I'm glad people are realizing this. When I was an undergrad I would try to argue with loud Christians on the corner, but it was pointless. It wasn't like they will swayed either. If they have a camera and they encourage you to argue, YOU are the product.

u/ThatOneUpittyGuy Alumni 4d ago

I used to get right in front of their camera to fuck with their recording

Not worth anyone’s time. Let them rot for engagement in their dumb little tent.

33

u/aais4quiters 4d ago

Blast Disney soundtrack as you pass. They can’t post due to the licensed music being played.

9

u/idontcareoline 3d ago

Unfortunately they can just edit it out. It doesn’t work anymore

2

u/MemoryOne22 2d ago

Could still be annoying

37

u/Spacialss 4d ago

I genuinely sang Cavetown out loud. Hopefully they get their shit copyrighted by me >:)

u/vicksxnvisuals 4d ago

That method is patched

2

u/vicksxnvisuals 3d ago

Jesus Christ is still God tho. Real Christian’s reflect the true love of Christ. Any “Christian” that doesn’t reflect Christ doesn’t have him at all.

Best thing you can do is ignore them

5

u/theaceonthemound 4d ago

they certainly weren't ignored 🫩

12

u/Danilo-11 4d ago

Destroy them with silence

8

u/ButtBurgerDeluxe 3d ago

I sat there to listen to what was going on they’re genuinely so ass at debating all they did was yell over the students talking to them 😭

21

u/Desperate-Parking-60 4d ago

The loudest outdoor speakers you can find. Camp next to them, point speakers in their direction, blast until they leave. Problem solved. These are fucking nazis. No sense in arguing with them.

6

u/70snostalgia 3d ago

Not sure if they’re Nazis. Probably just conservatives.

4

u/Desperate-Parking-60 3d ago

Hard to tell the difference these days. Conservatives are now in bed with fascists, authoritarians, Islamophobes, racists, and white nationalists. I'm myself a Christian but some of these southern evangelical "christians" are so far removed from Jesus' teachings it's scary. If your brand of conservatism attracts all those hate groups, maybe you should take a hard look at the views you're espousing and figure out why they are so appealing to those groups.

would you also say the same about the left? “liberals are communists, sometimes.” reverse the roles and see if you still agree with this logic

0

u/swagatronSigma 3d ago

i’m a communist

0

u/Massive-Zombie-7845 3d ago

proud to a communist, huh? if the right proudly chants that they’re a “fascist”, you’d throw a fit

1

u/AdJust5244 3d ago edited 3d ago

Under communism you can still have freedom and justice for all; under fascism you get the iron fist. Not sure how you can ever compare the two since they aren't even the same type of ideology.

4

u/Massive-Zombie-7845 3d ago

please do some serious research before making your argument, supporting extremism is never going to end up in anyone’s favor

3

u/PauseProper3356 3d ago

OK, I dare you to go to North Korea and say that Kim Jong-un is a terrible, terrible person… my point is you don’t have freedom there, plus you don’t even have a real option to vote. You have to vote, and you’re only option is Kim Jong-un

1

u/jovianBlue 2d ago

North Korea is a TOTALITARIAN DICTATORSHIP. Totalitarianism recognizes NO LIMIT on state power. I may not know much about communism but I know totalitarianism is NOT a fundamental necessity of it and the defining characteristics of North Korea's government sure isn't it's "communism".

→ More replies (1)

2

u/Massive-Zombie-7845 3d ago

wow, you’re actually brainwashed. yes, you may be right that the core foundation or intended goal of communism is to achieve equality, but it has never really worked out in practice; same with socialism (not to be confused with Nordic model’s social democracy). plus, communism has killed more people, indiscriminately (by starving them and gulags), than fascism ever have. you’re falling into the same trap and no different as those on the extreme right that actually support fascism

1

u/AdJust5244 3d ago

Name the country that actually had true communism. You can't blame all the deaths on "communism" when no country has ever properly employed it. Furthermore, I never labeled myself as a communist, I just argued with your comparison of communism and fascism because you seem to think they're two sides of the same coin.

2) In fact, these talking points sound exactly like regurgitated YouTube incel garbage so if anyone is brainwashed, it's you.

