Based on that reaction, get a practice mute. It won't be as free-flowing as playing, uh, without protection, but it may reduce friction at home.

always wear protection on your trumpet at home and don't forget to pull it out after use

Whenever I buy something I shouldnāt have (which Iām working on), Iāll say, āat least itās not drugs.ā

Maybe some crack-heads come home telling their mom : "at least it's not a trumpet".

Same problem, I love the instrument, wanted to learn. My wife can't handle it. I switched to guitar but in my heart I still prefer the trumpet. A practice mute all the time isn't good. Finding a good spot to practice is half the battle.

My wife isn't as understanding as my mom, I got tired of practicing in the car at night in the middle of nowhere, so I made myself a soundproof box whitj a hole for the bell, it sits on a shelf for home practice. I even made a Youtube video about, I don't know if I'm allowed to share it here: https://youtu.be/DbWOFdR0Bv4?is=P9MSySLkTtUdJtk5 Otherwise, out of the many mutes I tried, as I said to OP, I found that the "Ssshmute whisper" was the best compromise, although not technically a practice mute, it makes the trumpet a LOT more neighbor-friendly without the stuffy feeling of true practice mutes.

Same reaction from my mom when I got a motorcycle and when I dyed my hair blue. She never minded the trumpet, though; she coerced me into practicing every day.
You might want a mute to ease things. If you're looking for a quiet mute with less back pressure than a full practice mute, I recommend the "Ssshmute Whisper." It sounds like a jazz mute, only quieter, and it feels very open. It'd make a great Christmas gift from your mom.

Not at all. She dosent want me spending too much of my money as I just spent a considerable amount on a new guitar for my major

I donāt think sheās mad at him merely for pursuing a hobby, just cause trumpets cost like 5 grand

I have many trumpets and cornets. Most cost me under $20 and they all play.

Eh, itās pretty understandable

When I have kids I will continuously shower them with educational opportunies, such as instruments. Disgusting viewpoint on something so inexpensive.

Iām pretty sure it was about the noise. Iām glad my parents put up with years of my loud, blatty, out-of-tune playing but I am sure it was annoying.
Itās not like the mom was forcing them to return it or anything, but I think itās reasonable for her to exaggerate being annoyed.
Anyway, hundreds of dollars is not inexpensive š

Are you serious???!!! Your mom would prevent you from having/ learning an instrument for a few $??? It's not an expensive thing. Learn something. She doesn't want to hear the noise or something?
I'm blown away. My parents ALWAYS supported my educational interests.
I'm sorry for you. Get out the instant you can.
Edit: To add, We are NOT A WEALTHY FAMILY.

Sweet pickup! You're gonna need a new spit valve though!
