Emulating Bloodborne on PC is getting better and is now fully playable with constant graphic glitch updates, As long as you have a decent CPU.

Might as well start now and put all the money you would’ve spent on their products in the next year and a half towards a PC.

Holy shit. I thought this was for first party games but across the board
This is really bad because digital games don’t go on sale as often. How can Amazon drop prices for Black Friday without any stock?

u/Necessary_Refuse_962 Jul 01 '26
As someone who moved back in 2018, I'd strongly recommend looking to make a PC move within the next few years.
I'm not saying this in an elitist way at all. It's just been a better experience.
If I want a game, it's usually on sale. 50% of the time I've looked for a game I want, it's been on sale. If it's not, key websites are selling it for pennies. The ultimate edition of Arkham Knight for example is always going for about $3.
If you want to play on TV, Steam has a big picture mode that gives it a console interface.
Literally, I have my Xbox controller connected. I press the home button, it brings up a dashboard menu. I can quit the game, go back to my library, see my friends list. The entire thing is usable with just a controller and a TV.
It's just a better experience making that move. Rebuilding your library doesn't take too long when any game older than 5 years ends up on sale for $3 multiple times a year. Backwards compatibility isn't a thing. If you wanna play that PS3 era game, you can, without relying on cloud streaming it.

u/Octopus_on_fire_ Jul 01 '26
Not to dick ride or neckbeard, but this guy is 100% right.
PC gaming is superior in every single way.
No online fee just to play games online (have internet is the only requirement)
Want to use a controller? ANY controller? Go ahead.
Massive customization options for games both in game and outside with graphics, keybinds etc. programs like Auto Hot Key to rebind hard coded controls.
Huge catalog of old games that are massively cheap.
Emulators to play any Classic Nintendo-N64 free. Seriously, people overlook this but they even have a virtual boy emulator (for all six people who want it). Every Sega console, every Nintendo console, with every single game available for free.
The ONLY downside is the cost of entry, but with the next price hike of consoles, consoles will probably just be a hair cheaper than building a decent low/midrange PC.
14
u/zgillet Jul 01 '26
There's a Virtual Boy emulator on my 3DS and my Quest 2.
I'll save some pussy for the rest of you.
16
11
u/Necessary_Refuse_962 Jul 01 '26
Forgot about the online fee lmao. It's been so long.
PC might be a bit more expensive to enter, but that $100 a year you're paying or whatever it is, you'll offset it easily.
$700 PS5 or $1,000 PC. 6 years later, that's now a $1,300 PS5 and a $1,000 PC. Plus you'll have more games to play because they're just cheaper and a larger variety of them.
Even if you got a pre-built PC on credit or a payment plan, it's worth anybody looking to plan financially over the next few years so they can move over, in my opinion.
There's nothing a console offers now that PC doesn't do better. The only reason to stay is inertia.

It’ll cost an arm and a leg to build a PC for the next few years, but the benefits of owning it in the long run will out weigh the damage done to your wallet by a lot assuming you’re being strategic with your game purchases on PC

u/Embarrassed_Field_84 Jul 01 '26
As a pc gamer basically since high school I dont think the argument was which was objectively superior or not ever. It was always PC. It was more of a question of convenience. Yes PC is better but it does require more finagling, more technical skills to debug, building a PC, etc etc. Sometimes weird bugs with particular hardware settings.
Console has the benefit of the devs knowing exactly which machine theyre working with and hyper optimizing for a streamlined experience on that. So basically for someone who is technical enough to build their own PC, PC was always the right choice, but theres a huge market of ppl that just dont want to be bothered and just want a convenient dedicated machine that just works for gaming
5
u/Necessary_Refuse_962 Jul 01 '26
As much as I'm tempted to agree, I think that gap is massively shrinking.
You'll rarely ever find a PC game that has some weird bug exclusive to your system that you have to troubleshoot yourself.
The only examples I could think of are older games back in the 360 era and before, but even then, it doesn't really happen.
30
u/HellPigeon1912 Jul 01 '26
This is really bad because digital games don’t go on sale as often.
Final nail in the coffin for pre-owned game stores too.
25 years ago I could walk into a store as a broke kid and grab a handful of cheap games because there were massive buckets of traded in physical games. A lot of crap, but some real hidden gems and plenty to keep you busy if you're not fussy.
Today there's so few physical games circulating compared to the total sales, most of the stores near me sell them barely cheaper than new.
I'm guessing from 2028 onwards these stores will just die a slow death

A defining experience of our generation is going to GameStop to trade in like 10 games to get some kinda shovelware game because it had a cartoon character we liked

u/Jan090501 Jul 01 '26
They will put a code in the box. Rockstar went first and now Sony is going second. Sony always waits for someone to take the bad PR first.
5
u/pumpkinspicecum Jul 01 '26
to be fair... digital games go on sale ALL the time on playstation, so not sure what you're talking about. they always have a sale, sometimes multiple sales, and it's always around 1500-2000 games that are on sale. a lot of them are crap but most of them aren't. still, i wouldn't buy any of the big expensive games digital only.