3) Amazing (hypocritical) that MAGA thinks a gun can't kill someone yet a communism can, and even more perplexing.. that capitalism is somehow not responsible for any problems. God's perfect system. 👼😂🙄

3

I didn’t take a picture but when I walked past them it seemed to be some Islamophobic and transphobic stuff on two of them

0

u/Massive-Zombie-7845 3d ago

care to describe what the flyers say?

6

u/Successful_Pizza8268 4d ago

I like to piss em off not by arguing but by toddlering it by just asking "why" to everything they say

Edit: I used to do that, mb for bad phrasing

-2

u/pogybait24 3d ago

It’s a discussion on differences not arguing. You choose to be a toddler because you can’t articulate why men can be women and why murdering an unborn human being is health care.

1

u/ratchboi 3d ago

Low iq?

1

u/Successful_Pizza8268 3d ago edited 3d ago

I mean, I don't think I'm being a toddler. They're chosing to intentionally come to a campus which often has large groups of people who support abortion, and they like to provoke passerby people. I know because they tried roping me into it. I can understand the idea fo abortion and how it works, and I am pro abortion myself.

Saying "You choose to be a toddler because you can't articulate why men can be women and why murdering unborn human being is healthcare" is confusing. I can't tell if you support or don't support it. Instead of jumping the gun and throwing insults, articulate your words.

Wanted to edit this to say, I'm not being a toddler I'm just doing something toddlers do when curious, being asking "why" to everything. I don't think I'm being a toddler in the literal sense. I'm meaning just the questioning.

2

u/Desperate-Parking-60 3d ago

These groups should not be allowed to come to university campuses for this bullshit. If university students want to argue with each other or their professors, fine. But I always found outside people (grown adults, not students) going to college campuses to argue with teenagers super weird. Like, this is your job???

3

u/pogybait24 2d ago

University students are adults, adults that can vote. They don’t have to argue with anyone, they can simply go about their day.

0

u/Massive-Zombie-7845 3d ago

I’m sorry but I’m going to politely disagree with you. They won’t force you to debate with them and if you feel uncomfortable or don’t want it, you can simply ignore them. However, you’re not helping the situation either by being intolerant of opposing views to yours.

u/Desperate-Parking-60 2d ago

LOL! My favorite "I'm conservative/republican but don't support Trump". Sure, buddy. You voted for him 3 times. I guess when you're trying to debate people it makes it very easy for people to attack your views when everything your "daddy" does is indefensible. And while I'm on that point, what self-respecting adult calls some random grown man "daddy"? Such a strange cult of billionaire worshippers.

2

u/Massive-Zombie-7845 2d ago

Who even calls Trump daddy? That’s very weird and plus, I didn’t vote for Trump

2

u/Rookva 1d ago

I know people have very little reasoning skills mostly just because all their political knowledge comes from the mainstream media and freaks on social media but you can be a supporter of x political ideology but not vote for the person that that party decides to put front and center as their candidate.

Hell I think if you've voted in any election since 2016 that you have impossibly awful views on politics and you should have never got involved with them since you are unable to see people for who they are and rather what they're supposed to represent. Not a single good candidate has cropped up in recent years because everything is predicated on people picking a political side.

u/sharcophagus 4d ago

Any musicians want to have a jam sesh next time they're out there? I just started learning how to play the tin whistle, would be fun to practice with some pals

1

Who needs freedom of speech, am I right guys? Let's just drown out people we disagree with.

Note that I do not agree with Reawaken and I find their views ridiculous.

2

u/sharcophagus 3d ago
  1. The 1st amendment protects speech from censorship by the government, not private citizens

  2. I'm exercising my own freedom of expression

  3. I'm not drowning out shit, they have speakers you can hear all the way down the street. I'm just being annoying for sport, which isn't illegal yet

2

u/FalloutOW Alumni 2d ago

Nothing wrong with it, it's the zealous, hellfire and brimstone sign holders that are the problem.

I'm about as much of an atheist as you can be, and I don't have a problem with most religious folks. They have different views of our existence, but are mostly like me, moving forward in a universe that is awesome and seemingly random.

The folks I do take issue with are those who want to turn my country into some theocratic autocracy. Spitting on the very ideas my country was founded upon, not to mention the first amendment.

2

1

u/AdJust5244 2d ago

There's no saving grown ass men who think the way they do. There's two outcomes to engaging with them. One, you "show them how wrong they are" and then they edit your part out and they never show their viewer base. Or, you lose against them and get clipped so they spread their hateful rhetoric.

