Completed Upcycling Project making little containers from soda bottle tops
I love making these little things (even though I still haven't found a good use for them š )

Perfect for cosmetics, change, or medications. Even for holding jewelry or rings. You could easily turn these into keychains by adding an eye screw to the top.

Also for collecting seeds!

Dude great for taking seeds on a walk, I like to sprinkle natives along appropriate forest edges.

The King Of Random made these with a divider in-between. he made a video putting two chemicals in them that when combined would be a fire starter.
personally I feel 2 chemicals that create a fire when combined should be in separate containers. so you could use each one for a different fire starter
he also has other fire starters and various things you could put in those for an emergency kit!

This a winner OP š
Simple to make, useful in many ways, customizable by color even.

if you do it right, don't even need the glue, you can make a tight connection by just making the little neck of the bottle (the part that's being sanded in the picture) slightly larger than the second cap and then just hit it with a hammer to secure the connection, the glue is there to keep it from sliding around since opening a bottle where both the cap and the body moves is very infuriating, the glue is the MVP really

My Grandpa used to do this. He would give them to me to use for travel pill containers.

Oooo! Could keep little dog treats in one for potty training (give one little treat every time they potty outside). Could take meds for an evening in one. Earplugs. Small pair of earrings. So many possibilities!! Gonna start making these lol.

I love this, but genuine question, are you still able to turn in the rest of the bottle? Or do you live somewhere where you don't get money for bringing the bottle back to the store? Again, I absolutely adore this and I could use such small containers quite well myself, I'm just afraid of "ruining" a Mehrwegpfandflasche that could be reused.

Yes, the systems that accept returns look for the barcode and for the bottle to be in a specific weight range. It probably won't notice such a small bit being gone.

We have to remove the caps before taking them in to the recycling place anyway. The caps go in the garbage. This is a very neat idea!

Unless you live in Oregon. You can recycle lids here by taking them to a recycleon center. Find one near you at https://recycleon.org/oregon/

That's wild. We don't have removable caps anymore. It annoys a lot of people because they end up in your face while drinking

Is it two bottle tops glued together? Do both sides open?

It took me a minute, but it works because one side is threaded (able to be reopened) and the other (cut, not threaded) side is sealed with glue.

Probably would be great for beads or sd cards. Or watercolor paint if you do any painting. Or tiny screws if you do electronics repair.

I'm going to do this asap cuz I take a tiny pill in the middle of the day and it's so annoying carrying a huge pill planner for one singular pill LOL

What did you use to make the middle part black?

u/Mx_Yellow 1d ago
various layers of black Sharpie marker š since it's smooth plastic it doesn't grip the ink very well so I had to go over and over again... should've used to sandpaper to roughen up the surface first

I make my own cuticle oil, lip balm, and perfume oils. These would be great to toss in my purse.

I buy lotion for excema but I don't want to risk contaminating the entire jar by double dipping. Been searching for tiny jars like this. Thanks for posting your work! Do you sand the cut part? Any tips for a new by?

The lids are thermoplastic and can be reused. Its silly that they are probably inconsequential in the recycling method.

besides having the rest of the bottle, just go to your local medicinal store & find something that meet all them needs...got several that are in use during traveling...

Omg, I could use these for medications and earplugs on-the-go. Thank you!
