Experience the world of the Guns of Pawgust in these steps.
Start by selecting an anthropomorphic animal to play as. Each has their strengths, weaknesses, elemental affinities, abilities, and unique skillsets. You can also learn about the lore and history of their people.
Each has their own archetype (for example, the wolf is the soldier), but they can perform in any of the other roles. How well they do depends on skill point allocation and gear.
Possible choices include:

The different animals have different weapon preferences and excel in different styles.
Weight classes also affect playstyle. Large animals are generally tougher, but less maneuverable, making them easier targets. Small animals are generally faster and better at burst damage but tend to be glass cannons.
To further complement their styles, the animals have elemental affinities, spiritual powers, and unique skills.
List of Archetypes and Elemental Effects can be found on the main Substack article.

The world is shaped by rich lore and history. Learn about it as you fight to save it! The Aldrakhanian Civil War, and other conflicts, did not take place in a vacuum.
Weapons, equipment, and skills usually have their own origin stories, from service rifles to legendary swords.
To some extent, everything is connected. It's a mess, and the best fictional worlds usually are.
Well... sort of save the world, anyway. Take part in the Aldrakhanian Civil War, during the twilight of the Aldrakhanian regime. Participate in battle after battle as you make your way to secure the city of High Aldrakhania, the greatest city built by mortals.
The Battle for High Aldrakhania is pivotal, as the world is at a fork in the road. Old sins were committed in that city. Shadowy figures are watching, seeking to hold on to power at any cost. The key to saving the world lies in holding that city, for if it falls into the wrong hands, a much darker future awaits.
It began with the fall of Khaibarat, the jewel of the southern seas... now, you will play a part in shaping the course of history.
During their reign, the House of Aldrakhan silenced dissent and mismanaged the realm. However, they did keep dangerous individuals in check. Now that the regime is falling, such threats are emboldened, and new factions are rising to fill in the power vacuum. To secure the city, you will need to contend with these rogue forces.
Battle against threats such as:

As you find your place in the world, your power will only grow, potentially to the point of demigod-level. Bring forth thunderstorms to devastate the battlefield. Call upon the spirits of the ancestors to bolster your resolve. Overwhelm opponents with supernatural speed.
However, anticipate opponents who have awakened similar powers.
These powers may hold the key to saving the world or hastening its destruction.
I ultimately aim to make a game series featuring this content and am looking for support. I will continue to write about the lore and the world. Help me to build a community, to show local gatekeepers that there is interest in the project.
My goal is to revitalize the creative industry and contribute to animal welfare.

Dangerous unit in the Guns of Pawgust setting: Aldrakhanian assassin (lions).
Assassins and rogue type units are dangerous as they can quickly move among the enemy force to wreak havoc. The big cats (also called Lyonesseans in world) are especially dangerous because of their inherent strength and agility. In contrast, rogue type units from other species are usually smaller, lacking raw toughness, thus require an escape plan as they are vulnerable in the thick of the fight.
Background:
Aldrakhania is the foremost empire in the world and a major antagonist. It is ruled by the lion dynasty, the House of Aldrakhan.
The assassins serve as loyal bodyguards or operatives to eliminate threats. They are even more devoted to the regime than the Aldrakhanian Royal Guard Corps, as they hail from the ruling dynasty or are closely related.
If the king or another important member of the house is in public, these assassins are often close by, watching in the shadows for threats.
Fighting Style:
They are adept at sustained invisibility (sorcery) and dealing high critical damage. Unsurprisingly, the big cats are among the stealthiest fighters in the setting.
...
The setting is about the age of industrialization, anthropomorphic animal society, and how the different peoples adapt. The new destructive capabilities facilitated by technology has complicated the existing tensions in the world, and war looms on the horizon. Supernatural abilities and threats exist in the world, including demons and the eldritch spawn of Yaldabaoth (horrors from beyond the stars). People who are skilled in the use of supernatural abilities are called sorcerers.
There's a focus on geopolitics, the fictional cultures, and fictional firearms. The tagline is, "age of the machine: will it bring order or chaos?"
There's a story, but I'm not 100% confident in writing it, so I'm doing worldbuilding which I think is my strength.
I intend to write out my lore on Substack: Karl Imran | Substack
I also write down weird and random ideas in the Notes.

