[Robins] Washington Wizards fans are dreaming up a rebrand, and the franchise is all ears
Justin Larson has loved the Washington Wizards his entire life.
Watching the team’s games remains one of his favorite pastimes. But over the past six months, he has developed a related hobby that he considers a passion project. Larson has designed new Wizards uniforms in the hope that team officials will rebrand the franchise. He shares his designs on X, and he attempts to catch the attention of some players and team executives by including their social media handles in his posts.
Larson regards the Wizards’ red, white and blue color scheme for their primary home and away jerseys, adopted in 2011 and based on the Washington Bullets’ uniforms of the 1970s and early ’80s, as outdated and unoriginal.
“I’m determined to keep pushing,” Larson said. “I realize that none of my designs may be used, but if I can get any input into that, I would love to do that. As a fan, I want us to have good-looking uniforms and logos that you’d actually want to rock and look good and you’d wear in different states and different areas of the U.S.”
Many Wizards fans share Larson’s opinion. They want a rebrand with new primary uniforms, a new logo and, perhaps, even a new name. For the first time since the backcourt tandem of John Wall and Bradley Beal powered Washington to the Eastern Conference semifinals, the franchise has hope, with a young nucleus headed by reigning No. 1 pick AJ Dybantsa and supplemented by four-time All-Star Trae Young and 10-time All-Star Anthony Davis. The argument goes like this: A long-awaited new era for Wizards basketball should include a novel, distinctive look.
“Fans want that fresh new look, and they want something that is a little more bolder and a little more modern,” said Lee Newman, who operates a Wizards fan account on X and monitors trends within the fanbase.
The fan push for a rebrand is well known to executives within Monumental Sports & Entertainment (MSE), the company that owns and operates the Wizards, the WNBA’s Washington Mystics, the NHL’s Washington Capitals, the G League’s Capital City Go-Go, the NBA 2K League’s Wizards District Gaming and Monumental Sports Network.
MSE president of business operations and chief commercial officer Jim Van Stone, MSE chief marketing officer Hunter Lochmann and their colleagues have learned about fans’ hopes for a rebrand through customer surveys, social media feedback and occasional conversations at games. Van Stone and Lochmann, in an interview with The Athletic, said they are open to new approaches that would go beyond the annual unveiling of new alternate jerseys for the league’s 30 teams.

Current PA announcer at Cap One
What happened to our old PA announcer at Cap One? I miss the old guy that did JOHNNNN WALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL. The new guy does not sound nearly as hype as the previous. Not sure why that change was made.
Has anyone else thought about this?

A lot of turnovers
Really appreciate the guys especially Trae who’s being picked up at full court the whole game. Always looking to feed the youngins and sharpening that chemistry. There’s gonna be a lot of growing pains for sure but it’s nice to see he cares way more about getting the guys going

Preseason Game Thread: Brooklyn Nets (2-0) at the Washington Wizards (2-0). 7:00pm
Per Greg Finberg: Washington will play its starters — minus Anthony Davis, who has a scheduled rest day — to build endurance as opening night nears.
Khris Middleton (ramp-up), Tristan Vukcevic (hip impingement) and Jamir Watkins (ACL tear) remain out.

Unique Feeling this October
As I'm sure many of you are, I am a diehard Wizards & Commanders fan. After yesterday's absolute debacle / embarrassment / catastrophe, it has me wondering how much energy I should put in to the rest of the NFL season and hopes for a return to the miracle of 2024. Normally, the Wizards would give me absolutely nothing to look forward to but this time around, I literally moved on almost immediately after the Giants game to say, hey only 10 days to go till our season opener! Times are changing in DC - we're going to really enjoy watching a competitive / athletic / aesthetically-pleasing brand of basketball for the first time in a while. Cannot wait for 10/21!

Promotional Nights
Leading this off with I'm excited for these season. The boys are looking great! Looking forward to some cozy nights in the wizard bed!
Okay I'm all for the promotional nights highlighting area colleges, different religious groups, and demographics of the DMV. My gripe is how the cultures of the players aren't represented in promotional nights. I took a look at the promotional schedule and we have so deep cuts of different countries we have promotional nights from. Not sure if these promotional nights are due to area groups sponsoring these nights. But definitely think the culture of the team should be represented.
There is an African Heritage night and Caribbean Heritage Night. We have diverse cultures on the team from Africa and The Caribbean. Okpara being Nigerian , Ayton being Bahamian, Aj being Jamaican/Congolese, Bilal from France but by way of Mali. Think back to the days of Polish night and having Gortat feeling and being represented.
Idk I highkey feel some type of way by the culture of the players being overlooked.

Preseason Games
Is there anywhere I can watch preseason games I missed? My work schedule is a little all over the place so I haven't been able to catch them live .

Is fantasy basketball a good time?
(mods delete if not allowed, just trying to ask a question in a place I trust)
I'm curious because fantasy football sort of ruined the football watching experience for me. I hated that I was rooting for one specific guy on each team. But with basketball there are so many games and players it seems like it could dilute that effect a lot.
I like basketball a lot more than football and I don't want to only pay attention to "did Rui Hachimura hit four 3's last night" (even though I do that already, bad example). But it also seems like it could be a fun way to stay involved during the mid season slump or discover new players.
Just curious for folks' takes or experience. Thanks in advance!

How many PPG for AJ Dybantsa this season?
Curious what people think after seeing him in action. Looks like the potential for elite scoring is there but there’s also a lot of mouths to feed on this team.

I can’t believe it
I just still can’t believe that we’re about to have a playoff caliber team now after years of being at the bottom of the east we’re finally looking better and as a Washington Native I can’t tell you all how excited I am #GoWiz

[Smith] Not many teams are going to have one big make a skip pass to the other big for an open corner three like this. The Wizards had a lot of nice sequences of passing between frontcourt players in this one from Anthony Davis, AJ Dybantsa and Alex Sarr.

I really wish MPJ was on our team.
Seeing the game today, MPJ was just taking fuck you jumpers and making all of them. He went for quite cheap on the market for cam johnson and a nothing pick. Could we have taken him for that cheap price or was the salary too much of an issue?
