This is the only time quick time events are acceptable, if failing them causes something hilarious to happen. Could also see the validity of hiding a secret ending behind a failed one. Bonus points if it's the good ending. If you just do QTEs to do them, though, it makes me want to wash my eyes out with bleach and metal shavings

The tomb raider ones were so brutal you didnt want to fail them

yeah a lot of the deaths felt like the design team REALLY had a Laura death fetish.

Ah man, the spiked stick through the bottom jaw and out the mouth was the worst!

There are people on reddit who definitely have this fetish

When you see how Core Design was pressed by Eidos to make new Lara Croft game it became understable

i know we are here talking about the reboot, but classic lara also had quite a lot of death animations, especially the drowning one

Wow, I went and checked what all the fuss was about and wish I hadn't. Never was a big TR fan but wow, didn't realize the reboot games were that brutal!

They toned them down a bit in the sequels but still...the first one was brutal for no reason at all. Very weird and sticks out like a sore thumb

I liked it a lot… is it not really considered one of the good ones among the community?

I'm not talking about the quality of the games overall. I'm specifically talking about the death scenes. Fwiw the first reboot TR was my favourite one or rise

I love those games but whenever I died I’d close my eyes for a few seconds to avoid the death scenes. If you got stuck on a platforming section having to watch them over and over again was brutal.

Not really a quick time event but Farcry 5 has a secret ending (and arguably the best one) at the very beginning of game.

If you don’t click the prompt to arrest the cult leader, your character just turns around and walks away and the game ends

I actually remember getting that blind on my first playthrough because I was cooking while playing. Don't do much of that anymore. Not since the incident(s)

What were the other ones‽

u/DarkPrincessEcsy Sep 11 '26

Oh, I was referring to the incidents where I burned my food while playing games lmao

4 had pretty much the same thing, and honestly it was the morally correct option. Either he rules or you have a religious ethnostate or a country who's major export is illegal drugs. Oh yea, and both have undertones that they'd govern in very similar if not worse ways.

Yeah, I like QTEs to be like reading a "choose your own adventure" book, where failure is almost as rewarding as success. I intentionally failed every QTE in Telltale's Jurassic Park game at least once. Not all of them were rewarding, but some of them really were.

But, how many QTEs are actually in this game? I've seen videos that were clearly cut together to make it look like that's all there were. I don't think nostalgia addicts realize how easily you could do the same thing with the first Spider-Man game that they all call a masterpiece. After a recent replay, I was frankly kind of surprised to realize how much hand-holding that game does.

Deadspace. Cross your heart, hope to die

I'd say Mass Effect 2 and 3's interrupts were pretty great.

This motherfucker goes out the window every single time.
