Urban Biodiversity Survey
Hi everyone! 👋
I’m a Level 6 university Product Design student currently researching how people experience nature and biodiversity in urban environments. I’m looking to understand how people interact with nature in their everyday lives, how it affects their wellbeing, and what might help them feel more connected to the natural world.
I’ve created a short survey and would really appreciate it if you could spare a few minutes to complete it. Your responses will help inform my university design project. All experiences and perspectives are welcome. Thank you for your time!

Kraków is a great city for walking, and after 4 years I've walked 2% of its streets
I walk a lot here. When I finally mapped every street I'd walked in 4 years, it came to 2% of the city. Almost all of it is the same few routes, over and over.
Since then I've been deliberately taking streets I've never walked, and it's changed how I see the city:
- I found passages between apartment blocks that I never knew existed. Shortcuts I'd walked past for years without noticing.
- Just changing my route to the supermarket turns up something new almost every time.
- On one street someone had hung a whole outfit on a fence with a note saying "można zabrać" (free to take). You only see that kind of thing on foot.

It made me wonder: is a walkable city only as walkable as the routes we actually use?
How much of your own city do you think you've really walked? And what makes you turn down a street you've never been down?
(I tracked this with a small iPhone app I'm building, Untrod. Happy to share it if anyone's curious, but I'm more interested in your answers.)

How would you describe your city using ONLY other cities?

Relocating to a walkable city changed my life
Hey everyone! I made a short documentary about relocating from my car-dependent hometown in Canada to Manchester and how experiencing a more walkable city changed my perspective on urban design in North American cities.
My film explores car dependency, walkability, and how cities can reinvent themselves. Would love to hear what you guys think!

looking for walkable new england city
my wife and i (we are queer) are looking to do our first big move from Minneapolis to somewhere a little smaller, more peaceful, less spread out. both of us are disabled and we can't drive due to that. i appreciate that MPLS is quite walkable overall, but i've lived here for almost 10 years now and my wife and i could use a fresh start!
we are looking to move out to the east coast next spring, preferably in new england. i have visited ME (followed the coast about 2/3rds the way up and visited several towns) and MA (salem mostly) and i fell in love with the walkability and historical feel of salem in particular. apartment hunting from such a distance has been a little difficult and overwhelming and i am looking for a bit of guidance on some places to start.
qualifications:
- walkable/<15 min public transit trip to a decent grocery store
- access to a larger city by bus/train for healthcare needs particularly, under 3 hours preferred
- budget is flexibly $2000/month for a 2 bedroom (prefer a duplex or home-turned-apartment sorta deal as opposed to a complex)
i know this leaves a lot of options open which is exactly my problem 😩 i would love to hear opinions from folks living in places like this so i can get my brain wheels turning sooner rather than later. thanks for your help in advance!!

Yonge and Sheppard, North York Toronto
Hi everyone!
Just came here to complain. I bought a house close but not too close to the main stroad that lies at the base of a strip between Sheppard and Finch on Yonge street.
I just wish the stroad was 4 lanes instead of 6 lanes. I would walk ALL OVER THE PLACE instead of Uber Eats and I would walk without noise cancelling earbuds and we could actually have a community!
Sadly this is the most walkable area in north York. Downtown has more, of course, but then you run into a lot more homelessness/chaos.
Just very jealous of all you people in Amsterdam/copenhagen/New York.
Happy walking everyone :)
