Happy Sunday, everybody! It's Josh Robbins here. With the Wizards' season opener three days away, I have a fun article for you: Is the team ready for takeoff? Is the franchise even taking the right approach to the year ahead? I offer 15 thoughts, observations and opinions. The piece is free to read in u/TheAthleticNBA. I see people are disappointed in Trae's performance in the pre-season finale against The Pelicans. As a Hawks fan for 30 years and a season ticket holder going on 6 years i want to shed some light on who Trae Young is and isn't.

1) Trae is a career 43% FG shooter...CAREER! He only shot over 45% once. In 468 games He shot over 50% in only 136 of them.

• Trae Young young was never great at beating guards and wings off the dribble. He doesn't have a James Harden or Kyrie Irving handle.

•How does Trae score? Manipulation. He scores off screens(or the threat of one), pick n rolls, cross over three , threes off a offensive rebound and freethrows. His game isn't based on burst or iso. He isn't good enough scorer to be #1.

Overall Trae will be fine but the days of him scoring 25 a night is over. New roll. If he is Fred Vanvleet with 3 more assists you guys will be OK.

Side Note: I think trading Anthony Davis is ideal. Playing pick and role with Trae AND having AD iso with slow down opportunities for others.

P.S. You have no idea how hard it was to get a photo of bottom left. Had to go back and watch the end of a loss to the Sixers on March 12, 2023 to find the 5 minutes of one game that he played. Listened to Chris Miller and Drew Gooden on the game broadcast talk about how Johnny Davis is starting to turn a corner. We’ve come so far.
