But it should be understood by the IP holder that a director that puts their identity of directing above the identity of the IP is a bad bet to make. Look at the Halo TV show for an example.
Then look at The Last of Us, specifically season 1. It had the creative director of the game directly involved, and the narrative was fantastic. Made loads, and put actors on the mainstream map like Bella Ramsey. Look at Fallout for the same setup.
The only Ubisoft people attached to this project are executives that are acting as producers. They are not learning from what has been successful in the video game adaptation space. Best of luck to them.
While Uwe Bill hate is always reasonable and wise, his level of talent is definitely is a FAR CRY from Noah Hawley’s who has only ever made exceptional TV content (showrunner for Legion and Fargo and Alien: Earth).
And in both cases it's REALLY short sighted money. Look at how Sonic, after listening to fans, and have a creative team that is passionate about the series, has been well regarded and made tons of money. They could have franchises like that, instead they want to push out a bunch of poorly received products that might maybe make their money back when if they did a good job they could milk it for way way longer.
People that care cost more and spend more money on the effort taken to make the show good. The Witcher series was able to shit out a few seasons before people got fed up enough so often times it's still profitable as people who don't care still watch
Because every single television show he has made has been an adaptation that’s been true to the source material and incredibly well made. None of his shows review poorly by professional critics or audience scores. This is an odd quote but he has more than earned the benefit of the doubt.
Far Cry is an anthology series, no two games carry on the story of the other. That begs the question, what makes a Far Cry story? To me it means you’re a fish out of water that has to go against extreme odds to survive and usually search for a form of justice.
Long way to say I’d say the way to be true to the source material is to make a new story that follows the themes, rather than trying to emulate the story beats of any particular installment.
No. Far Cry is a single game, made by Crytek and titled in reference to their studio name.
Anything from FC2 onwards is just Ubisoft recycling the Far Cry name for entirely unrelated games simply for fanbait.
It's not an anthology series.
It's just them slapping an established name on it because it makes it sell better.
To me it means you’re a fish out of water that has to go against extreme odds to survive and usually search for a form of justice.
Which is a very generic story setup that could probably be applied to many already existing movies. Makes it real easy for someone to shoehorn their own unrelated script into.
That’s certainly an opinion. I’d say it’s both a singular game and an anthology series. Just because you view them through such a cynical lens does not make the games any less of a series.
The original Far Cry story is generic. That’s why I described it that way. Unless you believe there is something special about the premise that’s escaping me. A former spec ops dude fighting mutants on an island is not exactly groundbreaking stuff.
My main point still stands. Noah Hawley has earned the benefit of the doubt. Maybe he fucks this up, I don’t know. But his track record is very impressive so far.
It's an anthology not by intent but merely by milking the I.P. name. And not even by the original developer. That's why I refuse to accept the term for it. Crytek surely didn't intend the series to be an anthology. Just Ubisoft misappropriating the name as fanbait.
The original Far Cry story is generic too, yes. That's what I'm saying, there's no really unique story thread that links Far Cry games together. You can't make a TV show with a new story that is recognizable as Far Cry.
The only common recognizable thread among the Ubisoft made Far Cry games is their open world gameplay formula.

the better question is why they are given permission to do so in the first place
