Image / Video Two minute apart from each other

Post image

This is just wild. PlayStation wanted to end their partnership with Hideo Kojima. So Xbox was like: "Your loss."

This year is really starting to feel like an inverse of 2014 when Xbox ruined their public image with some insane Always Online DRM requirements and PlayStation capitalized on that.

Granted, Microsoft and Xbox are almost equally shit at the moment. It’s a real would you rather get slapped in the face or kicked in the nuts type situation. PC is definitely the favored platform but building one has unfortunately ballooned a lot in price.

"Ballooned a lot in price" is the understatement of the decade. lol

Zeppelin-ed, if you will

I like it. Ballooned then blew and burned

Some components are literally 3x as expensive as they were just a year ago, it is absolutely insane. I'm glad I got my build when I did 😪

The good thing about PC is that there's a huge performance range available in the form of both past and present games so that there's potentially something at most price ranges that can tide you through these tough times.

Also it can make someone look at what they really want to play. I couldn't really care about the next open world AAA game. They don't move me. But some weird pixel art or B rate boomer shooter. Ya il play it. And that means I don't really need top specs. Mid lvl parts will get be a good 8 years.

Just please don't review bomb companies if a title doesn't run well on your card.

My 1080ti is still going okay.

It's my i7-5700 that actually is the bottle kneck at the moment

My GTX 1080 loves some modern games too

That’s reassuring. I played Postal 4 and it was near impossible. But might be cpu bottlenecking me but rendering was intense in that game

That's what I did. Original plan was to have a PC that could play my favorite old games. I did make a few upgrades since then so I get decent performance on newer games, but it's definitely not a high-end setup. Mostly I'm playing games that are 10-15 years old.

What about great AAA linear games? And if there’s really good AA games that require decent specs?

1

u/Trashypass Sep 10 '26

Most AAA need high specs. Cuz they don't optimize for shit. Borderlands 4 is a great example of this. Think push top hardware to there limits. Yet it not used basic graphics as it normal look. They ai isn't much smart then there 360 version from back then. And map are only a little bigger in comparison. It's just poorly put together.

Now you may run into a game in the AA space they need high specs. You could push your part useing overclock. Just another program. Or wait till it optimize a little better. Which can happen.

Worst case. Your just boned. Till you get better partd or a new PC. When I played on my PC 10-15 I only ran into 6 games that just wouldn't run. Of which 4 where console games they had PC version.

Don’t know too much about PC specs but what I learned is that usually you want to either have a console or have a laptop/PC that actually has similar specs to a console. Although I much prefer console personally after having a gaming laptop for a few years alongside my PS5 (with PS5 like specs)

1

u/Trashypass Sep 11 '26

Yes console specs are basically mid tier as there a delay between when it was designed. And when the parts are made. Normally by like 3 years.

Of course this was before PC parts becoming a issue to get. Cuz of AI. Which is why console parts are going nuts. But there nothing we can do about that.

So yes you aim to build or get a per built as console specs. Anyone will have a pretty good time for a majority of games.

I know I’m a smidge late to the party to bring this doomer take but do we think these times are just tough and not a new normal that is pushed? My PC will be a bit overdue for an upgrade by next year I think, and I’m having a hard time finding the will to upgrade it. The thought of paying triple the price for some products that skyrocketed in price just a year or so earlier just makes me so reluctant, that once my computer stops being able to play new games, I’m genuinely considering just not playing new games on my PC until something changes.

We really need to just wait and see if the AI bubble bursts and what happens/what comes next if it does. GPU’s never settled in price after the insanity of the coin mining era because we rolled straight into the RAM insanity of the AI era, but if that bubble bursts the hope would be that both RAM and therefore GPU’s find their level at their actual value.

The people who are financing the current price spikes are in the process of vacuuming up so much of America's venture capital and business loans that other businesses are being forced to look for loans on the international market.

Meawhile there revenue from AI is relatively paltry and highly subsidized. This is simply not sustainable and when the bubble pops major investors are likely to be very skittish about funding new build out that doesn't have an iron clad reason to exist.

In the unlikely case that it is the new nomral than more capacity will be built and prices will normalize.

1

u/FullMetalCOS Sep 10 '26

Also, whilst the parts are expensive, you can get such crazy deals on games that you can balloon your library really quickly even on a budget, especially if you take advantage of sites like Humble. You get so much value back from cheap as fuck games you never get to realise on console.

2

u/Maximum-Objective-39 Sep 10 '26

Equally important, even with these godawful component prices, unless you're utterly committed to playing the fanciest AAA games at the highest res, you're gonna potentially get 6 to 8 years of utility out of a PC these days.

It's the flip side of hardware no longer advancing by leaps and bounds.

8

u/theinfernumflame Sep 10 '26

For sure. I'm very glad I built my PC a few years ago before prices got insane.

I think saying "almost equally" is really disregarding a lot of the great things about the Xbox ecosystem as opposed to what Sony is doing. Options for digitizing your physical disks so discless/PC systems can play them, free PC versions of games with Play Anywhere, they managed to secure Kojima for the next (at least) ten years, they're moving back into exclusivity as the majority of players were calling for to make their platform more enticing. There's still a lot of unknowns and some of the decisions are questionable but I think it's fair to give credit and not pull them down with this absolute farce that is Sony right now.

But the US is falling lol. Rapidly...

Granted, Microsoft and Xbox are almost equally shit at the moment.

And thus we will see more fake outrage articles against Valve

2

u/Flying_Forearm Sep 10 '26

"fake outrage'. There are emails proving that they've been enforcing price parity on developers to maintain their massive cut and market dominance.

PC is not really better, Steam is not your friend
