this is an asshole. But my kids think I’m the asshole because I won’t let them participate in this nonsense.

I actually may switch my position and let them find the one they want at the store…

2

u/chriswimmer 5d ago

Me too, Joe. It's time to talk about responsible wealth.

16

u/zoley88 5d ago

Is this still a thing? I thougth the idiotic hype went down

5

u/BedeliaTheInkDemon19 5d ago

Nope, it's still a hype unfortunately.

3

u/Hegiman 5d ago

Yep have 3rd grader can confirm still hype.

67

u/dazzle999 5d ago

They got banned in the EU because the gel inside contains material giving kids cancer....

13

u/QuarterLifeCircus 5d ago

Lots of squishes have been recalled by the Consumer Product Safety Commission. The problem is once it’s recalled the drop shipper overseas just changes the business name and imports it again. And repeat when they are recalled again.

20

u/Rosary_Omen 5d ago

I know some kids are getting burns and shit from them :(

3

u/disneylovesme 5d ago

Did they microwave it? 🫩

1

u/Rosary_Omen 4d ago

No idea, I've just hear tales about it all. They might be? But from memory it was the cheap Temu ones

12

u/MrMiniMite 5d ago

Got a source for this? I don't think this is true. Squishies are very much still available in the EU. If they have the CE stamp, they are legal.

3

u/Dan_Glebitz 5d ago

China Puts the CE stamp on just about everything they turn out. I sure would not trust a CE stamp.

I am not saying squishies are NOT safe, just that I would not trust a CE stamp.

21

u/reneetjeheineken 5d ago

We still have them everywhere in the Netherlands, so not all of the EU i guess. Got deemed non-toxic or harmfull by officials. Dutch article about it added

https://nos.nl/artikel/2632311-populaire-squishy-dumplings-niet-gevaarlijk-zegt-toezichthouder

-6

u/dazzle999 5d ago

Prolly just stores dumping out their left over stock

52

u/Readyman2627 5d ago

Squishes. I have two kids. Fuck that word. I hear it like 10 times a day. It’s madness.

199

u/bleeding_gums 5d ago

Blind boxes and loot boxes for kids and adults should be banned.

Including MTG, Pokemon, Lego, whatever.

Ban all of them.

2

u/disneylovesme 5d ago

Critical strike is a large one no one talks about as a gambling epidemic for… in game guns and outfits 💀

3

u/jmarFTL 5d ago

Or, you know, don't buy them rather than seek a ban on something millions enjoy because you personally don't like it.

6

u/Trifuser 5d ago

At least the blind lego boxes have an app that doesnt make them blind anymore instead of having to rip the box open to see who is inside.

2

u/Jacktheforkie 5d ago

Only blind boxes im ok with is ones in games that are exclusively gained using in game currency that can be earned by playing, for example the crates in CMS21

26

u/AgenderAxolotl 5d ago

Honestly I really HATE blind boxes, it's literally a form of gambling, and the marketers KNOW this. They put the high value item behind chance, and each opening of one of these things gives you a chance of getting the thing you really want.

And if you get the thing you want? Dopamine hit, if not: You seek out that dopamine hit and try again (is what it seems to do for neurotypicals, I'm neurodivergent and it doesn't do that in me, if I don't get the one in the first one: my brains like this is awful I'm not doing this again. And mean it)

It's built into the system, they get more likely repeat customers seeking that thing they really want this way.

It's infuriating that everything is fucking blind boxes these days. Like I just want the thing and not have to spend so much. Especially when for some of these they can start at $20 to $30 a box like OH MY GOD..

4

u/kadkadkad 5d ago

It's a really wasteful way to sell toys! We took our kids to the toy shop at the weekend and I had to tell the staff that every single blind bag from a certain display had been ripped open and discarded, obviously because people were looking for a particular toy. She said it happens ALL the time, and that they can still sell them at a heavily discounted price, but as they'd already been rejected, it's more likely no one will want them anyway.

Blind bags need to be banned!

25

u/MurenaMike 5d ago

It's no secret that LEGO minifigures actually show you what's inside. You just have to scan the QR code on the bottom of the packaging with the proper app. So that one is an outlier.

22

u/Noble_Flatulence 5d ago

Just put the picture on the fucking box, no one should need a special app that does nothing other than tell you what's in the package. It's not that difficult of a concept.

51

u/bender-fender 5d ago

MTG doesn’t have this problem. Keep us out of this, let us play our nerdy game that’s out of scalpers attention in peace.

16

u/OGChemBreath 5d ago

Yeah and we actually play the game!

19

u/Wylaff 5d ago

MYG players buy the shittiest most damaged version of a card they can find. They are not a part of this.