2

u/ObWzEN 2d ago

Yeah I guess it’d be better if it was live

1

u/PrestigiousOil7237 4d ago

What is their issue?

2

u/Desperate-Parking-60 3d ago

At the end of the day, they want us to fight right vs left when the real issue is up vs down. The billionaires are the ones spending all the money supporting MAGA to keep the right vs left fight going because it distracts us while they're robbing us blind. You think they give two shits about any of the culture war bullshit? It's an easy way for them to divert people's anger away from them and the rubes just eat it up. These billionaires own all conservative media, have admitted to running bot farms in Eastern Europe, and are grabbing more and more of our resources. We're losing the war against them and still have a bunch of morons joining their camp.

Most of the wealth in America is held by Democrats.

1

u/Desperate-Parking-60 1d ago

Elon Musk, the Waltons, the Koch, and Jeff Bezos hold most of that wealth. Are they democrats now?

1

u/porcupineforlyfe 1d ago

Historically, yes. 8 of the 10 richest districts in the US are deep blue. Biggest media companies, apple, the Soros family, Bloomberg, Hoffman, Hastings, Schmidt family, Bill and ex wife Melinda Gates. Harris had 83 billionaires with a net worth of 11 TRILLION dollars backing her, Trump had 31 with a net worth of 5.2 trillion.

We don't like to acknowledge it, but yes. We have more billionaires than Republicans. After this last election that number is going to fall pretty dramatically, as the new breed of progressives that are becoming a cancer to the party are going after them as the world's greatest evil.

1

u/Captain_Coffee_III 1d ago

Going by the Forbes top 400 list and just focusing on the top 25 -
https://www.forbes.com/forbes-400/

Total wealth by the top 25, $4.2T. Using the median net wealth of household in the USA ($216k), that is the combined net wealth of 19.6M households. Just for scale..

Since not all everyone declares a party affiliation, based on their causes and donations, I classified them as "center", "left", or "right".

Given those, the top 25 richest fall in: Left 7, Center 6, Right 12
Forbes also attached a philanthropy score 1..5, the average for each group: Left 3.1, Center 1.3, Right 1.6.

Given this chunk of wealth, yeah, the right hold a the largest chunk and give away 2x more (of whatever Forbes scaled it on).

But if you reframe it to "Right" and "Not Right", the number of people are about even but the philanthropy scores are wildly different in favor of "Not Right".

What's interesting is that even in the Forbes top 400, these 25 represent half of the total wealth. The remaining 375 is $3.8T.

The top 400 people in the USA have the same combined net worth as 39M households.

But when looking up the "Center", the men all had a common theme. They didn't want to be political but tended to advocate for reduction on trades rules, taxes, environmental restrictions, safety, oversight, etc., which is very much in line with everybody on the right. The centrist women didn't care about business and their causes were about people.

Again, differing “opinions” can be spoken. Who cares. I won’t “debate” someone who has the “opinion” certain people shouldn’t/don’t exist. I never said they shouldn’t speak it. Honestly that helps us to know we can’t trust them.

2

u/Massive-Zombie-7845 3d ago

that’s not how conservative ideology works. please do your own research before making the broad assumption that they want to “erase” certain people

I have done my own research. And perhaps not all conservatives, but certainly the current administration, definitely want to “erase” transgender people.

even if it doesn’t matter (though I don’t really care who you are), I suggest you do more research because you’re conflating what you think is happening and what is really happening to trans people. I think you should consider that this administration doesn’t really want to “erase” trans people but instead, disagree with their ideology and consider it dangerous to fundamental American values. to me, disagreeing that trans women should be in the same sports as biological women, that children should receive gender-affirming surgeries (since they are children and can’t consent), and that tone policing gender pronouns without prior knowledge are all common-sense positions that won’t do harm to most non-radical trans people who want to live their lives free of discrimination. I agree that trans people that should receive mental health services just as much as cisgender people, live their lives free from any form of discrimination, and that people should respect their gender pronouns with prior knowledge. however, I do not want their ideology shoved down people’s throats. any sort of radical ideology, whether it comes from the left or the right, should have absolutely no place in American society. it’s harmful, damaging, and deepens the political divide and polarization within our country even further

I can think of some pretty effective ways to engage.