Yes, please support GOG. Galaxy is pretty good for cloud storage and auto updating, besides having a storefront.
In the last few years, with everything that's been going on in the world, I almost always check if a game is available on GOG before buying it on Steam. GOG has also been greatly expanding its catalogue recently, with many games that have only been available on Steam and old games that weren't available anymore and were made to work for modern systems.
Support GOG, support game ownership and preservation, and support a European company while you're at it.
12
u/Mystical-Turtles Jul 01 '26
In fact I think the only physical releases I ever see for PC anymore are grandma games, like those hidden object/card games. And even then I'm pretty convinced those are new old stock from 2012 still floating around at Walmart.

True, but at least you’re not required to pay an extra subscription just to play multiplayer games online. Also you can always check GOG for games where you can backup the full installation file somewhere and never have to worry about no longer having access to it. You can even burn it to a disc if you have a disc writer on your PC

Concsoles are mostly about being affordable compared to a pc. Not everyone has the funds for a decent one. Add the ease of use from a console compared to a pc and you have to very big reasons to still own a console.
I switched about two years ago to pc, love it and it made le understand the whole pc master race because it is quite superior to console but i would be lying if i didn’t say i miss the ease of use of my console.
5
u/Correct_Emotion8437 Jul 01 '26
Sony and Microsoft trying to solve that problem, too. I’ve read it might be $1000 for the ps6 thanks to memory prices. Meanwhile, I’ve got an 8 year old desktop that’s still more powerful than my Xbox.

Honestly, at prices like 700 bucks and I don't know if that's really true anymore. A PS5 isn't the equivalent to a 1200$+ pc. Even at 700 i am thinking you could probably match performance pretty well..

Moved from Xbox back in 2018. Best decision I ever made.
Even the older arguments about controller or playing on TV isn't even valid anymore.
Steam has big picture mode that gives it a console interface for your TV.
I spend half my time gaming on my TV. It's not the same situation it was a few years ago.

Literally no point buying consoles anymore, especially if they're nearing $1000.
At that price point, and for digital only, you might as well move to PC.
Honestly, this is going to make me rethink buying a PS6.

And for those console guys who are interested in moving over instead of dropping 1k on a console:
https://pcmasterrace.org/builds#buildmidrange

Thanks for posting this! I’ve always been a console guy and just thought the whole pc build to be intimidating. I may have to start looking into this. I want a console experience but I see the versatility of pc and think that’s pretty cool.
8
u/Bstallio Jul 01 '26
Of course! I was in the same boat once, pc building is fairly simple once you realize everything is labeled and has a place, recommend watching a video briefly before trying so you can see what I mean.
One big downside to pc I should warn you about though is that if a problem did arise it can be a bit of a pain to diagnose yourself, but in my 15 years of pc gaming I’ve only run into huge problems once.

u/Necessary_Refuse_962 Jul 01 '26
Yeah, part of the selling point is they were willing to sell consoles at a loss.
You could pick up an Xbox for £400 where a comparable PC was £600-£700.
They're not even trying to do this anymore so what's the point. I get that AI has made things more expensive, but I just don't care. It's anti-consumer no matter which way you cut it.
At least on PC, we also have infinite backwards compatibility and almost Sony's entire library anyway.
10
u/BiAndShy57 Jul 01 '26
$1000 for a ps6 or $1000 for a steam machine that, even if it is overpriced for the hardware, it is still a whole computer not just a video game machine
6
u/AwarenessForsaken568 Jul 01 '26
The steam machine isn't even a good reference point. It's not a good value for the money. You can get a PC that is double the performance for like $100 more. Just take an hour and build an entry level PC.

I bought the Steam Deck back when it was still $500. It's actually crazy.
You can actually play anything on it. RDR2 runs fine at medium settings, 45 FPS. Even if you're doing modern AAA like Starfield, you can get by with 30-45 FPS on low.
Crazy playing games that released yesterday on a handheld.