Do not taunt Happy Fun Ball.

Most of it will absorb into your bloodstream as you play with it.

Its going to collect all the dirt and hairs aswell

This has to be some reverse phycology like some dingbat ordered a pallet of squishy instead of squid and vegetable right?

Come get them while you can!

Limit 5 per customer. The are marketing it like it's the Stuff or something like that.

Reverse phycology is when algae studies you

9

u/AdrianaLaServing 5d ago

It’s how they do it in Soviet Russia

2

u/alexisgreat420 5d ago

That’s the secret- they always have been

u/richniss 5d ago

People realize these things wont last and wont hold value right? They're cheaply made and filled with toxic chemicals.

-14

u/drivebyjustin 5d ago

Kids like them. It’s not that deep, man. No one is “squishy hunting” thinking they’re getting resale value.

10

u/Wizzle_Pizzle_420 5d ago

Yes they are my dude. It’s gross.

7

u/DramaOnDisplay 5d ago

No, if anything it’s a mixture of children who want the golden one or whatever is the most rare because they see it plastered on every other TikTok reel, and adults who want to find the ultra rare ones to re-sale them to desperate parents. It’s not some cute little kids with Pokemon cards like in the 90’s. This shit is crazy now. It’s FOMO or money motivated.

7

u/iHaveACatDog 5d ago

Maybe not hunting but I did watch a clip of a guy that's currently stuck with thousands of boxes of fidget spinners because he thought he was going to capitalize on the rage.

19

u/CantSyopaGyorg 5d ago

Right, that's why there's piles of opened ones left around, and a sign limiting to a purchase max of 5

Definitely not because gambling-addicted adults are vandalizing the display for the super rare one or buying them in bulk for the miracle drop

It's because the kids like them :)

u/drivebyjustin 5d ago

My 9 year old and her friends love them. I have not heard one thing about buying them aftermarket for rares or whatever. If adults are buying them they’re just weirdos.

20

u/Reinheitsgetoot 5d ago

Got one for my daughter years ago when they first came out before all this nonsense. It turned out to be the “super limited” golden one and it looked pretty cool but it immediately broke after 1 whole day of very minimal play. Doubt they’ve gotten any more durable.

27

u/capt_minorwaste 5d ago

It's a sickness. I have a friend who struggles to pay her bills but goes out of her way to needoh and squishy hunt all over the city. I don't get it.

1

u/richniss 4d ago

I remember seeing these on the shelves and nobody wanted them. It's just wild what a little social media does to people.

19

u/Pumpnethyl 5d ago

What do you mean?? I’m waiting for the Beanie Baby comeback. I’m going to be rich!

2

u/Legitimate-Gangster 5d ago

My parents are putting me through college with Beanie Babies! I am 36 but once the market booms I am going to be so smart!

6

u/BedeliaTheInkDemon19 5d ago

They'll probably realize far too late and regret it, but that'll be an issue for them to go through on their own.

2

u/Dead_Hours 5d ago

Same people that were hoarding toilet paper

21

u/Thor3nce 5d ago

This is stupid since you can just check the color by looking under the label from the bottom. I wouldn’t be surprised if stores already did this.

All of humanity in a nutshell

Nutshell isn’t big enough

4

u/BedeliaTheInkDemon19 5d ago

Valid argument, and it's gross to think about.

6

u/bickspickle 5d ago

I am going to suggest that it is likely

25

u/MoeSzyslakMonobrow 5d ago

Those are definitely the knockoffs that smell like gasoline.

10

u/BedeliaTheInkDemon19 5d ago

Funny enough, they kinda did. The whole store did actually. They were being sold in a full fledged farm store in a kids toy section.

8

u/SilentEarthThree 5d ago

Good ol Rural King lol

5

u/BedeliaTheInkDemon19 5d ago

Fr, lol! Was the sign design that recognizable? Cause you are correct.

1

u/SilentEarthThree 5d ago

Haha yeah, I'm always in there getting stuff.

9

u/Anableps4 5d ago

On the one hand, most people (especially in crowds) act like garbage. On the other, why should we care if the store doesn't? Shop somewhere else or stop consuming this crap

13

u/Gallusaur 5d ago

I thought they said the juice in these is poisonous?

2

u/foodgoesinryan 5d ago

Wait, we can’t drink it??

13

u/wertklern 5d ago

Toxic benzene exposure

37

u/iloveurbumbum 5d ago

This gambling blindbox shit for kids is so dystopian. Maybe I'm just old but pokemon cards didn't feel this predatory, I can't explain the difference so maybe I'm a hypocrite but these feels worse somehow.

6

u/Neiliobob 5d ago

I mean, every "arcade" you see is just a little casino for kids.
