This is what consistency looks like. Love to see it.

Soo… anyone out there still thinks he shouldn’t start?

A lot of people on this sub were making that argument and it genuinely confused me

I think people were stuck on him being a forward that they couldn't imagine him starting at guard

Although I've been saying Ky at the 2 all summer long, as it's clear 2 wings and 2 bigs is the best we can put out... And I'm also a massive Ky fan in general... It's also just an indictment on the quality of our guards right now. I like what I think Tre will become but him starting next you Trae is obviously not an option no matter how fun they look together.

Dunno about others or how you were confused, but Bilal starting has its advantages and disadvantages just like starting Kyshawn does. I like both players so I'm fine with either, I'm just very wary of Trae's liabilities. Very wary. I think that's why Trae was gambling for steals a lot the last game. If his man gets the ball, they've often got him dead to rights. Bilal can cover some of that up. Kyshawn is going to get worn out trying to play defense and it'll affect his scoring and his play in general. But like I told the other poster, I think they've chosen the starting lineup and they should stick with him in it.

Bilal starting on an NBA team trying to win games, should not even be a thought.

We’re already spacing challenged and he’s one of the worst offensive players in the league. If anything I’d start Champagnie before Bilal

He was the most consistent, but AD looked like the best player. Defense struggled against Brooklyn without AD and he slept walk to 14 and 11 with 3 stocks last night. I love Ky, and he’s probably still underrated by some of the fanbase

u/Humble_Specialist901 10h ago

Maybe defensively, but overall AD wasn’t as good in the preseason. He was terrible in ISO and was pretty much turnover-prone and wasn’t efficient.

This is essentially a contract season for AD. He gains nothing by playing preseason games like they matter. Plus with his injury history if he gets injured in a meaningless preseason game, that could very well cost him tens of millions of dollars. He slept walk through the preseason and still got his on offense.

Ky, AJ and Sarr gunna be our big 3 in a couple years

-14

u/Humble_Specialist901 10h ago

Sarr still has a lot of things to work on to be grouped in the same conversation as AJ and Kyshawn.

15

u/Cheeba_Addict Wizards 10h ago

? Sarr is arguably the best player out of the 3 currently.

1

u/dgvhjiiuyttrrffcvbjj 10h ago

that is not true at all. he has barely any offense and is a terrible rebounder for a "center". AJ and Kyshawn are way ahead of him.

6

u/Cheeba_Addict Wizards 10h ago

And ky averaging 15 2 and 3 leap frogs him ahead? Stop.

1

u/dgvhjiiuyttrrffcvbjj 10h ago edited 9h ago

did you even watch the games?

Kyshawn literally scored the most total points AND points per 36 minutes of anyone who played more than 4 total minutes. On 84.6 TS%, and over 4 stocks per 36. what more do you fucking want?

8

u/Cheeba_Addict Wizards 9h ago

Bro it’s preseason, and only 3 games of it. Relax

-1

u/dgvhjiiuyttrrffcvbjj 9h ago edited 9h ago

you were disparaging his stats, so I explained why you are wrong. Now that you realize they prove exactly the opposite of what you think they're apparently meaningless lol.

Also it's 4 games, but I guess I shouldn't expect you to count properly.

-2

u/Humble_Specialist901 10h ago

In terms of what makes him the best of the 3? He’s got good potential, but still very raw as a player.

6

u/Cheeba_Addict Wizards 10h ago

He averaged 2 blocks a game last year and is actually elite on defense already. There’s nothing ky does that clearly separates him from what sarr has already shown

0

u/ChickenWingerrr48 10h ago

Sarr’s still one of the worst offensive bigs in the nba

8

u/Cheeba_Addict Wizards 10h ago

And yet he still averaged mod points the kyshawn while shooting better. Ky is not clearly better than sarr

1

u/Humble_Specialist901 10h ago

Because he took more shot attempts than Kyshawn, and was more inefficient.

6

u/Cheeba_Addict Wizards 10h ago

48% from the field for sarr vs 43 from ky. Starting to think you don’t know what you’re talking about

3

u/Humble_Specialist901 9h ago

Using just fg% percentage is not a complete measurement of efficiency. You should be using eFG% or TS% to measure efficiency, which Kyshawn was higher than Sarr. Sarr had a 52% eFG% and 53% ts% which is terribly inefficient for a big.

u/ChickenWingerrr48 9h ago

He’s a big man of course he should have a better FG% than Ky lmfao, doesn’t change the fact that he literally still had a lower TS% bc he doesn’t get to the rim or the FT line and can’t shoot well from 3. Relative to position Sarr is literally 9th percentile in 2P efficiency, Kyshawn isn’t that horrendous and has seemed to made strides in his 2P scoring this season across the past 4 preseason games. Offensively, relative to their positions, they’re not comparable.

That you Alex?

3

..you are in a wizards subreddit

-1

u/dgvhjiiuyttrrffcvbjj 10h ago

Everything kyshawn has done in preseasaon is lightyears ahead of Sarr.