And they're all using "AI" as their excuse to jack prices. It's such a scam, and look at people (not you) falling for it left and right. "Oh these poor manufacturers, they just HAVE to pay so much.." give me a break. Not to mention the storage manufacturers who have had time to increase production by now but aren't, because they too love the jacked up prices. And yet consumers have been brainwashed to somehow feel empathy.. for these companies.. it's amazing.
→ More replies (1)7
u/Necessary_Refuse_962 Jul 01 '26
It's more difficult than it sounds. Chip manufacturing isn't easy.
Part of this is on the chip manufacturers too. They went for money, rather than the consumer and it's costing everyone.
Sony should just eat most of the loss regardless.
Instead, we've gone from "we'll sell this console at a loss" to "AI has made it more expensive, so let's sell it at a profit now."
11
u/HellPigeon1912 Jul 01 '26
I always preferred consoles for the comfort of sitting on the sofa in front of the TV with a controller, and being based in the "main room" of the house while gaming rather than having to hide away in a separate room where the computer is
Over the last couple of console generations, enough new hardware and peripherals have become available for PC to make that distinction meaningless. It's become relatively affordable and easy to set up your PC so you can game like a console on it.
Have to wonder what console developers think they have to offer going forward if they still expect people to buy them

The loss of physical media is unfortunate. Losing access to owning your media is a disappointment. Laws really need to be passed to require digital media licenses to be treated the same as physical media licenses.
Honestly there’s not that much of a reason to continue with a Sony console other than exclusives. Assuming a PS6 will be $1000 to $1500 and a locked down system. An upgradable PC seems like a much better value proposition. PC gamers often teased console gamers as to why would they buy a console when the PC offered so much more functionality. Other than usually getting the game first there was also physical media ownership.
This choice really throws a wrench into my game collecting. There are exclusive games I enjoy for Sony that I will seriously have to do some soul-searching for. I do not want to buy a $1000+ console to play just a handful of titles that will also be marked up to $100 games.

Anyone who bothers to be a thoughtful consumer knew GTA 6 was going to be a industry setter. Companies were gonna do exactly what rockstar does for the game. Your have to be really dumb to not know that.
The endhitification and removal of ownership continues for video gaming.
The recent news of sony taking peoples movie libraries away with no refunds should be a warning but people will still mindlessly buy.
Digital isn't the issue. The issue is the fact if something changes Sony can take away what you paid for and say Fuck you.
Remember when Ubisodt shut down the crew and if you bought it you couldn't play the single player.
Now before people talk about PC. First there's GOG that sell DRM free games. There's piracy and then steam is pretty consumer friendly on this.
I own a few games delisted from Steam. Battlestar Galactice Deadlock and Friday the 13th being good examples. I can still download and play them. In Friday the 13ths case the company shut down online servers. Which is a risk for any game with a multiplayer mode or even if it's entirely multiplayer.
Microsoft stopped selling movies. But left movie libraries untouched. They also shut down the store for the 360 but I can still download and play my digital games on the 360 or on any Xbox
It can't vary based on company. If we buy something we should be able to play it whenever we want. Online multiplayer support is a different subject. But if buying isn't owning then piracy ain't stealing.

There's no way that this is Rockstar's fault. The way companies make decisions like this takes a TON of time, like at least a few months of the decision going up and down the chain to get reviewed in triplicate. There's no way Sony came to this decision just as a result of Rockstar doing this two weeks ago. If anything, this is a case of two companies coming to the same conclusion in the face of the same market pressures.
That said, I'll echo what someone else said and say might as well pivot to PC. If you're going to have to buy games digitally anyway, might as well have your collection primarily be with a company like Steam that has made the digital thing very consumer-friendly over a company like Sony, that just this week revoked rights to hundreds of purchased movies from customers (I know that this licensing thing isn't purely Sony's fault, but still).

This is a decision aiming for 2 years in the future. And it's reasonable to assume they already knew there would be no disc for GTA way before us. They probably just wanted to see how well the game would sell before announcing it.

My chronic illness keeps getting worse and worse, and my dad who I was incredibly close to took his own life in May. It's hard to keep rolling with the punches when they just get harder and harder.

The only reason for this is 💰
They already have a digital storefront.
By removing the disk from the box and printing the code on a piece of paper they remove the ownership which effectively kills the resale of the games by gamers.
Not only are they getting more 💲💲💲 from not having to print the disk but also everyone who wants a game will have to buy a brand new copy of it.

So they are going to try and sell a 1000+ dollar underpowered PC, with a forced subscription to play online, that won’t be able to read your ps5 disc games they sold you?
I need a hardcore PlayStation fan boy to explain to me why you wouldn’t just spend the extra money on a PC at that point.
Is a playthrough of GoW Laufey or Wolverine really worth having such a terrible product

hahaha we got fucked :D if yall stop buing games now maybe we can still turn it around

u/Cronogato Jul 01 '26
If buying isn't owning, pirating isn't stealing. How's the PS5 scene this days?

