MEGATHREAD Record Apps & Tools Megathread: Share Your Projects, Find Testers, and Give Feedback

We’ve seen an increase in posts from people building record-related apps and tools. These include collection managers, listening trackers, discovery tools, marketplace helpers, and other projects aimed at record enthusiasts.

We want to give these projects a place to be shared without letting individual promotional posts overwhelm r/vinyl or the reason this sub exists. Going forward, please use this megathread to introduce your project, request testers, share meaningful updates, or ask for feedback. Separate promotional posts for these projects will be removed and redirected here.

Projects are welcome whether they are traditionally coded, developed with AI assistance, or fully vibe coded. Be transparent about your approach, and keep the discussion focused on what the tool does, how it works, and whether it is useful to the record owning community.

If you’re sharing a project, please include:

·       Name and link: What is it called, and where can people find it?

·       Purpose: What does it do? What problem does it solve?

·       Your involvement: Are you the developer, owner, contributor, or otherwise affiliated?

·       Availability and cost: Is it a prototype, beta, or released product? Is it free, paid, ad-supported, or subscription-based?

·       Development approach: Was it traditionally coded, AI-assisted, or primarily vibe coded? A brief description is enough.

·       Data and permissions: Does it require an account, collection access, third-party credentials, or other personal information? Explain what you collect and how it is used. If user data is sent to an AI service, disclose that.

·       Feedback wanted: What would you like people to test or comment on? Include known limitations.

A few ground rules:

·       Keep projects relevant to records, collecting, or the vinyl listening experience.

·       Use one top-level comment per project. Add updates and answer questions in that comment’s replies.

·       No repeated sales pitches, unsolicited promotional messages, disguised advertising, or requests to upvote.

·       Be accurate about features, security, and reliability. Clearly identify unfinished or experimental projects.

·       Do not ask users to post passwords, API keys, or other sensitive information in the thread.

·       All subreddit rules still apply.

For anyone trying these tools:

Sharing a project here does not mean the r/vinyl moderators have reviewed or endorsed it. Review costs, permissions, and privacy practices before signing up or connecting your collection.

Useful feedback is encouraged. Discuss features, usability, accuracy, privacy, and reliability. Questions about AI use are fair, but personal attacks and arguments about who counts as a “real developer” are not.

If you find an app is not accurately representing what it does, what it collects, how it uses shared data, is somehow malicious or any number of other concerns, please message the Mod Team with a link to relevant comment.

Discussion How big is your record collection?

I started collecting in 2012 after buying my first home. I was so happy to finally have a place where I could crank the sound and not get yelled at. I fell deep down the rabbit hole those first several years, going to every record I store I could. If I was in a new town, the first thing i would look up is the closest record store. Vinyl had not blown up quite yet at this time but was definitely on the rise and I was able to get a lot of great used records for $15 and under so I built my collection quickly.

As time went on, life got busier, other hobbies took hold and stole my focus but I've always picked up at least 15-20 a year. Compared to those early days that is nothing but I have collected around 808 records in total (I use discogs to track what I have because I was tired of getting home to find out I already had a copy). That averages out to about 57 a year which is way more than any of the people I hang with but compared to some posts I've seen here, seems to be nothing.

Just curious where everyone is at in their journey and what some of their standouts are.

The two records that kicked off my journey were 1) Bruce Springsteen - Darkness on the edge of Town and 2) Eric Clapton - Money & Cigarettes.

Absolutely stoked to find these 4 yesterday. I’m super familiar with the material previously but having it on vinyl is really exciting. I forgot to remove the 45s. They’re from another day back in August.

Rainbow splatter, maggot brain variant came in, and it sounds awesome! Definitely one of the best looking pieces of wax I have now.

I have plenty of splatter vinyl, so I know that they can never look as good as the pictures, but wow, this really exceeded my expectations.

Sound is fantastic as well. I have the 45 version too, but this one sounds really good as well. You wouldn’t go wrong getting it.

I am a huge Carpenter fan and found this today still in shrink, so I opened it! Really satisfying cracking a 40-year old time capsule. Everything is pristine and smells like magic. Included is the super cool Enigma Records promotional insert with some rad stuff to mail order like an Agent Orange skateboard, a Goblin/Argento soundtrack, mfin TSOL. Record sounds great.

Jazz Jazz Haul

Been collecting since 2017 and realized my jazz collection is rather small so I’ve been adding to it especially with this latest haul.

I watched Michael Fremer’s YouTube on his 100 best all analog pressings and all of these are from that list. Definitely some albums I did not know about like Monty trio and Art Pepper and they are some of the best albums in the bunch which is saying a lot!

Included a pic of my current jazz folder. Strangely content with what I have. Enjoy the weekend everyone.

Finally got into collecting vinyl again after getting my setup shipped to me from back home. Been a wonderful year of rediscovering old favorites and grabbing new releases. Definitely a big focus on hip hop/rap but I've been enjoying how wonderful all the types of electronic music sounds on wax! Standouts in no particular order:

- Ninajirachi: I Love My Computer

- Clipse: Let God Sort Em' Out

- Pinkpantheress: Fancy That

- Isaiah Rashad: It's Been Awful

- Slayyyter: Worst Girl in America

Indie Literal roadside vinyl - The Miraculous Vespas feat. Bobby Bluebell - It's A Miracle

Found this on the street today and picked it up without thinking twice. Apparently it's a German indie rock band who only released this one single, but there's two versions with different B-sides. I have the variant with another song on it, the other one contains an interview. It might not be something special, but im curious as to why someone would just throw it put. Have you found any roadside vinyl yet?

Rock Released on this day in 2014, Billy Idol’s amazing Kings and Queens of The Underground album. This is such a top tier release! So good! Seen here is my copy.

This is Idol’s eighth studio album. Upon its release it went straight into the US Top 40 (Billboard). It also became a Top 10 hit in Switzerland and Germany. Record Collector stated "A fantastic and powerful rock album, Idol’s return commands attention", while Q Magazine proclaimed "Idol's magnetism is simply colossal, an invaluable commodity in these times." Rolling Stone was slightly less kind, "So much intensity can be unnerving coming from a man in his late fifties, but Idol makes up for it on the carefree "Can't Break Me Down," a punky pop tune with a "bang bang bang" chorus catchier than anything Fall Out Boy have written lately." Are people in their 50's supposed to no longer have intense feelings? I don't know, I am a long way off from my 50s. But I do know this album is amazing!

Article Review: Public Image Ltd on Rhino Reserve

Thumbnail

Public Image Ltd's controversial Album from 1986 was a stab at commerciality, recorded with studio aces like Ginger Baker, Bernie Worrell, Tony Williams, Ryuichi Sakamoto, and Steve Vai. The Rhino Reserve vinyl reissue tames the extreme treble of the original '80s pressing in favor of a warmer, more enduring sound.
