Advice Needed Light electives for someone social science oriented
I am in desperate need of suggestions for a fun elective. I like writing papers but am terrible at math and science.
I had a pretty bad registration date as a second year transfer student this semester. All the profs for the classes I could get into had abysmal rate my prof ratings.
I'm putting blood sweat and tears and not getting good grades. I even reached out to one of my profs about a grade and they said I "went above and beyond" but they didn't give any critical feedback. They then said they don't give out As because nobody's perfect.
So please if anyone has a suggestion for a fun and light elective I would ponder and cherish it.

You might like the courses from Jentery Sayers? He had a couple i liked, interactive fiction and another on games. They're higher level, like 300, but fun and manageable, not too much writing, and a refreshing change from traditional academics. They're english courses. I was a social sciences chad.
There's also ED-P301 under educatoin which is a simple pass/fail course. I was volutneering at hte time, and i just used that for the program. You have to give a presentation but its super straightforward class.

Seconding Jentery. I took MDIA 200 my first term and classes were so chill and fun. No papers or tests, either, just a series of worksheets with a selection of prompts

I've heard those are great here! Unfortunately I have already taken them at my previous institution. Do you know of any other good psych classes?

AHVS 392. It is taught by Dr. Reed who is fantastic. His classes are not super light but his tests are kind and your grade is probably going to be based on multiple assignments. He gives you good feedback as well. It's a 3rd year course but 2nd years can take it.

I'm taking AHVS311F Horror Video Games. It's pretty good, enjoyable conversations even though it's online. I'm a fan of the workload, it's pretty reasonable for an elective and a good portion of it is game play. There are lots of options for games so you don't need to own a gaming system to take the class.

If African Drumming is still a thing you should go for it. It's crazy fun!

Sorry, a prof told you they don’t give out As period?? That sounds like department head and/or ombudsperson time.

See that's what I was thinking too but just needed someone else to confirm so I don't feel crazy. Thank you

They are literally tanking people’s entire GPA to stroke their own ego. If you literally do not assign a single A grade, you have most likely failed as a teacher.

I'm not even mad at the grade itself. But I worked really hard on the paper and the prof didn't give me any feedback on what I could do better after I specifically asked. Just stated that I went above and beyond, but they don't give out As. So I don't know what I can do to improve. And even if I could improve my next paper, I won't be able to achieve a higher grade than the one I got. It's BS

I would check the university’s policy on this - I have heard that they need to use rubrics, and give you a marked rubric for papers

Not sure if you’ve done them already being in Social Sciences but SOCI 100A&B with Bruce are pretty interesting lectures and content.

Ensh 222, hlth 251, writ 109, psych 100A (boring but easy), Soci 202 (really boring but easy), do NOT take gdnr 100, in fact, don't take any GNDR classes

Look into anthropology! I've had classes recently with Mark McIntyre, Erin McGuire, and Andrea Walsh and they have all been wonderful. Super kind, some fun projects. Archaeology of Textiles, Graphic Anthropology (like graphic novels and art), Anthropology of Film, and Anthropology of Sound are a few examples I really enjoyed :)
