Powderfinger Tour Openers
With the powderfinger tour now announced and all dates having their first presale, are we expecting any openers? If so who would you like to see open/who do you expect to open? Or are we expecting no openers?

Another Brissy band, similar style of music. Tent style set up which would be great for their sound

Also the lead singer toured with Bernard Fanning solo on his Tea And Sympathy outing

Ball Park Music are likely bc they followed the Electric Horsemen account before the official announcement.
I have a feeling they'll have two openers in each city, one well known name across every date (potentially Ball Park Music), and then another local band in each city.

They should go full circle and have Pantera as a support act.

Did powderfinger open for pantera? That would be hilarious.

They did around about 1994 and they got booed and stuff thrown at them lol

That’s crazy. Surely they could have gotten mortal sin or some other Aussie metal band that was around at the time that was a better fit.

I reckon it will vary city to city.
Ballpark
Eskimo Joe
Slowly Slowly
Something For Kate
Spiderbait
Teenage Joans
... to name a few possibilities

Slowly would be amazing. They cover both the indie style and the rockish style that I think would resonate with many Powderfinger fans

Both teenage Joans and slowly slowly is so random haha the rest is way more fitting, maybe even the rions or other similar music genres

Seen them recently still so good and so much energy for blokes in their mid 50s

Keep it all Brisbane bands! I’d vote for Regurgitator, Custard, The Butterfly Effect, or Butterfingers!

I reckon there'll be a nation-wide support then a local support for each venue as well. Thinking Something For Kate or Ball Park as the main support, then possibly acts like Southern River Band.

Give me Grinspoon or The Living End!! But I feel like it might be newer or less popular aussie bands

For the price, there better be some quality support acts!
Would be brilliant to see some other Aussie legends like Something for Kate or The Drones, plus a young local outfit.

I would like there to be at least 2, hopefully 3 local australian bands supporting!

I'd love to see Sleepazoid or The Pretty Littles as a local opener for Melb

Silverchair

If there was any chance of that it would have been announced with Powderfinger as a co-headliner and tickets would have been even harder to get

I would say Ball Park as main support and Spacey Jane & Mallrat as they are both Dew Process acts.

Would like to see at least 2. Maybe one like a BPM or similar, then maybe another local up and coming band that is city specific

The best young band in the local area, plus a tour band on there way up. Don't buy into the nostalgia fest

It's going to be BPM for sure considering who Bernard had as his opening act for his solos

Silverchair would honestly be the play here. God damn.
3
u/burdnt_out 3d ago
Silverchair would not be a support for Powderfinger, they would at the very least trade headline spots, but realistically, silverchair would be the main act.

u/Brightredhair 3d ago
They did this with the ‘Across the Great Divide’ tour, they took turns at opening each night.

u/Flowercloud88 3d ago
^ this, it would be a co-headliner like how NIN and QOTSA did their double-header tour

They’ve confirmed in the initial announcement that it will be an all Australian lineup, including a special announcement in November as part of Aus Music Month.
I’d like Ball Park Music and Something For Kate.
