What grade were you in, before you had your first Black teacher? [Serious]
 in  r/AskReddit •  2d ago

I am 62 years old with "some college" as they say. I never had a teacher of any color but white ☹️

Edit to add that my daughter, now 40, had her first of several teachers that were not white in 2nd grade. My granddaughter, now 17, had her first in kindergarten. Times changed, thank goodness.

I hid my full inheritance from everyone and I’m still not telling…..

You are absolutely doing it the right way! Your grandfather knew what he was doing when he left you the money. Enjoy your life. That is a gift to your grandfather!

Did you ever get a Life Savers book for Christmas? What was your favorite flavor?
 in  r/GenerationX •  10d ago

My brother and I got one every year. Hands down, butterscotch 😋

A random piece of wisdom
 in  r/WorkForSmartLife •  16d ago

I started when I was 23 with $10 a payday ($20 a month). Mainly to get my nagging mother off my back. I put it in a secondary retirement account and everytime I got a raise. I put a few more dollars a month in. I retired at 54 after 30 years on a government job (IT).

Thanks mom!

Don't "should" all over yourself. Do what is right for you without willfully hurting others.

And

Be careful what you're good at because you will be stuck doing that thing.

Gems from my silent generation mother who passed recently. The second one she said to me when I said I couldn't understand why I wasn't getting promoted. I do EVERYTHING in my department. She said that was the problem. I started slowly not doing it all. First, I was less stressed and within 2 years I was promoted. Promoted twice more before I retired. I miss my mom.

Mid ‘70s “collector” glass
 in  r/GenerationJones •  16d ago

My in-laws still have and use a whole set of these Looney Tunes glasses. Don't get me started on the huge bobble head collection they have. All sports related.

I consider old people "future dead people" and anyone born in or after 1960 are more likely to be "future immortals."
 in  r/TellReddit •  16d ago

I was born in 1964. Still future dead person. I may live longer than my parents, but still gonna be dead eventually.

And, honestly, my dad was 94 and my mom was 86 when they died. So I feel I have a good chance of living another 20 or 25 years (I'm in good health).

My Manager Broke Down Crying When I Gave My Two Weeks' Notice
 in  r/InterviewVip •  18d ago

My immediate supervisor never spoke directly to me after I put in my retirement papers. I worked for 3 weeks after I put the papers in. I kid you not, he would talk to one of my coworkers and have them come to me. "Jerry needs this or that." I'd send what he needed directly to him. It was comical.

What’s something your parents would never get grocery shopping that’s become a staple now that you’re older?
 in  r/GenX •  21d ago

My leftover hobbies from Covid lockdown is I still make my own peanut butter, jam, and sandwich bread 🤣

Real butter, fresh or frozen vegetables. We had margarine and canned vegetables only.

Should I quit after my manager blocked my internal transfer because I'm "too valuable" to replace?
 in  r/careerguidance •  23d ago

Yes. When my supervisor blocked my transfer (because he was awful) I put in my 2 week notice. When asked by HR why? I told him that I was told I couldn't transfer to another department and I didn't want to stay in a place where I couldn't grow. Wouldn't you know, I was offered the transfer I wanted. More money didn't come for 6 months but that's not why I wanted out.

🕒 If a mysterious billionaire gave you exactly twenty-four hours to blow a million dollars without saving any of it, what is the plan?

I'd buy a small modest house in Southern California. Actually, that might not be enough money 🤔

Getting set in your ways
 in  r/GenerationJones •  28d ago

I agree. I'm more forgiving and much more patient. I'm happy where I am in life and not having to go to work everyday is much of the reason. I feel bad for people having a bad day at work. Been there.

That said, I have decided to not give businesses a second chance if I get really terrible service. But I would never berate a worker.

It’s September 14, 1984. You get one movie ticket. What are you seeing?

Because it was tasty 😋

Why does being the "reliable" worker always end up killing your career growth?
 in  r/careerguidance •  Sep 11 '26

My mother always told me, "Be careful what you're good at because that is where you'll stay." She was absolutely correct!!

Do you eat corn on the cob like a lathe or typewriter?

I cut it off the cob and eat it in chunks with lots of butter 😋

You really didn't need to post this. Sooooo many people already have it memorized and are actively incorporating each step in their air travel routine.
