Bio 1

Is anyone else having a rough time with bio 1? Are there any better ways to know what might be on the test aside from just doing the study guide because I was pretty confident and I understand the content and how things work but the wording of the questions is rough for me.
Just wondering how everyone else is feeling about it and opinions on question formatting on the exams. NO TEST ANSWERS, it closes tonight but it hasn’t yet so be vague and don’t post questions outright. For example, I had a rough time with the phrasing of the hypothesis’s and osmosis concepts.

From what I’ve heard basically EVERYONE is struggling. I took this class for the first couple weeks then dropped it because I did AP bio in hs and boy am I glad I did that. But anyway both my roommate and my girlfriend didn’t get desirable scores on the test and my roommate said that everyone she’s talked to did bad too. I might just be hormonal but this is really pissing me off bad and I’m not even in the class 😭 like tf do u mean you give a test that nobody understands and just don’t let them retake it??? I know I’m being of zero help here but good god I had to rant about this 🥲

I’ve got a friend in another section that’s having a worse time of it than I am and we both thought it was just us. But the data on the exam doesn’t lie which is super validating. I completed the study guide, most of which was useless, I attended the pass sessions I could, including the two hour test prep one which did help a little. But still just a B. What more do you want from me?!? Glad you got out when you could. 😭

As an alum from 2018, worst grade I got in all of college was bio 1. Shits hard for no reason, so much memorization

The professor is Nicholas Pardikes. I don’t know what the rate my professor people are on saying that you can tell he cares. My friends, this is a class of 900 students. He can barely cover all the content and has to straight up skip slides. Not sure where you’re feeling cared for or that your grade or success matters to him

So I had him last year and struggled a bit with the tests but the automatic drop of your lowest one and doing the homework consistently keeps your grade up better than you think! I honestly struggled with the study guide in general like why are you that way but just reading through the chapters and doing my own notes worked a bit better. Good luck!

I've heard of a decent number of people who take bio 1 and 2 in Brigham City to avoid the class. Not sure if you need to take Bio 2, but it's supposed to be way easier over there.

Honestly not sure how you're struggling. I and everybody I know had a very easy time with that class. To the point that I stopped going to class and just read his slides the day before the test and got 95-100 on every one

It’s the questions, and it’s not the content itself that I’m having an issue with, more that I’ve never done something resembling the question so it’s unfamiliar and I’d like more practice like a practice test ahead of time. I’m not failing, I’m actually well above the mean of the class but I’ll probably still get a B. The test has closed now, and the mean is 64%. That’s abysmal for a class that big.

Hello, I took this class 2 years ago with professor Pardikes and got an A, it is a lot of concepts I think it being an introductory class means he likes to assume that you will understand a lot of it already and he feels comfortable skipping things. If you think it’s important he’ll usually go back if you ask him to pause and go back a slide, though i would just recommend doing your notes from the slideshows at home if he’s moving through them too quickly.
