Discussion U.P. Duck Hunter from IL

I have an opportunity to hunt the U.P. on the Les Cheneaux Islands in Cedarville, MI in mid October and early November. I normally hunt in Southern Illinois so I'm very out of my element that far north.

I'm going to set up on private land on Cedarville Bay, I've seen a lot of mallards and redheads frequent this shoreline in the warmer months but not sure what the colder months this far into the season could bring in. I was told most of the pond ducks will be gone and it will be primarily divers left.

Do you think a shore hunt like that would be worthwhile?

I live on the water up here and most of the ducks are gone already. I'm not seeing many hunters out this year at all.

I'm hearing very little shooting now compared to a week ago. I wouldn't count on getting anything in two weeks. Bow season for deer starts in 3 days.

All depends on the weather, can't predict it. Keep an open mind, have a back up plan, and have fun

I would suggest calling the local DNR office.

That's good advice, thanks!