Assassins in the Guns of Pawgust are generally dangerous, though the Aldrakhanian assassins are especially notable.
Traditionally, they're lions so they're naturally lethal. Most of the rogue type units lack raw toughness, so they need an escape plan after causing havoc among enemy forces. The big cats (also called Lyonesseans in setting), however, are adept at close-quarters combat, and can overpower most opponents due to their innate strength and agility. Furthermore, they can utilize sustained invisibility and deal high critical damage.
These lethal fighters serve the House of Aldrakhan, either as operatives in eliminating threats or as bodyguards.
The House of Aldrakhan is the dynasty that rules Aldrakhania, the foremost empire in the world and a major antagonist.

Coyotes sit everywhere; foxes sit in designated places.
Walk through Boneyard City and you'll often see coyotes sitting along the road, on the edges of drains, and on steps. They'll be talking or drinking coffee from flasks.
Foxes don't do that, or so they say. "You'll only see coyotes sitting everywhere." Foxes are more dignified.

Depicted is a coyote from the Inquisitor order of Aldrakhania, a rare sight.
While the coyotes are known for their resistance against the empire of Aldrakhania, some accepted its rule. The coyotes eventually repelled the Aldrakhanian invaders in the Coyote Reconquista. Even so, some coyotes remained part of the empire.
As such, some coyotes later joined the ranks of the Aldrakhanian Inquisitors, which is basically an elite police force. As mentioned, they are very rare, with many unaware of them.
Background
Aldrakhania is a major antagonist in the setting, ruled by a lion dynasty (the House of Aldrakhan).
The Inquisitor order was established by the regime to balance the power of the Aldrakhanian Royal Guard corps. The Inquisitors recruit from the working class, while the royal guards originate from the nobility. The nobility was powerful enough to challenge the regime, hence the need for balance of power. Understandably, the two branches don't get along, and the regime is fine with this arrangement.
The Inquisitors have a more diverse skillset than their royal guard counterparts, and are more willing to adapt to new technology and ideas. The royal guards don't like them, though, considering them commoners.
Curved swords are native to the region, but the regime and its enforcers tend to use straight swords as symbols of legitimacy. This practice stems from the ruling House of Aldrakhan wielding a straight-bladed weapon called the Dragon Rider's Spear, looted from a conquered city, known as the greatest built by mortals.
Unlike the Royal Guards, the Inquisitors associate more with the general population, rather than with the regime.
Fighting Style
The Inquisitors embrace the use of technology to fight against threats. They conduct their own research and development, disproving the notion that Aldrakhania doesn't innovate. They use grenades for a variety of effects, such as smoke screens and piercing armor.
The Royal Guards, meanwhile, are all about the warrior's spirit and valor, and are trained to use Aether in combat, regarded as holy fire.

Coyote Inquisitors of Aldrakhania are really rare, but they do exist.
When Aldrakhania invaded north Amaru, most of the coyotes resisted and retreated into the forests. However, some accepted Aldrakhanian rule. Their descendants became part of the empire, and some of them even joined the ranks of the Inquisitors, which is basically an elite police force.
The Inquisitors are mainly recruited from the working class, while their counterparts, the Royal Guard Corps, originate from the nobility. The Inquisitors was established to counter the influence of the Royal Guards, as they traditionally held enough power to threaten the regime.
While curved swords are native to the region, the regime adopted the use of straight swords as symbols of legitimacy.

When Aldrakhania invaded, it quickly captured large areas of Alshenzia. However, this was part of Alshenzia's strategy of trading space for time. Alshenzia couldn't match the raw military might of Aldrakhania, so its forces focused on evacuating civilians and withdrawing. In doing so, they were saving resources and personnel from being lost in pointless fighting, and allowing for a more coordinated counterattack later.
However, doing so required some fighting, especially to prevent strategic points from being overrun by the enemy.

When Tobercurry “Toby” the coyote’s pups accompanied him on trips for meetings, they had a habit of hiding around the hotel room in enclosed spaces such as in cabinets, under tables, and behind curtains.
As such, he was inspired to construct a reading nook back at the den, much like the spaces they liked to hide in.

The black dog with floppy ears is at a shelter. She was formerly mangy and has been treated. I helped to catch her when she was on the street.
She'll have nowhere to go once released, so I may keep her with me, which is better than her going back onto the streets.
She's pretty sassy with other dogs, but really friendly with people.

