if you're a bartender and overserve someone and they go on to hurt someone or themselves, you're going to take a legal whalloping.

if you're a teenager, you can be successfully prosecuted for not paying attention as a lifeguard and someone gets hurt/dies on your watch.

if you're a doctor, you can get slapped with a misconduct or malpractice suit due to you screwing something up, you can lose your medical license and go to prison.

if you're a judge, you can release a violent person time after time and not face a single review of your work, or disciplinary hearing, or be forced to take remedial training.

in canada, it is literally impossible to sue a judge for harm that came from their decisions.

there should be accountability on the parole boards. if you release a person who reoffends, there should be a review and potential corrective action or termination if found negligent in their decisions.

halfway houses should be in judges' neighborhoods

All that money for cops

Don’t forget the federal government’s “tough on crime” bill that literally changed nothing as well.

This is what I am most infuriated with. The Liberals have had seriously unpopular decisions over the past couple of weeks now and I can’t help but wonder if that even did anything.

No, it did not do anything.

Hey now I'm sure Carney's buddies got some things out those decisions, or at least they will later on

Nah miss me with that shit, this is on the VPD and Sim being inept

No. It literally changed nothing. Judges still release high risk individuals. Sim ain’t much better but LPC still inept at public safety, it’s a chronic issue with that party.

I’m sure YOU are educated and well aware, but with a few minor exceptions violent crime has been DECREASING at least in North America for quite a while.

Please look it up if you don’t believe me.

People will argue that this is caused by having MORE police.

Correlation doesn’t equal causation.

For example: I have kept a clean sanitized bottle of Peanut butter on top of my fridge for 25 years.

I have had no Elephants come and rage into my apartment.

This also keeps away racoons, bats, owls, bears and most other wildlife.

How would have reducing funding to police prevented this?

The cop in charge of ramping up the public alarm for the election must’ve been sick for a couple days…catching up now

Ken Sims Vancouver eh?

David Eby's

Wait, wasn't it Kennedy Stewart's fault last election? Now it's not the mayor's fault?

They’re both a little guilty. People don’t want to house these people though so. This is what we get.

4

u/Ornery_Welcome4911 10h ago

that wouldn't make any difference

5

u/JurboVolvo 9h ago

Having these people not on the street wouldn’t help? This is what we get for treating these people like animals for decades. It’s become much more of a thing than it needed to. Whatever reason they are there. Drugs, Mental Health, Unstable lives, whatever they should be treated better. Just my opinion here but if you don’t want them to act like animals, don’t treat them like animals. There should be access to public washrooms, clean up crews, street nurses and other services doing outreach.

Quick one last public safety appeal before the election 🙄

Wonder if they'll hold posting about this until after election day.p

election day must be coming up 🤣

The best way to get this solved is to relocate all the homeless to kitsilano

I can't believe they're still using the fear mongering "stranger attack" rhetoric.

5

u/mega_douche1 6h ago

Do you have a more accurate description of these events?

-2

u/polemism EchoChamber 6h ago

It's well documented that the majority of victims know their assailant, so fear mongering about strangers is illogical and misleading.

1

u/mega_douche1 6h ago

That really depends on who you are. I feel I'm more at risk of attack from these lunatics than people I know. I don't associate with violent people and I've been personally threatened by lunatics downtown.

-1

u/polemism EchoChamber 6h ago

Blaming victims for choosing the wrong family or neighbours is pretty stupid.

Right before the election wow

u/thinkdavis 1d ago

Right before an election? This must be fake news for votes!

u/Existing-Screen-5398 1d ago

Is it pro-Sim propaganda because he’s our tough on crime guy, or anti-Sim because he had his time and there are still crimes????

17

u/justoffmainst Riley Park 23h ago

The pro-police folks can never have enough cops or feel safe enough and ABC is all about the police funding so it is pro Sim

-8

u/thinkdavis 23h ago

Why can't it be both?!

0

u/Existing-Screen-5398 23h ago

Cannot compute. Cannot compute.

u/thinkdavis 23h ago

-2

u/Existing-Screen-5398 22h ago

I think we are the only two appreciating this.

-2

u/thinkdavis 16h ago

We're sophisticated.

u/Existing-Screen-5398 10h ago

Double election season has everyone on edge. Once the elections are over I hope it hails or something so we can go back to posting hundreds of pictures of the same thing.

0

u/thinkdavis 9h ago

Cannot wait for 30 photos of that amazing double rainbow

-3

u/VideoGameJumanji 23h ago

Have the last 10+ years of the VPD being incapable of their jobs also just 24/7/365 fake news for votes?

17

u/nataliereed84 22h ago

Honest question, but… what do you expect them to do here? How are cops supposed to prevent random, unprovoked stranger assaults? Have a huge army of them monitoring every street corner at all times? Have cameras recording every second of our lives, across the entire city?

By the time cops respond to an attack like this, the attacker is usually long gone. And unless you somehow get a photograph or something in the midst of the attack, the cops won’t be able to find them. “middle-aged 5’7” white guy in a black jacket” or something is not sufficient to locate a suspect in a major city. So they just take your statement and go on their way.

I know this shit because I’ve been a victim of random stranger attacks! MULTIPLE TIMES.

The only way to address the problem is to look at the larger upstream issues contributing to this. Like our SEVERELY inadequate mental health supports. Or the level of alienation amongst the poor. Or racism. Not just throwing more cops at the problem.

6

u/bitmangrl 22h ago

the problem is lack of consequences and a catch and release justice system

-2

u/nataliereed84 19h ago

The perpetrators in question aren’t being caught in the first place, and I think it’s remarkably naive to think these are people making rational decisions and weighing pros and cons and who would suddenly change their behaviours if the consequences were moderately more severe.

1

u/bitmangrl 2h ago

that is why society needs to be protected from them as a first priority
