Vegetables are now half as nutritious than 60 years ago. Experts have worked out why

Am I being ridiculous about camping in the Victorian High Country?
 in  r/Auscamping •  10d ago

My friend went hiking through there for his 40th birthday treat to himself, 5+ years back.
Never returned, never found šŸ™.
I prefer to think if it wasn’t an accident that it was associated with that guy they caught killing people (as in that danger now gone).

Yep, have been working on an estimate of 2040 +/-10 for civilizational collapse/apocalypse due to Climate and Ecological collapse. But now thinking there’s an unholy chance that’ll be beat by an AI apocalypse! šŸ˜¶šŸ™

My personal estimate is 15years +/- 10.
So by 2040 high probability, maybe as early as 2030, extremely high probability by 2050.

Surprised this news hasn’t shown up here.

Omg. The opening chapter/setup in ā€œThe Ministry for The Futureā€! Except there it was a million people and a killer wet-bulb temp.

What single threat or datapoint convinced you that societal collapse is inevitable (or already underway)?

Add to that when I truly understood Cognitive Dissonance!

Just the simple fact of the Energy Imbalance!
I have a degree in Physics, so had no trouble understanding the concepts of black-body radiation and different absorption at different wavelengths. Haven’t got the exact figures at the tip of my brain but basically the earth was absorbing and re-emitting approximately 240 Watts/sqMeter (W/M2) for Millenia. Now with the extra insulation we’ve put up - CO2, Methane etc - 240W is still coming in but only say 238W going out. Trivial you say. Until you work out that that’s about 40,000 HIROSHIMA BOMBS PER HOUR!!!!!! Round the clock, every day every week every year every decade! All that extra energy gonna have huge effects. The oceans have soaked up more than 90% so far, but now we’re starting to see the results.

I lost 5 years of everything in 48 hours.
 in  r/Regrets •  Aug 15 '26

One more thing I’d like to add (from way over in Australia)
That loss of your first love is so unbearably painful if it was not you who decided it. But is it possible for you to pivot to look at just how good it was, how much you grew and learned, how joyful you are to have been given the chance to share those years with this beautiful soul? Instead of the loss try to have and think of gratitude. It was a gift, and if you can take it that way and grow from it I feel sure there is nothing she would want more for you, let alone you for yourself. Maybe your paths will cross again, and wouldn’t you want to be that fuller person?

Love your reply. Very similar to mine (which I posted before seeing yours).

My personal estimate for total Western civilizational collapse is 15 years +-10 (I don’t know enough about Eastern civilizations).
So a bell curve around 2040. 2030 at the earliest (say a few % chance), 2040 midpoint major probability, by 2050 I regard it as a virtual certainty.
I plan to be ā€˜ready’ in 10 years, but with a constant eye on the horizon ready to move much faster.

What do you think would happen if you retired to your room then came out as soon as you heard him raiding your stuff?

Apparently you can download ALL of Wikipedia without much fuss. Different sizes depending on how much graphics you want.

lol. I’ve been strongly criticized multiple times by women for using the term ā€˜ladies’! Told it’s derogatory or patriarchal. Have been diligently making sure I use ā€˜women’ or ā€˜female’!

Speaking from Melbourne Australia, strongly agree. Feels like we’re MUCH more aware than 1/2 of America of the shitstorm you are creating / living in over there. And the damage is already so deep!

I can barely function anymore. My worst fears are coming true.
 in  r/CollapseSupport •  Dec 17 '25

Btw, I’m 70+, and also incredibly depressed about the future. Living in Australia, but that won’t help. Have spent 15 years on very active Climate Emergency action, including getting arrested for the first time in my life, trying to leave you younger folk with a less catastrophic handover. Thinking ā€˜the solution to despair is action’. I’m so sorry I’ve failed. Planted a ā€˜food forest’ in our suburban home during Covid, but then realized I couldn’t defend it. Now ā€˜prepping’ in the mountains with a group of fellow climate campaigners!

How do I keep my roommate from stealing my stuff in fridge??
 in  r/badroommates •  Sep 14 '25

Would it be less confrontational for you just to leave a clear note on it saying something like ā€œx’s (you) treat - please do not touchā€? Alternatively put a treat in there with a powerful dose of laxative. Might cause her to pause in future.