To prepare this beverage, vendors “pull” coffee between two cups, basically repeatedly mixing coffee between two cups to aerate it. They often do this dramatically. If they’re skilled, they don’t spill a drop. The resulting beverage is frothy, strong, and sweet.
Coyote pups are familiar with the “ritual” of pulling coffee, and often practice with cups of water for the fun of it. For example, by the river, they'll play by pouring water between two containers to make '"pulled" coffee.'

that's a good question, haha. Short answer being, I wanted a submachine gun with grenade launcher attached, so I used those two weapons as models to base the idea on. I guessed a raccoon and similar sized characters would be more comfortable with submachine guns rather than assault rifles.

The coyotes have an affinity to the lightning element, able to wield its forces in combat.
According to myth, their ancestors were taught this power by the great storm bird of the desert. They attempted to hunt it, resulting in many battles, but neither could defeat the other.
Due to this common tenacity, respect for one another developed. As such, the storm bird taught the coyotes how to harness the power of lightning in exchange for them promising not to desecrate the desert.

That's the default stance of the coyotes when it comes to foxes, haha. A bitter, herbal jelly is an acquired taste, to say the least
u/HyperActiveMaineCoon • u/HyperActiveMaineCoon • 20d ago
Grass jelly is made from leaves and stems. In the southeastern regions, the rabbits and bulls prepare this food, with the notion that it helps keep them cool during work in the fields. Later, grass jelly beverages were developed, which became fairly popular across society. It can be mixed into a number of beverages, such as iced teas.
The rabbits of the northern regions don’t prepare grass jelly, but interestingly, the foxes do, calling it herbal jelly. It has a slightly bitter taste. As such, it is considered another weird fox food in those parts.

Oh, a horror setting. I see. Yup, smart raccoons would be pretty dangerous, considering all the trouble the regular ones get into, haha

I don't know how to draw a raccoon, so here's what I've got for now.
Raccoons in the setting are notably dexterous, so as fighters they make excellent demolitionists using grenades or special weapons. Depicted in the image, the raccoon wields a submachine gun with grenade launcher, developed by the coyotes, the dominant group in the region. He's a demolitionist for the armed forces either in the coyote state, or Alshenzia (a nation south of that).
Background
The raccoons are much like the foxes, rabbits, and other peoples that didn't have their own state, so they became part of larger political entities. In the coyote state and in Alshenzia, the military employed them as special units, seeing their skill in handling special weapons. These include thrown hand grenades, grenade launchers, and other weapons that require special training.
There are also some raccoons in the southeastern regions, such as Seramvia, though they weren't numerous enough to be notable in the armed forces. Instead, they applied their skills to other areas of society.
In their society, the raccoons value cunning and the spirit of trickery for defense.
Fighting Style
The raccoons are among the most disruptive fighters in the setting due to their tactical magic.
They are rogue-type fighters, much like the foxes and coyotes. They're closer in size to the foxes, so are lacking in raw toughness. As such, they focus on disrupting the enemy by sowing discord, sabotaging equipment, exploiting status effects, and quick re-positioning (short-range teleportation). Like other rogues, they're highly disruptive when catching the enemy off guard, but need an escape plan as this puts them in a vulnerable position when the enemy counter-attacks.
As sorcerers, their powers include sabotage, in which they can impose their will on weapon systems to temporarily disable them.

In the Guns of Pawgust setting, raccoons are very dexterous, and in military roles they excel as technicians, sappers, and demolitionists. Cunning like the foxes, they have an affinity for special weapons and explosives. They are also skilled in the use of tactical magic to disrupt the enemy, and sow discord. As sorcerers, their power is sabotage.

When Chuck the coyote was young, his father, Toby, taught him a lesson he learned after contemplating his time as a mercenary.
He placed a ball in a pot of water and asked him to push the ball to the bottom of the pot so it stays there. Of course, the water always wins.
Toby explains the water will always win because that’s what it does; it will always push the ball back to the surface. In order to win, you must understand what you’re fighting. It could be that you’re fighting something wrong, or that what you’re fighting isn’t necessarily an enemy.
Because Chuck remembered this lesson, he was able to convince former enemies to join his side, because he understood why they fought in the first place.

Tattoos on races with fur?

From what I've read it's permanent, and from the pictures I've seen, you can definitely form writing and patterns. I'd imagine that's one way a race with fur would use to make "tattoos."