Putting Conservative first at UNT. Conservative UNT. There should be an acronym for that.

it's college, go debate and win. put that tution money to work💸

11

u/Mickeybeasttt 4d ago

They pay money to be educated by people who are actually qualified, not a bunch of clip farmers who argue in bad faith.

2

u/Connect_Serve2248 4d ago

my point exactly. they obtain knowledge from the professors. my point is to USE this knowledge and exercise that muscle in your brain that you're PAYING to exercise. i said debate and win. NOT to listen, take notes, or study.

u/Mickeybeasttt 4d ago

A debate implies two people seeking to change each others minds in good faith. No clip farmer who goes to college campuses is ever trying to argue in good faith.

They throw out misinformation and argue with logical fallacies so they can cut responses out of context for engagement on social media. Not worth anyone’s time… it’d be better to spend that time studying actual material.

hard to clip someone when they're tearing your arguements apart limb by limb...

imagine paying to go to a place where you're supposed to learn and debate knowledge, only to neglect these tools you're paying for in exchange for petty reddit karma.

16

u/Unique_Violinist4851 Bachelor's 4d ago

that would imply they are there to debate in good faith

-12

u/Connect_Serve2248 4d ago

just because someone's view differ from yours doesn't make it a "bad faith" arguement. plenty of intellectuals from opposing sides have debated on campuses since the inception of college. there are plenty civil, college debates online if you'd like examples in order to prepare for such interactions in the future. young people left or right need to learn how to debate without trying to chop each others heads off.

u/manydoorsyes Ecology 4d ago

These people are most certainly not there in good faith. I encountered them last month and listened to a bit. Every time someone pokes a hole in an argument (which is pretty often) they attempt to deflect it.

Genuine debate is healthy but these people aren't doing that. Students would gain more knowledge studying or participating in club activities (many of which involve lectures) instead.

Yes, the college Freshmen is armed to go debate someone who does it professionally, because they’ve taken intro to Philiosophy.

the youngest signer of our declaration of independence was 26 years old. these kids have access to an abundance of information on a scale never before seen. they should be expected to debate at a proficient level. especially if they're in a college, an institution of higher learning.

This was corny and gay

u/Connect_Serve2248 4d ago

it's to show how low our standards have plummeted. the youth can no longer read, those who are trying are getting gutted by the system, gen x and boomers laughing while we pay into their retirement funds, and the top don't even think about us. if we had just an inkling of the founding fathers minds, we'd probably be causing a bigger disturbance in the power structure compared to now.

15

u/allison_mossie 4d ago

Is it considered necrophilia for you to be bouncing and slobbering all over the founding fathers? Like recommit them to their tombs when you are done bozo

u/lizzyscuttle14 4d ago

THIS IS KILLING ME LMFOSJDK

to revere those who created our nation? not necrophilia in the slightest. you'll be obtaining reddit karma forsure though!

u/allison_mossie 4d ago

Brother the founding fathers did not think you should vote lmao

2

u/Connect_Serve2248 4d ago

I would have been able to vote. Many others wouldn't have been able on the other hand.

You do realize that if you care about this so much, you can contact the university and get a free speech permit and buy a tent and cameras and sound equipment and signs and do this whole thing yourself. Also calling people names and harassing them just because you don’t like what they have to say is not gonna do anything for you… in fact you may get yourself caught up in things that may make employers in the future choose another candidate.. it’s OK to not agree with what somebody has to say but it’s also not OK to harass them and threaten them.

2

u/Massive-Employ2091 3d ago edited 2d ago

Do not, I repeat do not try to reason with these people(the left). Anything you say that requires reasoning and thought will be lost on them.

2

u/Massive-Zombie-7845 2d ago

On the other hand, conservatives are a lot more tolerant of opposing views from my experience. My brother is a progressive/leftist and when I try to have a productive political conservation when him, it immediately broils down to “Democrats are good and Republican are bad” without any sort of nuance. However, I had friends at work who identify as conservatives or are right-leaning and many do not play purity tests, engage in cancel culture, and label liberals “communist” for simply having a disagreement.

2

u/No_Jellyfish6515 3d ago

Where on earth do you see me harassing or threatening anyone or calling them names?? Laughable tbh
