Question Is there a lot of partying there?

My child is looking at UC Merced, but they specifically don’t want a party school. I have told them that there will be partying at every school, but is UC Merced less, way less, more, way more than average?

Not a party school, unless you find the people who want to party lol

Not really if you’re not looking. But if you are, they are there 100%. How crazy depends on who you know.

There's orgs like merdead and Merced after dark along with others that have regular parties. Not to mention the frats always have stuff going on every weekend.

No compared to other unis, Merced is probably the least party focused school.

It’s not known as a party school… but if you’re looking for a party, there’s always one to be found.

I wouldn't say that there's lots of parties but there's always parties every weekend starting from Friday to Sunday. Several student ran groups and local Merced companies that organize parties. Most of these are house parties around the city but there are major ones organized in downtown or other places once in a while. If you're actively looking for parties you'll definitely have stuff to do and it's out there for sure.

Rarely there are parties that come unannounced on fizz or some fraternity insta social. Some p2w parties like mercedead can get canceled in a few hours and no refund is provided.

If your kid is a partygoer, ig go for it, but just be careful of going off campus without a car.

If they want to be able to focus on their studies, then this is the UC to be at. Definitely not a party school.

Its probally one of the quietest places after dark in Merced. Parties are rarely if ever in public, majority of the time parties are spent in reserved classrooms. You can only see a party if you actually try to look for one, other than that, Its a quiet research university.

currently live off campus (but nearby), I would have never known there were parties if it wasn't for this thread
