Hey y'all! So this is my second time growing shrooms. Last time was 6 years ago. That time went well, but this time I did everything as close to perfection as I could. Innoculated 20 bags of rice about 2 months ago with GT. 1 bag ended up with contam, other 19 were good. Spawned to nine 6oz tubs. I have pics of all that too, but can only upload 20 here so I picked the best pics. First pic is a nice shot of my fastest tub. Next 5 pics are that tub over 5 days leading up to harvest. Then all 9 tubs in 1 pic. Then the next 9 pics show each tub at harvest time. And finally, the last 3 pics show the entire harvest from the 9 tubs. Currently dehydrating, and expecting more flushes, so the work isn't done! But figured I'd throw these pics up since the first flush is finally over. Hectic last 24 hrs harvesting before the spores dropped in between working and other stuff. But I'm extremely happy with how this grow has gone perfectly. Any questions, please ask! Mush love! 🍄

Tried to clone an enigma mutation that came up in a later flush on a previous grow. No mutation but a really solid grow. Easily becoming one of my favorites

I’m really tempted to try this one out, but the legal side of things seem a bit sketchy to me haha, though i’ve only heard good things about the actual product upon research.

Is ub whole grain brown rice different in results from just whole grain and wtf is going on here

What if I take the cake out of the tub and put it on a sheet pan and tent it with a larger tub so all those side guys have room to grow? Stupid or genius? Or just let it do it's thing?

Natalensis on grain, inoculated Sept 24. It's almost fully colonized, and I'll have two 3 lb bags to spawn into my first NSS bulk. For bins I have an automated BoomR Bin and [your other bins and sizes]. My last grow only pinned on the sides and overlaid on top, so I'm trying to set this one up right.

What's the best way to split 6 lb of grain across these bins?
What spawn ratio would you run? I'm leaning 1:1 to 1:2.
Should I case once it's colonized, or go straight to fruiting?
Any natalensis-specific tips?

First grow that actually produced something. I've done a fair amount of reading, but I'd like some real-world input before flush 2.
Everything pinned off the sides where the block touched the bag. The top just grew a thick white crust and did nothing.
From what I've read, the top looks like overlay. My guess is it dried out or got too much air, while the sides stayed humid against the bag and got light through the plastic. I also think I flipped to fruiting too early, before it was fully colonized.
First flush was [129 g wet / 13g dry]. Some decent-sized ones in there.

What I did after the flush:
Picked everything, including the little side pins
Scraped off stumps and dead bits, and lightly forked the top in both directions to break up the overlay
Cold soaked it upside down in the fridge for 12 hours. I went cold so it was safe to leave overnight, and pulled it in the morning. Most of what I've read says 12–24 hours, and this is a dense block, so I'm wondering if I should've gone longer.
Drained it on a rack until the surface was matte, then leveled it since it was lopsided
Put about 1 cm of North Spore coir on top, sides bare
Back in an automated tub: humidity high, fan low and pointed up, lights off until the mycelium pushes through the coir, then switching to normal fruiting conditions

Questions:
Is it overlay, and did fruiting too early cause it?
Was 12 hours enough for a block this dense, or should I go 18–24?
Will the fork plus casing fix the top?
How do you prevent overlay in an automated bin? Fan settings, humidity, misting the top?
How do you tell when it's actually ready for fruiting?
Anything you'd do differently?

Just crack the lid? This is entirely unexpected. None of my tubs that were started before this are doing this.

These are pins that have been growing on contaminated sub, I was wondering if the caps being bumpy were just stress or a mutation

Half of my cake turned yellow. I was thinking it might just be piss. These mushrooms grew after it turned yellow.

So for the past two weeks I have been choking the mycelium by putting it 50 50 in and out of fruiting, but I feel like now is a good time to just leave it permanently in fruiting, with very small fae gaps from the flipped lid, trying to induce pins. I have lowered my environment from about 75 degrees to 71 degrees and will monitor the humidity to make sure it does not dry out and droplets remain on the casting layer. If it does dry out I will probably choke it instead of misting the sides because I've heard misting is unnecessary and harmful for the mycelium. Any tips would be cool :)

First time in over 10 years, going ok so far, seems like twist and pull works better than cutting but how do I clean the substrate off?
