Other I Had a Great Idea for a Video Game

I had a great idea for a video game and I offer this up to anyone who wants to use it since I do not have the skill set necessary to do anything with it. It's basically Final Destination the Game. It's one of those Dead by Daylight types but instead of a killer you can escape or defeat, the "killer" is Death. Death's goal is to kill the other players but rather than being a physical guy running around, they are playing in like a spectator mode, but they can set up traps and trigger things to kill the survivors. The survivors meanwhile would be trying to live their lives, and avoid death as long as possible, maybe there are random rules limiting Death that the survivors could figure out to help themselves and the survivors have tasks they need to accomplish. But the big difference is, there is no escaping Death. It would be a points system, so survivors get more points they longer they survive, while Death would get points for killing quickly, but get much more points for making the death's elaborate. You could hit someone with a truck, quick, easy netting you some points or you could place a toaster beside the bath, and the toaster falls in the bath but unplugs from the wall, it still startles the survivor and they knock the soap onto the floor, they get out of the bath and slip on the soap and they bath curtain wraps around their neck and they are strangled to death which would net you tonnes of points. Then it becomes a lot more of a mind game, like a survivor notices a tap turning on and water overflowing from a sink. Do you turn the tap off? Moving towards the tap could be the killers goal though and they are setting you up for a drowning death. Do you leave it? If the water spreads far enough you could be electrocuted to death. Do you just leave? What if that's Death's goal and they've set up something to hit you on the way out?

Discussion / Question Xbox kinect for young kids?

I have two young boys (4 and 2) and my oldest loves gaming and my youngest is starting to go the same way. The other day they were watching Danny Go on Netflix and jumping around copying the movement and stuff and the xbox kinect came to mind. Had a look and I can get a console with the sensor and games for a decent price. Any reason why this wouldn't be a good idea?

Oldest will be 5 in January and it'll probably be a Christmas present so I think he'll be fine following the instructions and the sensor picking up his movements and stuff?

Any help is much appreciated

Discussion / Question How often has this happened to you in stealth games?

  • You sneak up to the enemy.
  • You are an 0.1 inch from the enemy.
  • The enemy turns around AT THE VERY LAST SECOND before you assassinate the enemy.
  • Chaos ensues
  • You reload the save.
  • You spend the next 2 hours trying to figure out how best assassinate the enemy.

Discussion / Question Games in their Prime

What current multiplayer game is in its prime?

I feel that every big multiplayer game hitting the top charts is 5+ years out of its prime. Overwatch, Fortnite, Call of Duty, Valorant, League, and many others are out of it but still massive.

Discussion / Question What's a game that deviates drastically from the conventions of its genre?

Post image

For example, the first Blasphemous is a metroidvania without any conventional movement upgrades; your only traversal abilities come in the form of Relics, which can only manipulate the environment around you or alter your properties rather than expand your moveset, that you need to do some extremely thorough exploration and/or sidequests to find. They aren't even mandatory for main story progression at all, which makes the game feel like its own beast where you must truly dig deep into Cvstodia to discover its secrets with no instruction or aid from the game design.

It's extremely obtuse at times and doesn't tell you much about what you can find or how to find it, but that makes for an incredibly rewarding gameplay loop in its own way, and along with the beautifully violent Spanish Catholic art direction, a world that feels truly alive and ripped straight from a forgotten tome from the Middle Ages.

Blasphemous 2 is a much more traditional metroidvania with all the genre's usual trappings, and it does all of it exceptionally well, but there's something so special about the uniqueness and weirdness of the first game that I don't think can be easily replicated.

Discussion / Question RAMBO - ALL THE GAMES

My retrospective video review of all the Rambo games released. I grew up with with the early home computer and the Sega console versions. Also loved the arcades games too. However, not too fond of the later and more recent games. Most are pish. Let me know your favourite and I hope you watch and like my video too. It certainly took me flipping ages to make.

Discussion / Question Do you play multiple games at once or focus on one game at a time?

Now for me personally I have this weird habit of only playing, reading,or watching entertainment that I’m in the mood for. When I mean in the mood for I mean if I I’m craving that specific genre. For example if I’m in the mood for a zombie apocalypse game I’ll boot that up even if I’m in the middle of a hack and slash game like God of War III or something. This leads to me having like 10 or more active games I’m playing at one time with cycling between them when the mood strikes me. Sometimes I’ll play one game consistently but most of the time I’m cycling through many. This could lead to sometimes not finishing a game but that’s rare as I usually come back to it at some point but it definitely has happened unfortunately.

Discussion / Question What games feature unpredictability in the gameplay-progression binding?

It doesn't need to have multiple branching story plots but the structure of the dynamic environment (i.e. extensionally unto strategic developments, and intentionally parameters of tactical movements by non-player characters and objects external to player and perhaps even equippables) should come with degree of nondeterminible antifixedneaa: not completely unpredictable or utterly random, nor merely probabilistic or quasi-random, but with actual weighty events (unto progression of the quantified game by the player) from scale tiny to huge that don't follow narrow parameters. In other words, course of the game be prone to meander in different ways subtle and grandiose, nuanced and jarring, that don't follow a predefined nor even loosely predictable way, for reasons not that might or kightn't be affected by player's decisions but which zhe cannot guarantee following some certain path as such.

Discussion / Question How do you all find new games?

Steam is in my opinion terrible when it comes to finding new upcoming games and all that, OR I'm just too dumb to understand it which also is possible of course. Does anyone know how to find new upcoming games by any chance (with no Anime, UwU and all that), more like survival games, FPS... horror etcetera.

I know the game isn’t even out yet it said the trailer may not reflect game plan all that I’m just going on what they have showed us. What do you think about the graphics and the graphics only?

And also, this is game freak. game freak is different from the Pokémon company. The Pokémon company is the highest gross immediate franchise. The game is just the games. There is a difference. I wanna make that clear.

It's been 8 years since the scandal. A longer time than many prison sentences for violent crime including murder. If he decided that he wanted to have a go at game journalism again, independent or on a contract, do you think people would let him?

I've been trying to install Red Dead Redemption 2, since last night, and it keeps showing this message. It also did this with other games I installed, several times. Is my PS5 getting fried, or could this just be due to my internet?

Discussion / Question Unpopular opinion: nostalgia is carrying some video games harder than people want to admit

Sometimes I wonder how much of a game's reputation comes from its actual quality and how much comes from when people played it.

A game you grew up with can feel untouchable because you associate it with a certain time in your life. But if someone played it for the first time today, without those memories attached, would they have the same experience?

I'm not saying older games are bad. Plenty have aged incredibly well. I'm curious how many games people defend because they're genuinely great and how many benefit from nostalgia.
