I usually do fingerstyle PIMA, but I've had a bandage on my thumb the last week and I've been trying to use a felt pick. It sounds really nice, but I'm confused how you do this style with a pick.

How do you strum with a pick? I find it really hard to strum up without it being extremely loud.

How do you do chords such as 0xx2 with a pick? I tried left hand muting the middle strings but I could still sort of hear them and it didn't sound right.

I've just started out and still learning what strumming works best for me and all. But one thought that I've been struggling with is, how does one actually master it? Is youtube and similar free resources actually enough? Like once I nail down strumming all I need to do is pick up a song and practice it to play? Am I missing something? Also F to G7 (from Bernadette's first couple lessons) is brutal lol. Either it takes a few seconds or i mess up how I press on the chords and it just sound as it supposed to.

Keep practicing slowly and be patient. Only go faster when you know you have at the slow speed you’re currently practicing. It will get better.

Lessons are far better than youtube because the teacher can see what you’re doing wrong.

Songs are more fun than just chords but you also need to be able to get a basic strum. You can always practice the basic strum with easy songs or just focus on the basic strum with the chord progression of the song. You can start working on the strum pattern of the song later, after you get the chords down with a basic strum. I would literally do a slow strum pattern of 4 even, down strums on each chord and switch to the next chord. And I would just focus on two chords at a time. It will take time for all of this.

Metronomes are key, at least for me, for playing slowly and slowly speeding up.

Enjoy

I'm assuming that F+ is the issue. I'd finger that as middle finger on the second fret of G and the pad of the index taking care of the first fret for both E and A.  That way the middle finger is the pivot for the whole sequence.

Edit: that should have been pad of index on C and E. I need to get more sleep.

I wish there was a reliable/easy way to determine how many strums of a particular chord is “correct” when reading tabs.

the kala app is nice because it spells it out on each song

I can’t play E. I CAN’T PLAY E! I just avoid songs that have an E chord.

What online resources for learning to play would you recommend for a beginner? I have an Oli soprano and a Kala tenor, both high G. I’ve played guitar long ago so I’m somewhat familiar with reading basic chords, but strumming and finger picking are new to me. Thank you!

I want to change my tenor ukulele to a low G and have no idea how to do this. I’ve never changed strings on a ukulele before. Advice?

I was recommended to get an Uke Logic gold alloy 0.030? Or a Fremont soloist squeakless polished wound low G 0.030?

Is it ok to just change the one string, or should I get a whole new set of tenor strings?

Thank you!

Both of those are good options. And if you like the CEA you already have then there is no need to change those.