Gaming is fucked, expensive consoles, Xbox and PlayStation being at their lowest points, ram and ssd through the roof, economy through the roof, now this? It might over for gaming

u/bman2881 Jul 01 '26
Movies bought? Gone, no compensation. No GTA discs at all. whole thing now is making me more worried about GTA6. (Now that’s it’s been brought up) Obviously it’s going to smash records.
But part of me is really nervous that we are going to suddenly see a whole new age of micro-transactions and things paywalled to get exclusive perks other than what is being done with day one exclusives.
Like I said, just a feeling. And my PKE meter went off too. But that could be a separate issue.

I blame all y’all goofy fucks who kept preordering shitty $70 games that required you to buy 3 $30 DLCs that came out the same day. The majority of the gaming industry has been bending over to get raw dogged and constantly asking for more fucking and less lube.

soon in the near future it'll be like
No more physical version of consoles, only digital ones and you don't own them, we will take it away after a period of time. Get used to not owning consoles.
Irony is, people would still buy it.

u/Equivalent_Rest8499 Jul 01 '26
I’ll blame Sony, thanks. Time to sail the seven seas I think, me hearties!

u/rharrow Jul 01 '26
I mean…. The writing’s been on the walls for years. Idk why anyone is surprised? As soon as consoles released with a version of no disc drive, I knew the next generation would be download only
3
u/Woody_The_Gamer Jul 01 '26
This isn't Rockstar or Sony's fault as all physical media eventually gets phased out.

u/sneakysnake1111 Jul 01 '26
.... When Microslop did this, we crashed them. They were forced to change.
Why can't we unite to do that?

L Sony. RIP physical discs.
If it means we're all going all-digital moving forward, I'm just going to stick with my PC.

I blame Sony
And Microsoft, Nintendo, Valve, EA, Take Two too
They all have had shady business practices and it all adds up. Pro-consumerism has no place for fanboyism.

We can blame all big Gaming Corpos except Nintendo, they at least promised that all 1st Party Games will be physical on Card. That not something Sony and Xbox can say about themselves.

u/laufey92 Jul 01 '26
„shifting consumer preferences“
Disc version outsold digital version 5:1

Good thing the only consoles I mess with are atleast 20 years old.
And I feel like this was inevitable anyway. Discs are becoming more obsolete by the day.
2
u/DM725 Jul 01 '26
They'll do an entire generation of digital sales and then make a console (PS7?) with no backwards compatibility and force you to pay for them again or keep your old console.

u/No-Contest-8127 Jul 01 '26
This is completely unnaceptable. Codes in a box and digital games cannot be resold and breach the law in the EU. The fact that they still sold discs is what saved them from it. There will be consequences. It's why nintendo went to key cards as well.

Well, I guess I won't be buying Playstation games anymore after 2028. If I am going to be forced into digital gaming at least PC isn't a walled garden.

u/Kayerif Jul 01 '26
One of the only reasons I own a console is to have a little collection of discs like I did as a kid and now that’s gone. Great

Well it looks like I'm never getting any Playstation in the future my last one was PS4.
2
u/esarmstr Jul 01 '26
What people fail to realize with the gaming industry as a whole is that this current generation is completely anti consumer.
*Microtransactions. *Drip feeding of content and pay to win mechanics. *Poor quality and unfinished games at release. *Subscriptions, Subscriptions, and more Subscriptions. *Lack of innovation with mostly cookie cutter titles.
2
u/Charming-Station7157 Jul 01 '26
if that so , the ps6 doesn't have an excuse for being 1000 dollars since the disc drive won't be included

Hold on What Rockstar is doing sucks. But let's be real. Sony is a corporation this desicion was probably made months ago. And discussed in meetings for sometime
2
u/Fujikawa1988 Jul 01 '26
So they can delete them from
Your library 8-10 years later. Somehow I lost a pretty amount of digital games, I checked this week after the news they where removing films. Sony is completely done in my book, I’ll never spend a single cent on games in their eco system

u/XenoCraigMorph Jul 01 '26
Then digital gaming has to change completely.
Reduce prices, give full ownership and protection for a digital license. With how awful Sony's security is, people will lose their games if accounts get hacked and sold. Ownership needs to go a step beyond a PSN account. The ability to actually refund digital games within a set timeframe from starting the application.
I don't want this at all, physical media is yours forever. Stupid fucking decision.

So now, consoles are a 800€ hub for downloading drm locked games. Great. Great great great.
No more used market, no more preservation. Nada.
edit: STOP WITH GAMESTOP omg 😂 go on consumer to consumer platforms instead. If you're in Europe, download Vinted, it's not just to buy cute skirts.
