Equipment ⚙️ Mouthpiece recommendations

Hi all. I currently play Bb on a Bach Artisan 3C. I’m very happy with it and use it in all around playing. My main Bb horns are a strad (ML) and a Selmer Radial (L).

I’m struggling a bit with my C horn, a 229 in large bore. Range is a bit clipped and playing the horn feels a bit forced.

Looking to get into a Stork model, definitely for the C and perhaps with the Bb horns as well.

Any recommendations are appreciated.

John and Phyllis Stork have been in the mouthpiece manufacturing game for decades. Our local University trumpet head is a Yamaha endorsing artist but plays Stork mouthpieces. I would try calling them up, explain your equipment, what you like, what you don't like and even prepare to do some playing and see what they say. Maybe they have something off the shelf that would work for you. Maybe they do a custom job for you. By the way, they offer some sweet engravings just for decoration but they look pretty darn cool

It sounds like a Gap issue to me. Try measuring the mouthpiece gap difference between the horns, then get a slightly shorter or longer shank mouthpiece. We are talking a less than 2mm difference. Have you tried Stomvi mouthpieces? They have something different that worked for me beautifully

My recommendation is to go to a place where you can test them, and play them for yourself, and don't listen to other people's Mpc recommendations. You will only learn what works for them, and not what works for you. Additionally, if Thomann is an option where you live, this is a good option. They have a 30 day money back policy. Even on mouthpieces! I have done it a few times. Bought a piece tried other, and sent or back for a full refund. I put a piece of tape around the shank to avoid insertion marks, and you're good to go. Best of lucknin finding a mouthpiece that works for YOU!
