❔Question Aspiring students seeking to find non expensive accommodation around

I’m planning to start university soon, but I’m coming from quite far away and I’m worried about finding affordable accommodation near campus. I’d really appreciate any suggestions, advice, or ideas on how best to go about it? Hoping this would help a lot.

From my days at the university, first through third year students are required to live on campus.

Except for local commuters when I was there. A student from far away like me had to live on campus and I got a freshman waiver to have a car since I was from more than something like 500 miles away.

No waiver needed anymore. My freshman last year parked in a parking garage right behind his dorm for less than I paid and I had to park far away. Alas I was at a large state university.

When I went, you had to live 3 years on campus. I only had to find accommodations my senior year

I lived in a freshman double as a single senior year, cheap and easy

We would definitely recommend exploring on-campus housing! Living on campus can be a more affordable and predictable option than it first appears, especially when you factor in costs such as utilities, internet, transportation, furniture, and other shared living expenses.

It also makes it much easier to get connected to the Valpo community, meet other students, participate in campus activities, and access dining, academic resources, and support services. For students coming from farther away, that built-in community can make the transition to university life feel much more manageable.

Our residential life team can help you learn more about housing options, costs, and the resources available to incoming students. Feel free to DM us for more information or to continue the conversation!

801 Union Street was a good place but I think it’s now the Pike House.
