Seeking Friendship (Bromance)

STRICTLY PLATONIC - BRO SEEKING BRO

I hope this is an acceptable post for this sub!

My dear fiance who has lived all over the United States has now settled in with me for the long haul in New England and specifically the Upper Valley at present.

Similar to many who were not born and raised in the area, he is feeling a bit isolated and limited in terms of meeting people his age.

Here are some facts and interests- If any of the following resonate with you, maybe there's a connection to be made!

Late 30s to late 40s

No children

No pets (yet)

Social, intelligent and informed, friends and family oriented, and the kind of person who's happy to kick back and have a beer and a chat. Easy going. The friend a friend would like to have.

INTERESTS: cycling, home improvement, real estate, networking- PROJECTS, PROJECTS, PROJECTS- curious about pretty much everything and the biggest DIYer I have ever met

LIKES: darts (and similar), soccer, bourbon, cigars, being silly, cars, motorcycles, snowmobiles, jazz (vinyl!!!), mid century modern vibes, movies, exploring, dateline, fun sneakers, blackjack

DISLIKES: seafood, overgrown lawns, scam callers, golf

Here's hoping someone out there is looking for a friend like my fiance!

EBAS IS BACK!

So, not yet. We are working on it. If you have been dreaming of a chicken sandwich, breadsticks, or even a side of ranch, leave your favorite EBAS memories here. Did you come late night after some brewskis at 5 Olde back in the day? Maybe got some clam chowder at the Dartmouth Hockey games? Maybe we catered one of your events or hosted a team party.

I think we can all agree, we miss EBAS. I know I do. Help us bring back the memories, the good times, the nostalgia of EBAS.

I am helping my brother compile a database of everything EBAS from the last 50 years. Testimonials, pictures, videos, old receipts, menus, anything you have to share! We want it all. The Upper Valley was such an important part to EBAS, and I know we can count on them to help us bring EBAS back, and better than we were before. New ideas, new place, new concept. But at the heart, still the same. Love you all, and thank you for any help you can bring.

Send any media you have to margaret.bogosian@gmail.com. Subject line, EBAS!

Have an absolutely wonderful afternoon!

What are we missing in the Upper Valley?

What businesses or service providers have you noticed being absent from the Upper Valley that you think would fit into the marketplace.

Edit: looking specifically for businesses local people could own/operate. Not corporations you’d like to see set up shop here. Even more specifically in-home service providers and businesses that could occupy small vacant retail spaces

Buyer's agent you had a good experience with?

My partner and I are going to be getting on the market in the next 6 months. Already local for a few years, but we are first time buyers so we'd like to work with a good agent that can actually give us some advice! Considering both NH and VT. Anyone want to give a shout out to an agent you enjoyed working with?

Which drink and drivers are also the trashiest? Soda? Cheap beer? Boozy seltzer? Fancy beer? An upper valley study.

Picked up this morning on Dulac Street in Leb.

eta: NH would benefit from a bottle bill.

Wrote a song about how much I freaking love the Upper Valley

I moved here three years ago, and every year I've found myself progressively loving this place more and more. The UV is where I started to really get into running, and something I quickly learned is that the trails and dirt roads here are just unparalleled. I love that there is a mix of everything: hills, rivers, forests, valleys, farmland, floodplains, gorges. I love the snow, the fall, the rainy days, the sometimes bitter cold. Maybe the only thing I could do with a little less of is the hot and humid summers. I ran the VT 50 a couple of weeks ago and throughout that and countless other local races I couldn't help but think how lucky I am to call this beautiful place home.

And so I wrote a song about how much I freaking love it here! Hoping that it resonates with some: spotify , youtube , apple music

I just need advice. Please

I am a 31 year old female that originally came back to the upper valley to care-give for my father.

He is now healing well and being very hostile, rude, and annoyed that I am in his presence and even lied to others and said very demeaning things about me. He has a brain tumor that’s non cancerous and can cause behaviors to happen but my dad also continues to do it and it’s now affecting my mental health.

He upset his neighbors by doing this and they say I should get help through the Haven to get me housing but I have a job full time currently and don’t have a drivers license or car so the bus route is my only transportation. I have no other family help because my brother and sister cut him off …. and I’m a stranger to everybody because when I came here I just focused on my dad and work. I isolated and now I’m depressed and need this job to survive but what do I do?

I love my job, I try to be an okay person, and I am trying to figure out health insurance and other things but I’m starting to feel exhausted all the time and depressed. I mean he uses the VA for help and has health insurance, a helper comes every Tuesday but I’m at work so I can’t utilize it. and etc but it’s my moral compass of “that’s my dad.”

Honestly at this point I am debating walking into the Coolidge Hotel and figuring out how to get long term rental and working there too or something? I’m overwhelmed and need advice and I have nobody.

I-89 Construction Traffic Insanity

Yesterday I was on my way home after work. I got on the highway at Exit 18 and headed north. Just a little before Exit 19 the traffic was backed up as expected.

The construction going on at the bridge over the CT river was to blame. They like to leave the "left lane closed" signs up even after the left lane is open. This has happened at least three times.

I'm not complaining about that. It is probably a pain for them to take those signs down or can't get to it before rush hour traffic comes through.

But the drivers get slowed down to a crawl until they realize the left lane is actually open. No problem, I expected that because it was the same the day before.

What I did not expect was some guy with his truck straddling two lanes and not letting anyone by. I was in the left lane and could see a couple hundred yards beyond him was totally empty. I gave him the "what the heck are you doing?" hand motions and he opened his window and motioned for me to get into the right lane. Finally, he relented and I went by to discover that the left lane was open and there was no reason for people to be going as slow as they were.

I guess he never heard of zipper merging.

What nicknames have you heard for places in and around the Upper Valley?

I ask as part of a linguistic study covering this topic!

Examples could include things like Hangover, White Liver Function, The 'Back or Darty (never mind how common they are)...

incl. nicknames for schools, parks or other institutions/geographic features

Where to buy winter tires

My daughter just moved to Lebanon from Fl and needs to get winter tires for her 2025 AWD Mazda cx-30. We want to get the wheels which I am told is better when switching out in the late spring. What are the best local places to get tires?
