An original story for a Far Cry movie sounds fine, but dogshit opinions like this bodes ill. Not respecting the source material is bad enough though not a dealbreaker, but the disrespecting the medium is another level. As far as I know, Verhoeven likes books despite not being a fan of the novel Starship Troopers.
Usually when someone makes an IP show but shows open disdain for the source material, it can mean they had their own idea for a show and used the IP adaptation they got hired for as an excuse to make it, with cursory nods to the original.