1

u/Cheeba_Addict Wizards 10h ago

15 2 and 3?

1

u/dgvhjiiuyttrrffcvbjj 9h ago

now look up what sarr averaged. I'll wait.

5

u/Cheeba_Addict Wizards 9h ago

Keep waiting because I don’t care about the preseason averages of our starting center coming off injury

3

u/dgvhjiiuyttrrffcvbjj 9h ago edited 8h ago

Not sure why you're getting downvoted but you're absolutely right. Kyshawn and AJ have excellent foundations to be productive starting wings in the NBA. On the other hand to be a starting PF/C Sarr has to drastically improve at least one of rebounding, 3p%, or finishing around the rim.

1

u/Humble_Specialist901 8h ago

Sarr overall finishes fine at the rim, but is contact-averse, which is why he settles for fades and why his efficiency is terrible for a big. Long-term, he should be a center if he can just stop playing soft and rebound better. I don’t see him being a power forward. He would have to drastically improve his 3-point shooting in volume, which I don’t see him doing—maybe on minimal attempts, but not enough to be a power forward. If he continues to be less physical and doesn't rebound, then there’s no way he can be a future piece for this team.

1

u/dgvhjiiuyttrrffcvbjj 1h ago edited 1h ago

He's just not close to being a center now. I see him turning out more like a budget version of Chet or JJJ who only work next to another big who can do Center things.

1

u/violagoyf 10h ago

AJ still has a lot to prove, too. Kyshawn is really the only one of the three who has "arrived."

He's also older. Go figure.

2

u/Formal-Direction6615 8h ago

🫡Not what I saw last guards hunted to get him and then ran right pass Ky for a lay, dunk or weak side lob. He got cooked on the perimeter. He is a slow footed Wing. His defense is best suited in the Block and rim.

2

u/Different_Chain5474 10h ago

Why was the starting sg spot even a debate

11

u/Electric_jungle 9h ago

It never truly was. The Bilal argument relied on him becoming someone he isn't yet, where George was already on his way.

1

u/Plenty_Flatworm7627 John Wall (Jamir Watkins truther) 2h ago

The year is 2031. Kyshawn is on his 3rd all-NBA season and 2nd all-defense season. Bilal is on his second contract in the Euroleague. r/washingtonwizards fans are still arguing over who should start.

2

u/z3mcs FEARNESS 8h ago

The Bilal argument relied on him becoming someone he isn't yet

I'm completely fine with Kyshawn starting, but this isn't true. At least not from what I saw. I don't know what other people were arguing but I thought they'd go with Bilal because between AD, Sarr, Trae and AJ, that's plenty of shots that you want them to get up. You want Trae taking 3 shots a quarter. You want AD taking 3 shots a quarter. You want Sarr to get touches and shots. You DEFinitely want AJ getting shots up. So Bilal not being the best on offense was fine because his whole purpose would be to guard Shai. To guard Brunson. To guard Luka, Steph, Cade, Maxey. It takes a ton of energy to guard those guys. And Kyshawn is going to struggle at it and get into foul trouble and get tired. He can definitely get better as the season goes on and I love the kid so I'm not mad at it. But anybody saying there was no case to have Bilal start, to me, doesn't understand the plusses and minuses. I'd rather have Kyshawn bringing his points off the bench and giving us a boost there, while Bilal hopefully causes the best player on the other team to get off to a terrible start.

But it's all about options, and this is what they're going with. Kyshawn's looking about how I thought he would, if not a little better, but he struggled vs Brunson. Cade didn't play. The Pels don't have any all star level guards, and the Nets are....the Nets. Demin and Fears aint done nothin yet.

So for these opening games, Ky will probably be on Herro, Kawhi, Caleb??, Brandon Miller, James Harden, Franz Wagner. Lets see how he does. Though regardless of how he does, I want them to stick with Kyshawn and keep the starting lineup the same and let them figure it out even if it takes the whole season.

3

u/Electric_jungle 7h ago

Options is right, I'm not trying to suggest there aren't matchup plays that exist. But no there's not plenty of shooting without Ky, someone has to make 3s in the modern NBA. And struggling to defend Brunson or Cade is something every other team in the NBA can relate to. I hope Bilal turns into the player we want him to be, but my statement is that it was obvious who got the start. And it was.

1

u/Rafael_Doge-Schmutz 6h ago

the ideal scenario would've been if Bilal had turned a corner in at least his processing speed and shooting, because he's the only guy with the physical tools to be a good (if not great) point-of-attack defender. Ky doesn't have the foot speed for it, and having his creation coming off the bench would be such a luxury against opposing teams' second units.

but ultimately... yeah he was probably always gonna be the guy. and it's obviously not like he's a dud on the defensive end either. and for now I'd argue he's the 3rd best player on the team anyway, though I wouldn't argue against Sarr or AJ

2

u/Hagdogrobinwood 10h ago

It’s crazy we have been saying that since he was drafted.
